Support Me - Fight Cancer - SAVE THE TATAS

My impulsive move for the week: I'll be participating in a 5K walk on Tuesday to FIGHT CANCER. :D

My company has organized a "CURE-A-THON" which includes a 5K run/walk as well as Swim Clinics.

No pressure, but if you could support me with a donation, I would greatly appreciate it.

http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/sit...nal&fr_id=1321

All proceeds go to Swim Across America.

Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming - related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping to find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.

Can't afford a donation? No worries! Just cheer me on! Spread awareness by wearing pink, sporting a pink ribbon, and spreading the word.

Why am I so passionate about this cause? I'm sure that most everyone on this forum has been impacted by cancer in one way or another. When my father was in his 20s, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease, a cancer of lymph tissue found in the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone marrow, and other sites. The treatment at the time for that type of cancer was radiation, which did help... However, 30 years later, as a result of the radiation, my father developed tumors in his lungs and passed away in 2002. While we are grateful that the radiation treatment gave him 30+ wonderful years of life (plus a wonderful daughter!), we think about him every year, both on his Birthday (February 4th), and the anniversary of his death (November 8th). On Tuesday, I will be walking (wearing a pink Wonder Woman shirt!) and thinking of my father, wishing that he could see what a wonderful woman I've turned out to be. ;)

On Tuesday I will also be thinking of my friend Stephanie. I graduated from high school with Stephanie (in 2000) and last year she was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. While she is still alive and is currently in treatment, I just found out this week that this current wave of chemotherapy will be her last wave of chemotherapy - While the doctors are astounded at how long she has survived, they do not see hope in extending the treatment any further. I will be walking and thinking about Stephanie on Tuesday and what a wonderfully strong woman she is.

I don't mean to be a downer, but this is something that I feel really passionate about - Wish me luck and cheer me on!

Very cool - I'm actually impressed at how much my company is getting into this - We'll be walking/running around corporate headquarters and then they've organized a BBQ and silent auction to raise funds.

My friends and family (and a very kind anonymous donor) have already donated $160! I'm really touched. :D

Very cool....

Just wondering - is there a way to use paypal to donate?

Unfortunately, I don't think so - Just Debit/Credit Card and Check.

Of course, if you're interested, you could transfer the funds to my PayPal account and I could make the donation in your name with my Debit Card.

FYI - No pressure. :)

Ferox13 10-09-2011 12:57 PM

Naw - I'll sort out the CC thing...

No problem.

ChronoGrl 10-10-2011 06:18 AM

Thanks!!

The EMC Cure-a-thon is just a day away! I've raised $270 so far and just sent an email out to my coworkers. :D

Amanda, I can't contribute monetarily, but I offer you my wholehearted support and encouragement! A very dear friend of mine passed away from cancer yesterday....I'm still crying rivers. She was such a special lady.

Last Saturday my sons middle school football team all wore pink socks for the game. I thought it was pretty cool they were supporting.

My mom is battling lung cancer right now. Going thru Chemo today. Too say the least, it's a nightmare. Worse then any horror movie.

I don't have enough money but I support you and anyone that's looking for a solution to this curse.

Wow, Kasper, I'm so so sorry - Chemo is tough. I bet she is a strong, powerful woman, though - This may sound cheesy, but a positive attitude makes a HUGE difference - Be there and give her a huge hug. She'll be in my thoughts.

ChronoGrl 10-10-2011 01:08 PM

Pink Wonder Woman t-shirt - Check.

:D

You know what? I just realized today that this is the most exercise on my feet since I broke my ankle back in May.

Fuck sorry to hear that man. I wish her all the best. My mum beat breast cancer about four years back so I hope your mother gets through hers. Chemo sucks it was hard seeing the effects but as fucked as it is try and stay positive.
