heroes
Who are your heroes?Someone that has touched your life, made you a better person?
1.My children-without them i would never have gotten this far. They keep me going, give me a reason to live and try harder. 2.My parents-they have done so much for me my whole life and especially the last couple of months. They are the best parents in the world,i don't know what i will do when they are gone:( 3.Josh-my best friend. He has listened to my bs and also told me when i was wrong. He talks to me for hours on the phone and even spends the night with me just to give me a shoulder to cry on.He has been there for me through so much and even when i was a bitch to him,he was there asking for more. This guy is really a special person:) 4.HDC-i know it sounds crazy,a forum being a hero.I have came here at my worst and you guys can turn it around and not even know it.There are a few of you that i talk to off the forum, you guys know you are special:)I sometimes come here crying my eyes out and by the time i log off i'm laughing my ass off. Thanks for just being you;) So,what about you?I think everyone has had someone that has done something to forever change you. |

Kurt Vonnegut. He was Humanism personified. A reasonable voice in a mad world. He managed to balance a healthy insightful cynicism about humanity while at the same time holding some hope inside him.
An inspiration from my teenage years till now. |
Mark Twain.
Had a lot of horrible ideas/investments, but he went in head first and still came out smelling like roses. I love his philosophy. Basically, if you're going to make a mistake, do it at 100mph. If you live through it, learn from it and go at it again. |
Always loved George Carlin for being about the straightest shooter in history - and entertaining all the while, his whole life. Not much of a reason to glorify him, just someone I always looked up to for those simple things.
Also, ha, some black dude that swam out and rescued me from a "rip" current...shame to say I can't remember more, but I was about 6 at the time, kids have drowned on less...showed me that someplace there's people that give a shit, and that well, maybe it'll be time to learn about water safety... My mother - for all her flaws, and trust me, there's many - she kept a child alive that became who I am today. Always honest and straightforward, crazy, but someone I guess I appreciate most in life. My old dog, Edgar. German shepherd...was there when I was born, from then on. Literally took an angry sydney funnel web spider in the mouth when I was about 4-5 years old. The thing was rearing up, I literally thought this was it, then heard a growl, and there was my dog, knocking it over with it's paw and eating it. Unfortunately, being a former abused puppy he had some mental issues..."had to" be put down when I was about 10 after a fear biting incident. I still remember him clear as day. + Anyone who puts helping children and animals (who can be voiceless) above themselves. |
i honestly have no heros.
there are a few people i admire and respect - but not on the level of hero. the guy my son is named after is a guy i highly admire. He had a crap childhood - yet remained a calm likeable guy who never had a bad word to say about anyone. His wife went through some serious post-partum craziness - he stuck by her where most guys would have lost their minds. he's weathered all kinds of storms - and still remains the nicest guy i know. i could never be like this guy - but it gives me something to try for. decency, honesty, integrety - are the qualities i admire most in a person. traits we take for granted - but are really difficult to maintain. |
I had quite a few idols growing up, but as I got older, i could never "get into" anything or anyone enough to look up to them too much.
The closest I come to that now is my wife. She is extremely smart, direct, awlays says what she thinks, puts our daughter above all else, even when she probably should put her self first, she managed to lose an amazing amount of weight, which is no small thing, especially since she was horribly overweight as a kid (anyone who had weight problems as a kid knows how hard that is to conquer), and never did anythign stupid like fad diets or starving herself, she just exercized and moderated what she ate. I married an amazingly cool, beautiful woman who will hopefully get to go back to school and get her master's and doctorate soon so she can have a wider impact than just our family. I'm just a big dork who likes computers. Oh, and I look up to H P Lovecraft and Bob Salvatore when it comes to writing, Salvatore got me into writing in the first place, and Lovecraft got me into horror writing. |

Mikael Akerfeldt
Jon Lester |
I don't know if they are "heroes" of mine. I haven't neccessarily been "saved" from these people, but have continued to build my current pathos for what they do and interests. So I guess I have a great deal of admiration and respect for them:

head like a hole was the 1st thing i heard from NIN ..
I bought the CD - have a few since - nothing like your collection though .. i even have a couple of t-shirts - (without you i'm nothing - or something like that .... and i think one other as well ... still in good shape - i should send them to you... |
Trent is defintiely a huge musical influence. Beleieve it or not, NIN music has heavily influenced a lot of my writing, and it is typically what i will listen to when I write (especially horror).
My story Gloom (which is terribly unfinished at just 2 chapters) was inspired by Quake, especially the soundtrack, and I use snippets from NIN songs at the beginning of each chapter (they relate to the content of the chapter. the second one isnt updated on the site, but I switched lyrics from "Only" in place of "Piggy") |
Thats cool Urge!My favorite single, would probably be Into the Void. And my favorite songs would be "The New Flesh" and "And All That Could Have Been" both being Fragile era songs.Which is my favorite era and to me his greatest time as a musician even though it was probably his worst. With his addictions.
But yeah,i have a pretty big collection Urge.I have no t-shirts though,so you can pm me a picture of one of the shirts. To get started. @ Vod,Me too,NIN music has influenced me greatly. And is my inspiration.Hah,i can't even go through one day without refrencing a NIN song. That's how much i love them.:D I also love the Quake soundtrack.Heh,A Ghosts I-IV senior. |

I dont think I could pick any 1 track to be my favorite, but I would pick Closer as his best overall arrangement. I have been listening to The Wretched (Fragile) and Lights in The Sky(The Slip) A lot lately. |

The Wretched(live) is even more amazing to me then the album version.I love the ebow in it.One of my favorite live songs by him.I like Lights In The Sky,I cant wait to see whats next from him, which i think will be the end of Year Zero which i liked alot.My favorite overall albums though are,The Fragile and Broken. Which are masterpieces to me.:) |
I had never really listened to into the void before, but its essentially Slipping Away from things falling apart :)
Slipping away is one of my "Zoning" songs, it relaxes the hell out of me. |

She has mannerisms that make her unwatchable at times, and basically, I'm a guy and most of what she talks about is not on my list of crap that I care about. Dont get me wrong, I think she is admirable; I'm just not into her. |
I wish I had one but I don't. There's nobody I really look up to as an inspiration.

NIN definitely was a huge mental health factor for me.
I was 18 and absolutely lost in life-again. The first album had hit the left of center radio stations and they toured the small clubs at that time. I used to drive around at 3am with their tape blaring. I screamed at the top of my lungs and cried till I was empty. Then I was exhausted enough to sleep and be almost normal the next day. Frank Herbert- I had fallen into my first major depression and had picked up his entire Dune series up to the book before ChapterHouse.(why can't I think of this title? grr) I read them all back to back and felt (and this sounds really stupid) smarter. I had better conversations with people after I read his work, which in turn got me out more, which made me more friends, which made more events happen, ect. ect. Which made me feel less alone and the cycle of all that pulled me out of the darkness. My kids- they have taught me so much, I cannot even begin.... |
Whatever happened to Leon Trotsky?
He got an ice pick That made his ears burn Whatever happened to dear old Lenny? The great Elmyra, and Sancho Panza? Whatever happened to the heroes? Whatever happened to the heroes? Whatever happened to all the heroes? All the Shakespearoes? They watched their Rome burn Whatever happened to the heroes? Whatever happened to the heroes? No more heroes any more No more heroes any more Whatever happened to all the heroes? All the Shakespearoes? They watched their Rome burn Whatever happened to the heroes? Whatever happened to the heroes? No more heroes any more No more heroes any more |

Here's another one you won't know:
Out of the ruins out from the wreckage Can't make the same mistakes this time. We are the children the last generation We are the ones they lefl behind. And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it Living under the fear till nothing else remains. We don't need another hero We don't need to know the way home All we want is life beyond the thunderdome. Looking for something we can rely on There's got to be something better out there. Love and compassion their day is coming All else are castles built in the air And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it Living under the fear till nothing else remains. All the children say: We don't need another hero . . . So what do we do with our lives? We leave only a mark. Will our story shine like a light or end in the dark? Is it all or nothing? We don't need another hero . . . All the children say: We don't need another hero - we don't need another hero . . . |
Correct again. You got me.
