Where do you work and how much do you get paid?
Unemployed. I start college in August. I want to find a warehousing job tho so I can make good money, buy horror movies, and get horror tats.
|
I don't and I get £5 a week.
|
I work at an incoming call center, doing basic tech support for a major Canadian cell phone company. It's nothing I'd want to do for the rest of my life or anything, but for the time being it's a pretty decent job.
As for how much I make...lets just say "More than I deserve" :D |
I don't work but have a few entrepreneur things going. I make decent money and am thrifty so I don't really have to worry about money so much right now.

So I am currently going through a third-life crisis and hating my job and was going to start a SERIOUS non-creepy thread asking the same question to my friends and HDC'ers (minus salary requirements because that's just a tacky faux pas) to try to get some professional guidance, advice, and/or inspiration.
Guess you beat me to it. There goes that idea. ... I'm a Product Manager for a software company that designs online poker and casino software (www.everestpoker.com and www.everestcasino.com). Used to be a blast, but now it SUCKS. Fortunately (yet unfortunately) I'm over-paid, so I'm having a HELL of a time trying to find a new job that wouldn't be TOO much of a pay cut. And now I'm going to ask the serious question... What do you guys do? Do you hate it? And have you been in a place where you're ready for a career change but SERIOUSLY worried about a pay cut? |
Right now, I'm a freelance writer and editor waiting for another job to start, so I make only a hundred dollars here and there. It sucks, but for the most part we survive on my girlfriend's checks and they're not much. When my job starts, I'll get 400 a week, which isn't much, but it's a hell of a lot better than what I make now, hopefully enough for me to move.

i work in university admissions office - mainly filing paperwork - i make $13.20 an hour - 37.5 hours per week - 50 weeks per year.

I deliver car parts.
It's okay, but I don't see myself there much longer. |
I work for a marketing research firm that collcts data on new movie previews. It used to be a cool job and really laid back and fun. Now 6 years later the company has gone through so many changes with so many moronic policies and restrictions it's not fun at all.
However, I have no illusions- I'm 52 and lucky to have a job in this economy, Our company seems to be doing well. |
^^^^ Wouldnt have picked you out to be 52 for some reason.
Im a shop forman (final assembly dept) at a place that restores classic cars. Ive been doing this since I was 16. ( Im 30, Ive known the owner since before I could walk). Used to come in after school when I was in high school. I make 18.65 an hour. I could probley move to a bigger place and make more money, but like I said, Ive known the guy all my life. He's taught me alot, most of it came from letting me screw things up and having to fix them by myself. And after all, money isnt the most important thing in life. |
I've been working for free for almost a year now.
beat that. |
i collect cans, on a good day i can fill one and a half garbage bags that'll fetch me a whopping eight dollars. just enough to buy underwears and a carton of smokes.
|
I work at home, watch the kids and I don't get paid anything.

Train Driver, well paid and surprisingly enjoyable job.
Chrono, I took a leap and completely changed careers in 2001. I was a paint development chemist for three years prior to my current job and whilst I liked the people I worked with, the job was shit. I used to say I got paid (poorly) to watch paint dry! Prior to that I spent three years analysing mining samples for precious metal content. So all I knew were chemistry based jobs which were ok but career wise they were dead ends. I went for a job on the railway as it was a complete change of direction with prospects for future advancement. Sometimes you just need to look at jobs you wouldnt really consider if you want a fresh start. |

Living the dream. How do you manage to pay your rent? |
Working in a chemical manufacturing plant (producing Precipitated Calcium Carbonate and Hydrated Lime) for the last 5 years, currently holding the position of Senior Executive, HR & Finance but recently the top management ensures that they will promote me as the Deputy Manager as soon as the production begins at our new plant for Sulfuric Acid & LABSA (Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid:confused: ). I guess I'll have to wait for another 2 to 3 months.
I'm quite satisfied with my job...I have a nice boss who is the Managing Director and also I need to report time to time direct to our Chairman of the company who is one of the prominent Industrialist of BD. They were very nice human beings and I'm glad for getting the opportunity to work with them. Though the salary here is a bit let down in comparing to others working in different national or multinational organizations (including banks, telecommunication companies etc.) but there the job pressure plays a major role behind the factor of getting a handsome amount of money at the end of the month. |
Right now, nothing.
Going into security shortly, going to be moving towards some dog work to see me through the rest of my companion animal certification. Security work should get me (since I'm only doing p/t while studying) about 35k, when that becomes dog handling it'll be about 45, 55 or so if I go full time. Then after a few years and some outside volunteer work, I'll be taking a pay cut to (hopefully) work as an RSPCA inspector. Who is your daddy, and what does he do? |

and yes - it is tough to get in - in fact the problem here is that most people who live in this area want to work for the college - pay sucks but good benefits - so whenver they want they can let someone go and know that there will be tons of applications. so i keep my head down and play good little worker and haven't been let go yet (yet) |
