Tomorrow at 2pm sharp I have my interview for the Veterinary Technician school. I am soooo fucking nervous. This woman, Dr. Blakenship holds my life in her palm. I've already written these four lame ass essays.

I can certainly identify with being nervous over something of this sort, and it's the worst type of nervous. Good luck, I hope all goes well.

Sieze the moment. Do not allow her to have some sort of godlike power over you in your mind. You should be interviewing her to see if this is the school for you... there are other schools and other gatekeepers.

I just hope she doesn't ask me any bullshit questions in the interview.

Me: Well I'm a perfectionist. If anything i try too hard to make things perfect..That and the fact i piss myself alot..

Things that are very important to us tend to make us the most nervous (naturally). But it's rarely the end of the world - there will be other opportunities. Just do your very best, and try to get a good sleep the night before.

Good Luck! Just take deep, slow calming breaths, make sure you're early to your interview and you'll do fine. :)

Also: What made you want to go into Veterinary Technology? I am honestly considering changing my career path to this direction, but would love to hear from someone who has already made the leap. What did you do before this? And have you already gone to college (I'm just wondering how it works if you already have a degree and then want to get into Vet Tech - do you go for the second Bachelor's or do you go for the Associates?) - Sorry to be nosy; these are all questions that I'm asking myself as I'm looking at local Vet Tech programs.

Concerns that I have before completely changing careers:

• Being around sick and dying animals that I can't help (of course this is countered by being around sick animals that I CAN help)
• Crazy hours - What ARE the hours? (then again, it would probably depend on where you work; private practices are more M - F, but emergency care is any time)

Were these concerns that you had? Or are they non-issues? Not trying to pry - this is what's going through my head right now.

An ex co-worker of mine is going to vet school next year. He's a real loud mouth a-hole so it's hard to weed out fact from fiction, but aparently there are alot of options in veteranery care. For instance, my co-worker(27 yrs old) wants to specialize in large animal care so he'll be working with horses and cows on sight at farms and ranches. This would be quite different than a city vet who would work more with household pets. I believe all vets need to know the same basic skills, but that you can then 'major' in a speciality.


It's never too late too follow your dreams yadda yadda yadda, if you aim for the moon, surely you'll land among the bla bla bla.

This has given me new hope! I just might trot down to the funeral home and ask for an internship. Bet they'll let me play with the dead guys!
