Halloween Festivities
Like many other members of HDC, I am a huge fan of Halloween, the one holiday that celebrates the dark side of human nature.
It has become a tradition at HDC, to have a thread each year dedicated to our Halloween activities, so post away, friends! What are your plans for this year, what costumes are you creating, how are you decorating, and what links and resources do you have to get us in the mood? I'm not doing a broadcast this year, but I did write a blog featuring some great indie Halloween bands over at the Crappy Indie Music Blog. Feel free to check it out: http://crappyindiemusic.blogspot.com...bands-for.html |
And here's this year's edition of fortunato's fabulous Halloween podcast. Great job, as always, Jordan!

Usually we answer the door for a few hours then head out for coffee and I'll read whatever horror book I selected for the season. This year I'm finally getting around to DRACULA. Started it yesterday after finishing Dashiell Hammett's great anthology of horror, CREEPS BY NIGHT (highly recommended) and so far I'm enjoying it immensely. Stoker's got this slowly creepy thing down pretty good.

Usually my halloween involves talking a few friends into watching a bunch of horror movies and trying to select movies they wont find too boring or 'gay'.... I'm trying to find a local cinema showing some classic horror flicks, but I'm drawing a blank. Halloween just isnt a big deal over here, rarely get trick or treater's and usually when you do its a bunch of lads in their mid teens with their hoods pulled over their heads trying to scam a bit of spare change.
Regardless of what I end up doing this halloween, this time of year is always my favouirte time. Already started slowly building up the amount of movies I make time for during the week and digging out crates of dvd's that 'need' watching over the next few months. Listening to fortunato's podcast right now too, good stuff. |
I listened to one of Jordan's podcast yesterday at work....very good...very "NEW" sounding ;)
This is the first year in a long time that we aren't having a party.....but we still will have fun. watching movies....listening to Halloween tunes....nice time of year. although I'm not looking forward to winter.....hate that shit |
Horror, 19-20 of 24 hours a day. Same as the rest of the year, really.
|
Hey everybody, thanks for digging the podcast! I'll have another episode up in a week or two.
I'm onto horror movies only this month, as always. Probably going to watch something tonight and enjoy a seasonal brew or two. Or three. I always love getting up early on Sundays in October and going to the apple orchard. Might do that tomorrow. |
moving house.yipeee.but the difference is i will own this house so i could carve a massive "happy fuckin halloween" with a pentagram on the wall and no real estate agent can give me shit.
as michael myers said though, its pretty much halloween all year round for me anyway.i read horror watch horror, most music i listen to is horror themed, and in this part of the world its hardly celebrated anyway.maybe a few little kids trick or treatin, but ya wont see any of them where im movin |
If you're having a party, you might want to order a lot of these:

For a few years my brother had been creating a haunted attraction on his yard for Halloween night and had even turned it into a walk through. He hasn't done it in a couple years but finally this year he's doing it again, this time with a zombie apocalypse theme. I'll be helping him build it and then i will be participating in it as a zombie.
I'll also be attending The Headless Horseman Haunted Hayride attraction next Sunday. |
I'm hoping my night will consist of: sex, booze, good company, laughter, magick & something witchy!

I'm considering a Halloween tour of the Portland Shanghai Tunnels.
http://www.shanghaitunnels.info/ The tunnels, beneath Downtown Portland, are said to be haunted, and form the backdrop to my neo-Lovecraftian tale "Under the Shanghai Tunnels," under consideration at a small press as we speak. |
Looks like a lot of fun!
I am trying to do whatever seems neat this month. Lots of odd things to choose from. This weekend I think it's the Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt. It's always a very fun party! There's gonna be a THOUSAND ZOMBIES in there! |

... As for me, I've actually been invited to a few Halloween parties and I have a costume ready to go (Steampunk Little Red Riding Hood)... HOWEVER... WE GOT A NEW PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We move in November 1st (well, technically the weekend of October 26th), so pretty much most of my free time and $$ will be devoted to the move. Not exciting in terms of Halloween festivities, but we've been wanting to move for at least 5 years now (but always finding an excuse not to), so this is a big deal. Plus we have a new home to come back to after the wedding. :D Between now and then, though, I've borrowed a few horror short story books from the library (thank you to our Horror Books thread!) and plan on watching Trick 'r Treat on the big day. Here are the books beside my bedside right now:
'Been reminding myself what a great friggin writer King is. |
Congrats on the new place!! I've been invited to a Halloween party, too! First time in God knows how long! Still looking for a costume.....
|
Thanks!! We're so psyched!!
Don't forget to post costume pics. |
Im having a jeggings and winkle pickers themed party as they are the work of Beelzebub himself !.Most of my mates are beardy, baldy, beer bellied men so im looking forward to seeing them squeeze into lycra for the evening.
We shall mostly be eating nibbles of a spooky theme and drinking copious amounts of Hob goblin whilst watching a selection of gore films too!. Ooh and I may carve a pumpkin if the mood takes me! |

This year I am taking part in the historic Cabildo's ( here in New Orleans) Ghostly Galavant. My character will be a governor of French Louisiana Marquis de Vaudrieul. He was governor from 1743 - 1753 and brought much of the elegance of the Court of Versailles to Louisiana and New Orleans. I will be stationed in one of the courtyards here in the French Quarter for one day from 10AM to 3 PM and will have to do my speal to about 10 tours.
My first time and am excited about it. Will be dressed in my French aristocrat costume with white face, red lips and beauty mark! Here is a picture of my outfit! http://imageshack.us/a/img707/8666/t...rencharist.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us I plan to wear my green aristocrat costume to the Friday night party. http://imageshack.us/a/img202/8666/t...rencharist.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us THE DUCHESS |
