Happy New Year!

I'm back. Sorry I was gone so long. My aunt did pass away and I went to Florida for the funeral. I stayed longer because my Mom was having a hard time dealing with her sister's death.

V, I'm sorry if I messed up the competition! :o

_____V_____ 12-30-2008 06:01 AM

Welcome back HF!

Sorry to hear about your Aunt. May her soul rest in peace.

Idol is doing fine. Jump over to check it out and send me your Grade quick!

ferretchucker 12-30-2008 06:05 AM

A bit early for the new year but oh well! Good to see you back Hammerfan.

hammerfan 12-30-2008 06:08 AM

New Year's Eve is tomorrow - I may be slightly early, but........

Thanks for the welcome back.

Zero 12-30-2008 02:51 PM

I care! I love the monkey-man!

ChronoGrl 12-30-2008 03:20 PM

I didn't see this thread until now... I am so sorry about your Aunt, HF. That's awful.

Hope you're still able to go out and enjoy a fun New Year's Eve!

Sooooooooo...

What's everyone doing for New Year's??

The boyfriend and I are going to go into Boston, stay at a hotel, go out to a really nice dinner, and then finish the evening with a "Hollywood Glamour" party. It might be cheesy, but I wanted an opportunity to wear a pretty dress and dance with my Man. :D

monalisa 12-30-2008 07:04 PM

Hammerfan, I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt. She's at peace. I hope your mom is doing better dealing with the loss. Hope you're doing well too!

My contribution to New Years' Eve is a nifty link I use that tells the time zones around the world, so you can see when the New Year hits at various places. I know, I'm a nerd, but I thought it was fun. (Actually I use this link at work to see what time zones clients are in, but here's a fun use for it.)

Happy New Year EVERYONE!

Bit under 9 hours left to go for my NY.
Starting from a couple hours, me, the girl and one other friend will be hangin' and well, you know me, catering like a motherfucker...hittin' some green, watching whatever fireworks we do, and some movies.
Ours (firework/pryotech display) here in Sydney is meant to be based on storms, of which parts of my country have been attacked pretty badly by this year... so for once it might actually be cool.
I like storms, no mater what shit they wreck, I can't help it.
So yeah, not really going out with the crowd hatred. Might be hitting up a local "party", but I dunno.

So yeah happy NY all, hope it's safe wherever you're at.
All the best.

Storm whore too, so if ya get any good pics...

Heh.
Lessee...some minced lamb skewers we'll be grilling.
This one I'll share because it's quite nice, and very simple.
Just minced lamb, mint from the garden, some garlic, and rosemary for the skewers, rolled together with a little cornflour for stability.
I made a sauce from yhogurt, a little lemonjuice, more garlic, water, cumin, chilli, pepper.
We'll have those on some tortila-style flatbreads, just with standard butter lettuce.

We'll pretty much be having chicken for the rest of the night, heh.

The girl did some research, and will be making traditional spicy chinese style garlic chicken with rice with boneless drumstick fillets. All the marination is currently taking place.

I cooked up a bbq sauce over about 3 days, and no, no way I won't give the ingredients away, this one is literally, out of all the things I know how to make, one of the best things I produce, heh...I'll just say that it was pineapple juice based and leave it at that.
It's basically a super-tangy (make the back of your jaws tickle)fruity but not too fruity, smoky/spicy bbq sauce?
It's about 20 ingredients really...
That will be going over some chicken "drummettes" which are just yknow..the fat end of the wing, which I have marinating in a little hickory essence, salt and pepper.

We also have what you would call a master stock that we've been developing over the last year or so...since it's pretty much well, a random collection of ingredients that changes all the time dependant upon the cook, I won't tell you what mine is specifically, but here's an idea:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_stock
that's what it is but it's very open to individual variations.
We're boiling that up, and poaching some chicken (this time, the MIDDLE section of the wings) in that. Very tasty.

Drinks, well there's vodka, apple vodka, strawberry champagne, some red wine and a port I infused with cherry juice a while back.

There's junk foods aplenty for in between.

ManchestrMorgue 12-30-2008 09:34 PM

New Year's celebrations will be starting here quite soon. Just about to head out to the harbour myself - dinner at a friend's place, and then out to a park near their place that is on the waterfront to watch the fireworks.

Lots of drinks planned!

Happy New Year.

Hmmm, the bbq sauce has me curious. I have a recipe you shared about 2 years ago (yes, I actually save these things, I'm not just wasting your time when I ask), it has pineapple juice in it, but is only about 10 ingredients. I wonder if it was the start of what you've created now. :D

BTW, do you remember Olivia? I have a bbq sauce recipe from her from the same time too. Wonder what ever happened to her.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing!

urgeok2 12-31-2008 10:47 AM

i doubt i'll be back after now until at least tomorrow - so i'll say my happy new years as well.

we're going to relax - just the 3 of us - maybe play some games, watch movies and eat chinese food.

i dont know if that is a tradition in the USA but for some reason Chinese food on new years eve is a bit of a tradition up here..

Happy new year, my friend! The 3 of us are just going to hang at home, too. Maybe play Monopoly or something. We're going to have a fancy dinner: filet mignon and twice-baked potatoes. With some wine.

OK, I've heard of a Bloody Mary, but not a Bloody Caesar. What's in it?

Russia just blew up Japan. You'll see it on the news in a few hours.

Disease 12-31-2008 06:25 PM

So happy New Year, I have nothing to do tomorow. That is pretty much the life I have lived the past week, up till 5 am and rise around 1 or 2 pm...

Have some food, watch a game of darts, do some writing, have some wine, watch some cricket and get stoned and crash out around 5...

But tomorrow, tomorrow will be no different, except for a redpemtion on the guilt I felt for my sleep in yesterday. When I got up to go to the dentest who gave me the worst and most expensive dental work I have ever undergone...

So Happy New Year, it should be fun....
