CHAPTER 1
FADE IN: INT. BLAKE CITY, CERBERUS COMICS - NIGHT An empty comic book store, the only inhabitant, WAYNE LUCAS, sits behind the counter with a bored expression on his face. He is wearing blue jeans, a red T-shirt. A stack of comic books rest by his elbow, one open in front of him. But this doesn't have his attention, the television does. He's watching the news, speaking of the power outage in Twilight City. REPORTER (On Television) The power remains out throughout all of Twilight City, despite the best efforts of the electrical companies. How long will this city be left in the dark? Wayne watches this and vanishes from behind the counter. EXT. BLAKE CITY, CERBERUS COMICS - NIGHT The door to Cerberus Comics slams shut as if somebody had just left but nobody is in sight, the sign in the door has been switched to "CLOSED" EXT. TWILIGHT CITY, SHOPPING DISTRICT - NIGHT The city is still cloaked in darkness, with only the light from the full moon to guide it's citizens who have chosen to remain outside. The shopping district, however, is empty. Until several small headlights shine into the store windows. Three men on motorcycles illuminate the insides of the stores with glass in front. They get off of their motorcycles when a familiar face emerges from an alleyway. RED DYNAMO Here we are, a city with no police, no alarms, no defense whatsoever! The night is ours, gentlemen! Red Dynamo picks up one of his swords and chucks it through the window of one of the shops and the bikers run in through the broken window. Macky waits on the street. INT. TWILIGHT CITY, SHOPPING DISTRICT, SPORTING GOODS STORE - NIGHT The three bikers scatter through the store, collecting every possible weapon. Bats, Guns, Bows, you name it. One of them is standing at the ammunition when he is pulled into the shadows and emerges with a large slice through his neck. He drops dead. The figure that pulled him in isn't visible. In another part of the store, a second biker is carrying a large amount of baseball bats when he is snatched into the shadows and drops dead from having the back of his head smashed in with one of the bats. The last biker is walking toward the front of the store, in the light of the motorcycle. He walks toward freedom when he's tackled to the ground. We finally get to see who has been doing this, a handsome, dark-skinned man in black leather pants with a black t-shirt and black trenchcoat. A pair of black goggles cover his eyes. His neck and wrists are badly scarred. He has two .45 holsters underneath his forearms. He is holding a bow and arrow, this is RENEGADE. RENEGADE You know turning the lights out was a bad idea, right? BIKER Let me go! RENEGADE Alright. Fair enough. Renegade stands up, allowing the biker to think he's free. As he's about to get up Renegade STOMPS on his RIBS, smashing them. He pulls back the arrow at point-blank range in front of the biker's face and let's go. The arrow stands straight up and the biker stops moving. The Red Dynamo has seen all of this. Renegade begins to walk toward him. Red Dynamo brings down a bolt of lightning to strike Renegade, but he vanishes into the shadows before being struck. Unsure of a strategy, Red Dynamo turns himself into pure electrical energy and goes into a street light. It shines brightly. Renegade pulls out one of his .45s and shoots the light. The electrical energy runs across the ground toward another light when it vanishes. Several feet to the left Wayne Lucas is holding Red Dynamo up by the shoulders. Wayne notices Renegade emerging from the shadows as if her were part of them. RENEGADE That was impressive. Now take him out. BLUR Take him out? RENEGADE Prevent him from doing this again. Kill him. You'll be doing the city a favor. BLUR I can't kill him. I'm going to turn him in to the authorities. RENEGADE He killed all of them. BLUR Two wrongs don't make a right. RENEGADE But justice makes for a better world. BLUR That isn't justice. Red Dynamo manages to slip loose, only to be grabbed by Blur again. Blur then speeds off holding him. He's taking him back to Blake City to jail him there. He makes it to- INT. BLAKE CITY INSANE ASYLUM - NIGHT Blur knocks Red Dynamo out and turns him in. They welcome the Dynamo as if he was a regular there. He is placed in a rubber padded room where everyone is kept safe from him. And he's kept safe from Renegade. EXT. BLAKE CITY INSANDE ASYLUM - NIGHT Blur exits the asylum and speeds off. Renegade emerges from shadows and looks the building up and down. He turns and walks away from the asylum. FADE OUT. |

Excellent start.

Quite intriguing!
|
Man, that is a badass opening.
Can't wait to see what Momus is up to... |
Thoroughly enjoying it so far. I can see this being very fun to keep up with.
|
Excellent introduction. I hope you don't have too much trouble with Dier. After reading the rest of the characters, he's kind of a Vertigo boy floating about in a Marvel universe.
|
Awesome stuff so far, MM. I am glad you actually decided to write this. Can't wait to see what you do with the Gore The Red character.

Cool. I'm excited to see what you'll do with the character.
|
Great start, Massacre Man! Can't wait to see what you do with my character (and everyone else's too ;) )!

CHAPTER 2
FADE IN INT. TWLIGHT CITY, WESTWARD PENTHOUSE - NIGHT The lights still off around the city, a shaggy-haired man in a maroon suit holding a flashlight wanders blindly through his penthouse. He is leaving a large amount of monitors attached to a control panel shut off by the storm, a metallic fox mask resting on it. This is ERIC WESTWARD, he uses the flashlight to guide him to the door that leads to- INT. TWILIGHT CITY, WESTWARD PENTHOUSE, BASEMENT - NIGHT Eric attempts to turn on the generator but it won't start. He gets aggravated. ERIC Work! The generator kicks in and begins to work. He smiles to himself, accomplished. Eric returns upstairs. INT. TWILIGHT CITY, WESTWARD PENTHOUSE - NIGHT Eric sits at his control panel, all of the 15 monitors have what appear to be eye-level security camera footage. Eric sets the fox mask back in the drawer by the table, next to the flashlight. One of the "security cameras" in the monitors begins to move as if it's walking. Eric is focused on that screen. He has a night-vision view of the street. The view wanders to an alley. CUT TO EXT. TWILIGHT CITY ALLEY - NIGHT Two large trucks are parked next to each other. Four thugs gather around a man on his knees, bleeding from the nose, both eyes blackened. THUG #1 You know that because of you Roland had to call in one of his favors to stay out of prison, right? MAN I'm sorry! The cops offered me immunity if I talked! THUG #2 Look what this immunity got ya! Get me a gun outta the truck. MAN Please! THUG #3 Which gun? THUG #2 Surprise me. Thug #3 walks back to the truck and puts his hand on the handle of the door when he hears a gunshot then the sound of water quickly freezing over. He looks down and sees his hand frozen to the handle of the door. He shouts when quickly running into the alley is the "security camera" A robotic man, very well-disguised as a human with a revolver in hand. Dressed in a red cloak and cavalier clothing topped off with a red fox mask and a swashbuckler hat. In it's other hand is a hook that it shoots like a grappling hook into a part of the wall ahead of it. The wire retracts a bit allowing the "Volpone" robot to swing through the air over the trucks and land in the pile. It manages to fight them all off and tie every thug's hands behind their backs, The robot leaves them as they are. INT. TWILIGHT CITY, WESTWARD PENTHOUSE - NIGHT Eric leans back in his chair with another accomplished smile on his face. EXT. TWILIGHT CITY, WESTWARD POST - DAY The next morning, everything seems to be back to normal. The rain has stopped. Though everything around the city is still wet. We see the building for the WESTWARD POST a large building, the headquarters for a nationally-distributed newspaper. INT. TWILIGHT CITY, WESTWARD POST, MAIN LOBBY - DAYEric is walking to the elevator, in a black suit. With him is Eli Downey, a member of the board and the company's second-in-command, behind Eric. Downey seems to be angry. ELI (Infuriated) Do you really think this is good for us? ERIC (Calm) If I didn't think it was good for us do you think I would have done it? ELI This is ridiculous! Downsizing the sports section to expand the arts section! Giving free adspace to charities! What's next? ERIC Next? Maybe firing everyone who keeps questioning me. Eric grins at Eli and steps into the elevator. Eli looks horrified, his jaw hangs open. Eric laughs. ERIC Just kidding, Downey. If I got rid of you who would I have to make that face? ELI Your father wouldn't approve of any of this. Eric reaches out to shake Eli's hand. Eli grabs it. ERIC Hi. My name is Eric Westward and, despite popular belief, I'm not my goddamn father. Eric lets go of Eli's hand and waves. The doors close. INT. TWLIGHT CITY, WESTWARD POST, TOP FLOOR - DAY Eric gets out of the elevator at the top floor, a large, place decorated with several framed covers of the newspapers he's published. There's a door at the end leading to Eric's office, in front of the door is the desk of Eric's secretary. She's a cute girl, not overly sexy, but attractive in a modest, more innocent way. He walks to her desk. Her eyes are glued to her computer screen. ERIC Morning, Sydney. Sydney quickly looks up. SYDNEY Good morning, Mr. Westward. I didn't hear you come in. Eric is much more hesitant with his words than he was with Mr. Downey. ERIC I uh... noticed. SYDNEY Did you notice? ERIC Notice what? SYDNEY Oh! Probably not, I'm behind my desk. Don't I feel dumb. Sydney stands up from her chair and walks out, showing Eric her high-heeled shoes. SYDNEY I'm wearing the shoes you got me! ERIC Oh! Di... Did you like them? SYDNEY Yes. Thank you. ERIC Glad you like them. You look great in them. Sydney makes eye contact with Eric. Like she's waiting for him to say something more. ERIC So, is there anything on my schedule for today? Sydney breaks the eye contact and with a dissatisfied expression opens a planner on her desk. SYDNEY Um. Nothing until four. ERIC What's at four? SYDNEY You have an appointment to meet with a Gabriel Fret. ERIC Who is that? SYDNEY I'm not sure. Maybe just another charity looking for adspace. ERIC Right. Well, I'll be in my office. SYDNEY I'll be here. Eric walks to the door of his office and opens the door. He walks inside, then leans back out. ERIC Hey, Sydney. SYDNEY Yeah? ERIC I wanted to ask... Are you... You know what? Nevermind. Eric returns to his office. FADE OUT. |
Cool! Great work. Just the sort of mannerism I was thinking of. Not Tony Starkish at all.

Sorry I missed posting yesterday, I didn't sleep Saturday night so I spent Sunday catching up. This is a short one, but it introduced the main antagonist.
CHAPTER 3 INT. TWILIGHT CITY, PSYCHIATRIST'S OFFICE - DAY A small room in a small building. The only decoration is a diploma with a frame cracked down the middle. Two chairs sit in the center. In the chair with it's back to the door is DAVID ARTAUD, a tortured-looking soul trying to distract from the seemingly-permanent frown and rings under his eyes with a clean-shaven face, well-kept hair, a dress shirt and dress pants. In the other chair, DR. KELLER, chewing on his pen, his black slicked-back hair reaches the collar of his shirt. Dr. Keller takes his pen out of his mouth, it's covered in dents from his teeth, the two men begin to speak very softly. DR. KELLER So, David. Tell me why you decided to come back to see me. Last we spoke you told me that the only thing I was good for was making your wallet lighter. ARTAUD Well, I've been blacking out lately. DR. KELLER Are you sure this is a problem you should be taking up with me and not a physician? ARTAUD I've seen one already and they couldn't find any physical reasoning behind it. DR. KELLER I see. Has there been any extra pressure in your life lately? ARTAUD Nothing that wasn't caused by the blackouts. DR. KELLER Right. What do you feel before you black out? ARTAUD I feel kind of lightheaded. Then my condition gets worse. DR. KELLER The voices? ARTAUD Yes. The voices, instead of the thoughts about death and suffering are replaced with voices urging me to bring death and suffering- Dr. Keller places the pen back into his mouth. ARTAUD (CONT'D) And it's just one voice. Dr. Keller leaves the pen in his mouth as he speaks. DR. KELLER And what did you say this voice's name was? ARTAUD His name his Momus. DR. KELLER Right, Momus. Now, David, would you mind if i asked a question? ARTAUD No, go ahead. DR. KELLER Would you mind if I published an article about your condition? ARTAUD What? Yes, I mind. DR. KELLER Your name would be anonymous and I'd be willing to give you a portion of the pay. Artaud looks into space and starts to blink DR. KELLER David, are you okay? CUT TO: INT. TWILIGHT CITY, DAVID ARTAUD'S APARTMENT - DAY David's apartment isn't very large, but it isn't cramped either. It's perfect for a single man. He's asleep in his bed, he rolls over and opens his eyes and looks at the blinking digital clock, which he hasn't reset since the power outage. He walks into the kitchen to look at the clock on the wall. ARTAUD Four? Already? David turns and runs to a computer desk and boots up. Next to the mouse rests Dr. Keller's teeth-mark covered pen. |
Well done man...brief as it is, he's perfect so far. Pumped to see how he fits in to the story!
|
Good work. By the way, Return, cool use of the Greek god of shame. Pretty obscure deity.

I find it amazing that the Greeks even had a god of shame.

Quote:

Mockery through blame or censure. I've also heard shame.
|
A very good addition to the piece. I liked the subtlety of it, just simply showing his pen.
