Speaking of Eyes
I'm sitting here sort of stunned.
Been in a sort of denial for the last few months - but i cant ignore it any more.. I've definately lost some sight in my left eye. Until a short while ago i've had 20/20 vision .. pretty good for a 47 year old guy who's spent the last 27 years working in front of computer screens (and an avid reader) but tnow - it is apparent i'll need to get my eyes tested and probably have to wear glasses to read. frigging weird .. i'm one of the only people i know that doesnt wear glasses or contacts ... what the hell .. its been a nice ride. this happen to anyone else ? when i cover my right eye - it just feels like its a bit blurry - like there's water in my eyes that will clear away - but it never does .. ahh well ... i wonder how long before my dick falls off ..... Newb ? |

Both of my eyes are very different, but not because of age. My right eyes has it a bit worse because I took a chunk out of it when I was young (no permanent damage other than worse vision in that eye). My knees have taken a toll throughout the years though. Martial arts, football, wrestling, basketball... I'm not even 30 and my knees pop every time I bend down. |
Yes, yes, I have worn glasses since I was six! I know the feeling.
You need more carrots! You need more vitamins! They will help you see better as well, so that you may continue staring at women. ;) |

i'm by no means a jock ... but i love team sports - they've been a huge part of my life - and will continue to be until they roll me off the court. |
Usually the left eye is the one which goes first. But it was good while it lasted. (47 years, thats great)
Ask the doc to check closely. You dont want to exert too much on the left one. Stop reading in dim light, and watching movies in the dark. And avoid wearing sunglasses/goggles in glaring sunlight...removing them after getting to a destination can affect the eyes. Shades are good, as long as they arent too dark. Eat a lot more of green stuff - spinach. Even carrots, beets and radishes. Thats good for eyes, and vision. And, oh yes, welcome to the world of glasses and contacts. :) |
It amazes me how many people need glasses or contacts. My sister and I are the only two people I know of who don't them and we're fairly young. It seems like everyone needs them by their teen years or younger now.

My eyes were perfect until about a year ago when my left eye got blurry and I'm only 20. I was doing a lot of reading over the summer and my vision was just getting so blurry. It's only a very small difference from my right eye but it's enough to cause eye strain and very bad headaches. I guess the same thing happened with my Mom, her vision was great until she was a teenager and then she had to go get glasses.
You should definitely go to an optometrist and not just get reading glasses from a store though. My sister was about 6 when her vision started getting blurry, and they took her to the optometrist who said nothing was wrong with her eyes. Took her to the doctor and she had a blood clot that was pressing on her eye. Could've killed her if they didn't do something about it. |

I'm nearsighted. My left eye is good, but my right eye is bad. I've been wearing contacts and glasses my whole life. I wish I could afford Lasik surgery.

Hmm..but at least it hasn't become worse--to the point where you only see blurs of color. Perhaps when you get tested, it's not too late for them to perform and operation on your eyes--perfecting your vision. I know one lady who had a similar situation as yours and wore glasses but she had the docs perform an operation where they changed her vision from 20/20 to 20/15. I think it costed a couple grand. But she sees sharper now and no glasses. |
Funny, my eyes have been going too. It happens randomly, sometimes in a book, sometimes on the computer screen. I'm getting mine tested soon.

Well, I can understand the computer but why have you been staring at the sun?

You should make sure you have proper lighting and take frequent breaks when youre reading or on the computer. |
I started wear glasses when I was four and my parents finally let me get contacts in eighth grade and have been wearing them since. My vision is so bad that I can't see past my nose and anything that is in focus I have to close one eye to see otherwise it's double-vision because it's just too close to my eyes.
I want to get LASIK, but my optometrist says that you should wait until you are 30, since then your eyes will stop changing and you will only need to do the surgery once (sometimes you can only do it once because of the thickness of your lens so you have to make it count). I can't imagine waking up and being able to see, it would be such a miracle to me to be able to that. I have to keep everything on my nightstand and around my bed in the same place or I'll trip or can't find things. |
Been wearing glasses & contacts for a long time. I think mine is mostly due to the fact that I unloaded a can of RAID in my eyes when I was 2. I wanted to watch the spray come out of the nozzle (I actually remember wanting to see it, but not much else)

I wear contacts without them id probably be blind.

It seems my eyesight is going too,I'm currently learning to drive and on my last lesson the instructor asked me if I could read the number plate of a car 60 ft away,Nope not a chance.40 ft away?Still no.20 ft away?Nope, but I could now see the car to which the number plate was attached!Anyway I'm in for an eye test on Saturday,my next lesson is on Thursday at 6pm so if your in the area and see a red Corsa moving erratically give it a wide berth :)

My eyes are that bad, too, Noir. I've been wearing glasses since second grade. Of course, now I wear bifocals :( |

I've noticed a drop-off in my vision lately. I've never needed glasses and have always had freakishly good vision (20/10) but now it is simply average. I can't read the street signs from more than a block away anymore and it feels really weird.
I know it only keeps degenerating so I'll probably be headed for glasses in the next decade or two. Getting old blows. My knuckles are the worst - they ache all the time...especially when a low pressure system rolls through:( |
I wore glasses for a long time, then stopped for a while (I cant remember why) and when i tried to go back, i couldnt do it. I have always been in the same boat as Rod, about 20/11 for most o fmy life, but I have an astigmatism that makes things screwy at certain distances, whihc is why i had the glasses in the first place.
These days, i cant wear anythgin. Even sunglasses give me a splitting headache, so on sunny days i wear a hat with a visor. |
i cant leave the house without sunglasses .. even when it's overcast.
and V is telling me not to watch TV in the dark ??!! thats the only way i can watch a movie !!! |
Ah the joys of aging. I got glasses when I was about 6, and wore them or contacts until I was 32. I did lasiks, and went to 20/15. Not too bad, until I hit 39, when I was told the headaches and blur were from computer screens. Ugh..ah well, the lasiks was well worth it; still is. Not having to wait until the correctives are in or on is a huge bonus. As Rod said, the low pressure systems are murder. Knuckles swell and hurt, the knees stiffen, and the toes feel like someone hit them with a hammer. And the fun has just begun here in the Pacific Northwest :D

As for watching TV in the dark, total darkness is a tremendous strain to the eyes. Some sort of soft lighting, preferably behind you, overhead...somewhere where it doesnt cast an annoying reflection in the screen, is much better. The eyes will get accustomed to the soft light, and dont have to adjust to the blackness of the room and the sudden shifting glares from the TV. |

I still play in a adult hockey league and adult baseball league and it sucks because everything is blurry in close :( but from 2 ft out it's still perfect. And the dick is working just fine, no little blue pill needed........for now!!! |
