Serious question. I'm about to beat the original Pokemon Red (again) and I didn't end up liking the pokemon I took this time. Any other nerds want to give a 2 cents?

One of the biggest fads of the mid/late 90's. If not THE biggest fad for a couple age groups.

My 12 year old son was into it a few years back(the cartoon) but I never paid it any attention. I just can't get into the cartoons they make these days. What the hell happened to G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and He-Man? Even the Transformers cartoon a few years back seemed terrible to me, the whole anime thing just doesn't capture my interest.

The ORIGINAL Pokemon cartoon was great. It was pretty funny and went along with the game, without being TOO anime. I've seen bits and pieces of the newer incarnations of the cartoon and it's just trash. Never played any of the other games besides the original GBA one.

I used to have the cards too. Those were a big deal. Rayne's daughter (my age) still has hers in a binder.

I hated Pokemon when it came out. It's even more sad nowadays.

I met some girls a few months back who absolutely loved Pokemon. They weren't nerds or anything which made it weird, but yeah, they convinced me to go back and watch it on the net. The first series is actually not terrible and I feel I can appreciate it more now I can follow the story arc. At 5/6 it was a lot harder to see a coherent story instead of "YAY BLASTOISE!"

Watching the anime (original run) as an anime and not a massive fandom event like it was over in America, it actually is/was a really decent show. Though like FC said it started to lose its focus later on. Also some of the manga got pretty edgy.
