Christmas movies

I know that Halloween is the preferred holiday, but I do love me some Christmas movies. What's your favorite? Mine is a tie between "White Christmas" (I watch it every Christmas Eve) and "It's A Wonderful Life".

newb 11-30-2011 08:07 AM

A Christmas Story
Christmas Vacation
Scrooge---with George C Scott
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
Santa's Slay

hammerfan 11-30-2011 08:11 AM

newb, you reminded me of another one: A Christmas Carol (1951 version with Alastair Sim)

I also like The Holiday with Jude Law and Kate Winslet. Yeah, I know, it's a sappy love story, but for some reason I really like it.

Do you know I've never seen A Christmas Story?!

TheWickerFan 11-30-2011 10:00 AM

I'll repeat what others have mentioned, A Christmas Story is a must see!! Darren McGavin is wonderful as the father.

I've always been fond of:

A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim
Miracle On 34th Street (the original)
March Of The Wooden Soldiers (with Laurel and Hardy)

and the horror:

Black Christmas
Gremlins
And All Through The House (Tales From The Crypt)

neverending 11-30-2011 10:09 AM

My favorite version of A Christmas Carol has always been the Mr. Magoo one... yes, I'm serious...

Not a movie, but Pee Wee's Christmas Special is... well... special.

ZombieDrone 11-30-2011 11:43 AM

Muppets Christmas Carol
Die Hard
Black Christmas
Possibly Silent Night, Deadly Night.

Oh yeah, I always watch that.

Charlie Brown Christmas, too, of course.

And some of the Rankin/Bass specials, like Rudolph and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

fortunato 11-30-2011 12:01 PM

Oh, and I do still watch The Nightmare Before Christmas every year, too.

My family has a tradition of watching It's A Wonderful Life every Christmas Eve. I also enjoy watching A Muppet's Christmas Carol.

This year i'm also doing a christmas horror movie marathon including these movies:

Silent Night, Deadly Night 1 - 5
Christmas Evil
Jack Frost
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
Black Christmas
Gremlins

If anyone else has some Christmas related horror movies, let me know.

Doesn't really sound like a christmas horror movie from its description but i'll take your word for it.

Elvis_Christ 11-30-2011 04:53 PM

Think I saw A Christmas Story on TV as kid... not sure but it sounds familiar.

Just got Christmas Evil in the mail today from Netflix. I'll probably watch it tomorrow. I've never seen it before.

A great stocking stuffer indeed! Wish I could purchase a copy!

crabapple 12-12-2011 06:51 AM

Home Alone, and Die Hard...and the Rankin Bass Rudolph TV special. And A Charlie Brown Christmas. You gotta have, you know, a variety.

And you gotta have something hot to drink like hot cocoa, or warm apple cider! ooooo yeah

hammerfan 12-24-2011 04:49 PM

Ok guys, I just watched A Christmas Story - you're right, it's awesome. Now I'm watching White Christmas.

ChronoGrl 12-24-2011 04:59 PM

Yay! Glad you finally saw it! :)

Just watched Elf (which makes me so happy) and now I'm watching Scgrooge with Alastair Sim.

Aaaahhhh, my favorite version!! Alistair Sim is brilliant!!

cheebacheeba 12-24-2011 07:28 PM

Still not sure what it was, but I recall a Christmas movie perhaps made in the 90's (a lot of people think I'm talking about "Elf" though I am not, this was somewhat before Elf), that had a plotline of Santas sleigh crash landing in a large park in a city, and the main kid in the film having to fix it or some such...
Nothing really outstanding about it, I've just been wondering.

I'll be *not* watching Christmas films today. Just started "falling skies" and "It's always sunny in Philadelphia", might catch a few more of those between feedings, and perhaps I'll start Game of Thrones as well.

ChronoGrl 12-24-2011 08:24 PM

Is it Ernest Saves Christmas? :D

cheebacheeba 12-24-2011 08:31 PM

Not sure, will have to look into that.
The only memories of ANY Ernest movies are pretty faint.
