Friday the 13th - Part V: A New Beginning

< SPOILERS AHEAD > Okay, can somebody explain this movie to me? I don't get it. Like, it ended and I was like, "WTF?" Is Jason even actually IN it? Cause like. . .okay, so the DAD of the crazy youth who gets hacked up by the woodpile is supposedly the killer, but then. . .at the end. . .the non-Corey Feldman Corey Feldman charater suddenly has the Jason garb? I mean, to be honest, this is kind of a b.s. movie if in fact Jason isn't even in it. But maybe I missed something. I was really tired when I watched it. Anyway, I'm revisiting the entire franchise, and so far this is the worst one -- not even THE FINAL CHAPTER is as bad.

Love, peace, and chainsaws!

_____V_____ 10-01-2006 09:50 AM

This one sucked big donkey balls. It was so corny that corny lost its meaning when associated with it. Maybe it was insipired by Halloween III who knows...

The only ones I liked in the series were the one before and the one after, thats part IV: Final Chapter and part VI: Jason Lives, thats excluding the original and Freddy vs Jason of course.

Burning in Hell 10-01-2006 03:16 PM

No, you haven't missed anything, this one really was only about someone disusing himself as Jason. Probably the worst of the series before the whole VII-X disgrace...

hello,danny 10-01-2006 09:29 PM

Okay, but what about the VERY end (< SPOILER ALERT >) when non-Corey Feldman Corey Feldman is in that room and opens that drawer and finds Jason garb and then puts said costume on? Like, what was that about?

_____V_____ 10-01-2006 09:41 PM

That was to show that Corey will become the next Jason in part VI, if its made, and that Jason's spirit has entered his body or something.

Blah it sucked...THE worst part of the entire series IMO.

Friday the 13th 4 is a great flick. Part 5 is not great but it's still good.

Yah, four kicks ass.

I will be the first to admit these films dont stand the test of time the way that horror films such as TCM, Halloween, etc. do. The acting is pretty terrible, and they all really have a "dated" vibe(if that makes sense). History plays a role in making these films even "cheesier" than they had to be. They made too many, and most of them were absolutely unnecessary(part V, Part VII, part VIII, hell, and Jason X). So in retrospect, when watching these films, any believability has been thrown completely out the window, because you know he pretty much never really dies, and the filmmakers dont even really care at that point about keeping the story straight(the Halloween franchise suffered from this after IV as well).

I actually just watched parts II and III on youtube about a week ago, and it was not the same experience as it was when I had watched them years ago.

Back in the 80's-90's, if you asked me my favorites, I would have said II, III, VI, and probably VIII.

Now, I dont really have a favorite in this series, because it wore out its welcome in such a way that it pretty much ruined the franchise, and the "fondness" people used to have for it.

roshiq 10-10-2006 12:48 AM

"choice" varies .....as some of my friends like very much a movie named HIGH TENTION (:p ) but to me that movie totally sucked!!( )

In F13 series, I like the 2nd and 6th part along with the 1st one. I also enjoyed Freddy vs Jason a lot.

tic 10-10-2006 02:16 AM

I have to agree and say when i first saw friday the 13th (part 1) i thought it was one of the funniest! films i had ever seen.

My personal faves are between part 4 "The final Chapter" or part 6 "Jason Lives":

Part 4 becuase this was the first one i actually went to see at the cinema and part 6 as there is a very dry wit running through the film.

Part 3 (originally in 3D) was ok as it introduced the now iconic hockey mask.

Part 8 (Jason takes Manhattan) or at least he does for about 20 minutes was ok until the ending, which makes Part 9 (Jason goes to Hell) implausable, (however i read that the reason for part 9 and in particular the ending was the possibility of a cross-over for Freddy vs Jason) Part 10 Jason X came about because New Line Cinema (the owners of Freddy) did not have the rights to Friday the 13th, so was a simple fill in until the ownership was made.

Burning in Hell 10-10-2006 06:55 AM

Yes, it is true that these have aged very poorly. I used to love the first ones nearly as much as the first two Halloween when I was younger, but I watched a few of them lately, and the Halloween movies are miles above...

The_Return 10-10-2006 07:36 AM

Ive only seen the first two.

Enjoyed #1 quite a bit; even though Im not usually a fan of slasher movies, I thought it was pretty fun.

As for Part 2...Ug. Typical, boring slasher crap. Half decent near the end (in Jason's "lair") but otherwise, it's pretty forgettable.

I do plan to buy the boxset to check out the rest though, just because it's so damn cheap.

SKOOFx 10-10-2006 10:03 AM

I will never understand how MANY people beleive that part 6 is a great edition to the series.

I should seriously sit down and watch it again. In my opinion, it was the WORST.

I personally find 3 5 and 8 to be my favorites.

Everyone bashes 5, but it is seriously the most fun. Its ridiculous, silly, packed with good kills, lots of nudity..etc etc. Everything you would want when sitting down with a few freinds for a good 80's movie time.

Roderick Usher 10-10-2006 10:31 AM

Are any of them any good?

No.

The Flayed One 10-10-2006 10:38 AM

Personally, I enjoy all of them. I like cheese, and Jason is great mindless cheese. The first one is a classic, and it may not stand the test of time as well as others, but I still find it enjoyable & nostalgic.

To each his own, as always.

JP500 10-10-2006 11:21 AM

I like the first few.

urgeok 10-10-2006 11:44 AM

i'm not a fan of slasher flicks from the 80's as a rule - and thats largely because of Fri 13, and the later halloween sequels.

the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over again.

even in a horror film i wouldnt mind something making sense once in a while.

Yikes, I cant get it for $50.

Still not incredibly cheap or anything, but pretty good for 8 movies.

alkytrio666 10-10-2006 02:09 PM

1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 are all very fun. I love those five films.

The rest, blah...

Fun to watch and make fun of, I guess...

(Friday the 13th is coming up, I plan on watching the above on that day)

crippler666 10-10-2006 06:00 PM

For me they done the job, many films borrow from the Friday the 13th series and are alot worse in many cases.

I find them entertaining now and not so much the horror element any more.

Yes they did become samey, but most movies run to a formula now anyway, start to watch a movie and you know who lives and who dies right from the get go. But I do find it interesting how many people have grown to dislike the movies

cactus 10-10-2006 06:45 PM

I agree...I like the first 3 now just for the nostalgia and not the horror. It takes me back, they're fun and I'd rather watch them than that piece of dung Fog remake.

Elvis_Christ 10-11-2006 05:18 AM

Parts 1, 2 and The Final Chapter are great.

Savini's work in The Final Chapter is amazing.

Fun series of flicks.

i actually saw part 3 in the theatre - in 3D .. that was kind of fun.

(i have the 3-d poster too come to think of it)

crabapple 10-11-2006 07:01 AM

I liked 1 and 2 because they had naked people;)

I'm going to try to do that to.I just need to rent 1,2,3 because I already own 4,5,6.

paws the great 10-11-2006 02:37 PM

1,2,3,and 4 are great 80's slashers.

Prelude95Si 10-11-2006 02:59 PM

I don't know, I felt like the Friday movies were the same thing one right after the other after #2. I can talk b/c my buddy made me watch all 10 back to back over the course of one week. So we did like 2-4 a day I think.

I will say that I hated #8 & Jason X.

Elvis_Christ 10-11-2006 03:11 PM

Parts 5 and 8 are pretty fucking painfull to sit thru. I enjoyed Jason X because it was a total cheesefest poking fun at the series and David Cronenberg's cameo was great.

Geddy 10-12-2006 01:53 AM

I didn't find 5 to bad.8 Sucked.

illdojo 10-31-2006 01:52 PM

I agree....1 through 5 are sweet. After that they become more comedic.
I love the old lady and her son in pt. 5. My favorite is pt. 3

Just my 2 cents

The_Return 10-31-2006 03:51 PM

I enjoyed #5. Not as good as any of the ones before it, but a shitload better than #6-7.

Agreed that the last scene was total shit, but I really liked that fact that it wasnt actually Jason. Nice little way to end the series...they REALLY should have stopped it there:mad:

I mean, Part #8 was OK, but #6-7 were just overblown cheesy crap. #7 was the better of the two, but as far as Im concerned the world could do without either of 'em.

Part 8 was ok !!! , Jason drowns in toxic waste and miraculously turns into a boy Jason, complete with no disfigurement.!!!! Sorry but once again

Jason Lives : Part 6, In my opinion is defineately better than 7, probably because it doesn't take itself seriously, and that is the problem. New Blood (part 7) reverts to the serious film which doesn't work, the ending for example.

While I agree with you, that there wasn't any need for 6, 7, 8 and 9, you have to blame the audience, if they didn't want to see another Jason, which obviously they did, then there wouldn't have been the sequels, inc Jason X (again doesn't take itself seriously) or Freddy vs Jason.

I also think that many fans of the series thought conned by part 5, they wanted Jason and not an impersonator and the series should have finished with part 4, The Final Chapter - end the series on a high.

Geddy 11-01-2006 07:10 AM

I liked 6 it was my second favourite of the series.

JP500 11-01-2006 11:47 AM

This is my least favorite of 1 thru 6.

yo

hey i didnt like halloween 3 i thought that one was stupid.:D

Disease 11-09-2006 12:20 AM

Firstly, your an idiot, this is about Friday the 13th not Halloween!

I can't believe someone bagged out The Final Chapter, it's the best slasher movie ever. And it had Crispin Glover in it. And then a few people said 7 was better than 8, what was that about?

Anyway on to part 5, I don't realy see what your problem is with it, It was the first Friday the 13th movie I ever saw, and I wanted more and more!

Ginger<3 11-09-2006 04:26 AM

my question about the series still is ......

if he died in the lake he'd be a boy killer monster thing but he's a man so he didn't die but if that's the case why did he live alone all those years instead of going to his mother if he loved her so much?
