I suppose its my turn for some tragedy.

My grandma was just diagnosed with colon cancer. I was never close to her, but i've known her all my life. She's lived with us for a few years, and recently moved home to W. Virginia. She's 80, and has emphysema, so the cancer is inoperable. I'm in one of the humanity modes where I just want to sit and ponder. Life is short.

Doc Faustus 03-02-2009 11:53 AM

That sucks. Just make sure to get enough time outside your head. It's crucial.

scouse mac 03-02-2009 01:24 PM

Sorry to hear about your gran .

You're right about things like this bringing into focus how short life is. Just dont let it dominate your thoughts. Best wishes anyhow.

Elvis_Christ 03-02-2009 02:57 PM

Sorry to hear about this. Best wishes to you and your family.

ChronoGrl 03-02-2009 05:40 PM

I'm sorry, Brad - That totally sucks.

*HUGS*

Take it easy.

sorry to hear it B - my step father died of cancer about a year ago. fortunately he went without too much pain

Dante'sInferno 03-02-2009 06:34 PM

I'm sorry man, I hope all goes well, or as good as it could go. Feel free to call if you ever want to talk about it. Hope you and your family manage, they and you have my best wishes.

cheebacheeba 03-03-2009 05:31 PM

Just thought I'd step in and say, sorry for your bad news.
However, on the other hand 80+ is a pretty good run, eh?

Best wishes to both.

- B

I'm sorry about your grandma Posher! Can you visit her? If you can, maybe you should. She'd probably really enjoy that. Cancer sucks. I watched my mom die of Pancreatic cancer. Fortunately for her sake it only took 6 weeks, sucked for us though. But they had her on really good drugs, so at least she was relatively comfortable through it. At the end, they'll probably keep her so drugged that she won't even be able to talk to you, although she'll stil know you're there (I believe). So visit her before it gets to that point if you can. Tell her you love her, you'll have no regrets about that if you do.

Take care man. You know how to contact me if you want and please feel free to do so if ya wanna talk about it.

fuglystick 03-03-2009 07:52 PM

Sorry to hear that.

milktoaste 03-03-2009 09:01 PM

Cancer is a bitch, I lost quite a few family to it.

newb 03-04-2009 04:45 AM

Also 80 year old people you aren't close to isn't a tragedy. 80 year old people you are close to isn't even a tragedy. I would say it's closer to a miracle than a tragedy to be honest.

Well, i'm not really all that sad about her exactly. It's just her time, plain and simple. However, the thing i'm sad about is how 80 years is considered a *life*. People should live forever IMO.

I would only be willing forever if my body didn't start breaking down over time and use. If we could refine genetic engineering, transhumanistic robotic transplants, fine - But I do NOT want to get to a point where strangers have to change me. Quite frankly, the idea of getting old to me is repulsive and frightening.

This is a thread about dying people, actually. So if you could have a little respect that'd be stellar.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 03-04-2009 01:19 PM

no, this is just a really bad thread that needs humor.

Posher778 03-04-2009 01:21 PM

X¤MurderDoll¤X 03-04-2009 01:22 PM

I think about that pretty often, but death is the only thing that keeps our lives in perspective and reminds us how little time we have. Our achievements would mean a lot less if we had forever to do them. I don't mean to be crass and I apologize if a somewhat humorous example is used here, but think about action movies. Imagine if Die Hard was three days long and Bruce Willis had errands to run. He does these awesome things under very little pressure and at his leisure. The terrorists assemble a grill, hold a barbecue, watch Roots. It loses meaning. It's too slow. The conflicts become nearly irrelevant. At the end of it, the viewer is just glad it's done. Sucks. What a complete and utter boring piece of shit. In life as in literature and film, conflict creates meaning. I meditate on it every day, it doesn't help much, but I do have some perspective in spite of frayed nerves. Living forever is living without consequence and that ain't living.
