Summer Without Sam

Shitty sequal to a movie about a real life killer, or Stepfatherfan's second choice dream come true?

The latter. Upon the completion of my top 100 movies, and the subsequential purchasing or otherwise obtaining of those movies, I will be taking a 50 day hiatus from almost all internet activites so that I can do this: 100 movies, 2 movies a day for 50 days. Starting with 100 and 99 going up to the two best movies ever. After watching each movie, I'll be writing a short review (paragraph or two), and compiling all the reviews into kindof an essay, and will be using that for the opening of the website I said I was working on. This message board will be one of the internet activites I'll be cutting down a lot of, if not all.

And I'll try to time it out so that the start of the 50 days coincides with summer vacation, hence the title. So. 50 days without me. It'll be a while though, don't worry.

bloodygurl02 01-26-2004 06:46 PM

well good luck and have fun sam. that sounds like a kool idea

Rotting Eye 01-26-2004 06:47 PM

Heh damn man, two movies a day, that's only say.. maybe 4 hours. Then say another hour to write up both reviews.

Well I guess if you have a lot of other stuff to do, you'll have to work around that too.

But I dunno, five hours just doesn't seem like that big of a chunk of time when compared to the time you spend on here heh. :P

otis 01-26-2004 06:48 PM

horror movies or all movies?

Evisceration 01-26-2004 06:49 PM

:(

How am I going to go without teh butt sechz!?!

DON'T LEAVE ME!

Why not 3? Most horrors are an hour and a half to 2. Bah, I'll let you do it how you want.

Have fun.

:(

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 06:49 PM

this is just after school and weekends. I've got other stuff to do during the summer.

the list as it stands (the slashes mean I have it on DVD)

No. All movies. Some movies are long. For example:
Quote:

/12. Goodfellas *****
/13. Ran *****
That is one day of movie watching I'll be doing. Goodfellas isn't so long, but have you SEEN Ran? I'm gonna be fucking drained before I even start on Goodfellas.

I know you like Stepfather and that's it. I know you only well enough to know that 50 straight days w/o me wouldn't be number 1

100 is divisible by 2. The next number it's divisible by is 5, and no way in hell I"m watching 5 movies in one day.

otis 01-26-2004 06:55 PM

Nice choice in movies.

You don't like Dead Alive?

Actualy, it wouldn't even be number 168.

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 06:57 PM

read my bottom 12 movies to find out:
1: North
2: Polish Vampire in Burbank
3: Manos: Hands of Fate
4: The Brain that Wouldn't Die
5: Love and a Bullet
6: Wing Commander
7: Jaws: The Revenge
8: 2001: A Space Travesty
9: Exorcist 2: The Heretic
10: Halloween 3
11: Feardotcom
12: Dead Alive

It was 10, but Polish Vampire in Burbank and Love and a Bullet bumped it to 12

Like I said, all I know is it's not 1

Rotting Eye 01-26-2004 06:58 PM

Well technically, you don't have to have an equally divisible movie. Just watch say.. 2 movies on the last day, instead of 3.

Unless you're like me and have OCD, and have to do everything methodically.

Evisceration 01-26-2004 06:59 PM

Exorcist II is at 9?!

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:01 PM

2 movies a day is clean. It's uniform. If I'm going to do it I'm going to do it right.

avenger00soul 01-26-2004 07:02 PM

I'd actually be interested in reading your reviews. You have a couple of films on your list that I hate. But for the most part I dig the majority of those films.

I HATED that movie. But I didn't hate it more than 8-1

Like?

BTW, The Ring/Ringu isn't permanent. It was placeholder to begin with, and since it's 2 movies it would fuck with the system

Just Bringing Out the Dead and Pi. But everything else looks pretty cool. I especially love Narc, Platoon, Dark City, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and several others.

And "O", is that referring to that Julia Stiles movie?

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:09 PM

yeah, O is the Othello modernization.

Bringing out the Dead is partly due to my weakness for Scorsese. No excuses for Pi, though, I just love that movie.

I like Scorsese, but I hated Bringing Out the Dead. Gangs of New York wasn't a big hit with me either. Daniel Day Lewis was AWESOME though. If he would have killed Leo it would have been alot better. And I don't say that b/c I don't like Leo. I say that b/c Lewis' character was....just so goddamn cool.

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:14 PM

Yeah, Bill was a Man's Man. I marked during the scene where it showed him in bed and it panned out and he had 3 girls in there with him. Adrian Brodey sucks, though.

Where did Brody come from? I don't like him either though.

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:17 PM

he won for Best Actor over Lewis that year.

Oddly Enough, Brodey was in Summer of Sam

otis 01-26-2004 07:18 PM

I like alot of them, but is Jeepers Creepers on there? I hate that movie. I love Se7en.

I thought you might be incorporating Summer of Sam to this. I forgot that he beat out Lewis. That did suck.

otis 01-26-2004 07:19 PM

Oh, i think you should have more Johnny Depp movies. He is a great actor. He plays all roles.

Depp was pretty damn good in Donnie Brasco. But so was the rest of the cast.

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:22 PM

I go by movie, not particular actors.

Sooo in other words, he was a slut?

otis 01-26-2004 07:25 PM

I know, but do you have Blow, or Sleepy Hollow, I don't like Pirates of The Carriabean, but he was good in that.

Good rule. But when an actor has proved to me that he/she picks great roles time and again, I will see particular films just for them.

Like I'll watch a movie with Dafoe no matter what.

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:27 PM

Uh oh, Feminazi's here to bitch at us.
To me, lots of sex does not = slut. If the tables were turned, I wouldn't say "Look at that girl with the three guys. What a slut." Happy now? No, he wasn't a slut.

Sure he was good in them, but the movies themselves weren't good enough to make the list so far.

Good performances will help, but the only instance I can think of in which a performance alone would get the movie on the top 100 would be Monster. Charlize Theron was THAT good in the movie.

otis 01-26-2004 07:28 PM

sorry , but sam who is that picture of???

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:29 PM

in the AV?
That's Billy Crudup in Jesus' Son

His avatar? Looks like Crudup.

Edit: Yes, it is.

Edit again: Crudup was great in Almost Famous.

otis 01-26-2004 07:30 PM

I am sorry but i don't know who that is.

Who in almost famous?

Sam The Egg 01-26-2004 07:31 PM

yeah, he's one of the best in movies today.
