Running Joke
 

Anybody familiar with the U.K. satire magazine Private Eye? They have one of the greatest running jokes going. An embarrassing photo was taken of Andrew Neill roughly 20 years ago, and since then people have written into the magazine with increasingly more elaborate excuses to print this picture again.

It's a crazy idea, but I thought about possibly getting a running joke going. I don't know what would be the perfect embarrassing or hilarious horror-related picture to put up, but if it's amusing enough all people would have to do is come up with an excuse in any thread to print the picture again (ie: Might you have a photo illustrating the disadvantages of camping in the woods?)

Fucking toy wasn't in my urban dictionary. I did a Google search and all I discovered was that there is a distinct way that toys fuck. I guess that makes it being a good or bad thing up to your personal taste.

Actually, these pictures are a perfect example. So at any time on any thread someone could write in an elaborate excuse to print the Ernie and Bert picture for example.

Say something like: I feel male bonding has become a thing of the past, and it disturbs me. Might you have a photo illustrating some strong male bonding? (it works better with some sort of segueway).

When someone creates a count for the explicit purpose of creating a new thread and asking us, "WUT MOVIE M I THINKING OF I SAW IT IN THE 80S AND HERE IZ A DESCRIPSHUN WUT IS THE MOVIE K THX BAI!"

We respond: The Gate.

I see. Sounds like fun.

It's fairly amusing, especially since I FINALLY saw The Gate this year and I thought it was awesome. I couldn't even express my joy when I saw it On Demand - Of course The Gate made me think of the HDCers here.

Not sure how it started, but it's the big "inside joke" around here.

These things are generally organic - I don't know if one can "plan" on a running joke. :p

Yeah, it is hard to plan a running joke; it just happens over time.
