New poltergeist

I see hollywood's drought of original movies still continues. With the remake of the 80's classic poltergeist. There will be noone from the original in it. Nor will Spielberg be directing it. they all so say that they will not change anything in the movie, just addd a few more"frights". my Q is..why bother? my suggestion is wait for it to come out on dvd/blu ray. I think going to see these pics at cinemas will only encourage the current trend of remaking movies...
also there will be a prequel to the movie I am legend. my question to that is. why? All the exciting things happens after the virus is unleashed on the world. a prequel. will just be a boring gab feast.

urgeok2 08-25-2008 01:26 PM

speilberg didnt direct the 1st one either

Yes you're right. my apologies. he had a hand in the writing. I just naturally assumed he directed it as well. meh... shows how much attention i show to things.

Hilti88NYC 08-25-2008 04:13 PM

Speilberg was involved I think,I forget how. Well maybe he wasnt at all but rumor was that he directed it or something, yet it says clearly DIRECTED by TOBE HOOPER!!!!!!!!!

Raimi Producing "Poltergeist" Remake

Update: Sam Raimi will Produce Poltergeist, but will Not Direct
News
by Silas Lesnick
April 27, 2012

Following rumors earlier today that he might direct the project, The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that Sam Raimi has, indeed, boarded MGM's upcoming remake of Poltergeist, but is doing so in a producer-only capacity alongide Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee.

The original film was directed by Tobe Hooper and released in 1982 with Steven Spielberg producing and told the story of a malevolent spectral force that tries to take daughter of a Californian family. It spawned two sequels, Poltergeist II: The Other Side in 1986 and Poltergeist III in 1988.

Raimi, who directed The Evil Dead one year before the first Poltergeist was released, is also known today for, among many other films, his Spider-Man trilogy and, most recently, for Drag Me to Hell. He's currently in post-production on Oz the Great and Powerful.

No director is currently attached to Poltergeist, but check back for updates as they become available.

Now they're remaking Poltergeist?! What the fuck?

The Villain 04-29-2012 03:13 PM

This does not need to be remade. Why? Why do they do this?

CannibalHolocaust 04-30-2012 05:20 AM

yea i dont pay much attention to remakes anymore
i havent seen recent ones like a nightmare on elm street
remaking movies that had nothing wrong with them and making them worse doesnt make sense to move, i mean yea youre going to make money from the franchise but youre also killing it so hollywood continues to be jews

crazy raplh 04-30-2012 02:58 PM

maybe do a remake for christine LOL

Gil Kenan has officially begun casting his vision of Poltergeist. He will begin shooting the movie as soon as September in Toronto, Canada.

The new version follows Eric Bowen and his family who, after he loses his job, relocate to a new town to start anew. His daughter, Madison, is abducted, making him truly understand what’s important in life: family. In the new version, Eric’s wife, Amy, can communicate with the dead.

Another interesting new character is Carrigan Burke, a television personality who hosts “Haunted House Cleaners.”” The supernatural doesn’t scare this guy. Dr. Brooke Powell is Carrigan’s ex-wife who is a parapsychologist at a local university. Her team investigates the supernatural events surrounding the disappearance of the Bowen girl.
David Lindsay-Abaire is listed as the main screenwriter although Juliet Snowden and Stiles White has previously worked on it.

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Roy Lee produce.

This is actually a remake I am pretty excited about, and I consider the original as one of my all time favourite movies.

Giganticface 05-21-2013 12:20 PM

I'd be skeptical if Sam Raimi weren't producing, but with him involved I'm looking forward to it.

Damn Heathen 09-03-2014 11:47 PM

Word has it this is neither a remake nor a reimagining, but a SEQUEL. It is rumored to give direct reference to the Freelings in order to set up the investigation of a similar supernatural abduction.

That's an interesting idea... although I'd like to see them re-do the evil tree scene. I know that's a weird thing to focus on, but I happen to be creeped out very badly by that scene in the original, despite the fact that the tree looks as fake as it does, and I was hoping to see it redone and be even more scared ::big grin::

utahman1971 10-17-2014 06:03 PM

I did like this one when I was maybe early teens, but now with remake. I don't think this will my kind of watch. Like I said in other posts, and in this one PG-13 horror I will not watch any more. They aren't scary, and will never be, because they are just light versions of the real horror movies.

Directors are just trying to make extra money, but in reality they are already rich with as many movies that are released all the time. They don't need to worry if they need teenagers for horror. All the good rated R and Unrated horror is dwindling away.

Damn Heathen 02-25-2015 01:54 AM

The trailer is underwhelming. I'm still interested, though.

Amalthea_unicorn 02-25-2015 02:10 AM

Looks worth a watch.

anglewitch 02-25-2015 03:12 AM

NAH! I'm going to stick with the old version.

Jake.Ashworth 02-25-2015 09:22 AM

Dude, climb down from that high horse. Its Sam freaking Raimi. I will see it just for that, aside from the trailer being pretty legit. I support Sam Raimi no matter what he is doing because he is a genius.

Damn Heathen 02-25-2015 12:05 PM

I find it very intriguing that the built-on-a-cemetery conceit is no longer a third-act revelation. It would seem they have found something else to up the ante in the climax. Twist ending?

Jake.Ashworth 02-25-2015 12:22 PM

I don't know the trailer looks like it draws a ton of original plot elements. A huge smile crossed my face when you see the outside of the house and that huge tree outside of the house. Im just curious if they can recreate the face peeling scene with an PG-13 rating.

Damn Heathen 02-25-2015 12:36 PM

Something's up with the father character. And with Sam Rockwell saying it's a kid's movie, that the focus is on the kids, etc...a clear misdirection of the audience, there.

Jake.Ashworth 02-25-2015 01:08 PM

Eh, some could argue the focus was technically always on the kids. The parents play a main role, probably the main role, but the kids were always the center of the story line.

Regardless, all else aside. Sam Raimi.

iiiiiii had a cherry blossom tree that was huge right outside my window growing up.....that and the clown under the bed got me. But yeah, my tree was in the same position as in the movie :)

Jake.Ashworth 02-25-2015 01:12 PM

Fuck that! After I saw the original I didn't climb a tree for years. There are few things that still get me, but things that you don't expect to move is one of them. Everyone expects a randomly placed statue to move, but no body ever anticipates a tree to grab you.

Thinking about it, that is legit, real horror. In that world anything you walk by could be out to get you. That is really scary.

Raegan 02-25-2015 01:13 PM

jut watched trailer, I hate to say this because anytime I get stoked about a horror movie it's a huge let down but it looks pretty damn good-and Raimi being on board is always a plus. Saw that fucking clown ..... damn it

Jake.Ashworth 02-25-2015 01:17 PM

Lol! The clown is well portrayed from what you can see. They have also teased that huge light creature that comes out of the closet. In the trailer you also see a real quick shot of the rope thrown into the closet. It seems like they held pretty tight to the original.

I really dig the way you put that "there are fe things that still get me but the things you don't expect to move is one of them" :)

Yes, looks like they stuck to the original-and I was a hater going in thinking REALLY CAROL ANN TRADE MARK WAS HER BLONDE HAIR but I'm sold and yeah, dad is shady for sure

Damn Heathen 02-25-2015 02:20 PM

This poltergeist apparently uses power tools. Either that or we're looking at an Amityville-like possession situation.

The new clown doll is a step up from the orig. The pool scene has an overhead shot, which should look great in the theater.

NightOfTheLiving_Sam 02-25-2015 05:13 PM

I heard that they'll be doing a remake about this about a year and a half ago and I was pretty disturbed by it cause the original was so great. I'll say this though, I'm not too surprised. I bet they'll remake a lot of 80's movies over again and I'll refuse to watch any of them. I'll stick with the Originals.

Damn Heathen 03-27-2015 03:27 PM

You havent seen It Follows yet. If you had, you'd be talking 'bout the new (and unique) Poltergeist footage in the theater-only trailer. Looks nuts.

anglewitch 03-28-2015 05:47 AM

I can imagine the seen with tree eating the kid is going to be cgi.

Damn Heathen 03-28-2015 01:00 PM

Those expecting the typical Carol Ann will shit themselves when they see the new girl do this: I probably shouldn't spill the beans.

Vig 04-03-2015 05:59 PM

Watched the new trailer which wasn't a new trailer at all. I just have mixed feelings on this one. Sort of reminds me of The Amityville Horror remake a few years ago.

horcrux2007 04-03-2015 06:09 PM

I'm not too sure about it. I'll go see it, of course because I'm trying to see every widely release horror film in theatres this year. It's directed by the guy who did Monster House and produced by Sam Raimi, which gives my a lot of hope. I'm just not expecting fireworks. Hopefully it's alright, though.

I didn't care for that remake, couldn't take him seriously after Waiting

I can never take him seriously because he reminds me of a young Chevy Chase.

Gears-of-Warren 04-03-2015 07:45 PM

This looks really good and could be the next big remake. I have hopes very high for this. Hopefully the father doesn't abuse the possessed girl/boy.
