Favorite Halloween Season Movies?
Okay, so what are the movies you love to watch during the Halloween season?
Some of the movies that get me "in the mood" are... Horror of Dracula Halloween II Dracula vs. Frankenstein The Werewolf vs. Vampire Woman |
The Ring
The Exorcist Dog Soldiers The Thing Atmospheric horror gets me in the mood. And Dog Soldiers has Werewolves :) Oh, and of course Halloween 1 and 2, and if I am feeling masochistic, 3. "8 more days till halloween, halloween, halloween. 8 more days 'till halloween, Silver Shamrock!" Try getting that out of your head :) |
fright night
lost boys invaders from mars (t. hooper) |
Heh heh...for some reason, the trashy/cheesy quality of Halloween II makes it more fun to watch than the original film...the really synthy-sounding score works too...
|
Nightmare on Elm Street franchise
Scream trilogy Some of the Halloweens the first 3 Hellraisers Anything with Zombies |
I'm doing these at my party this year. Hopefully, I'll have enough time to watch a few of them uninterupted.
From Hell, Witchfinder General, The Loved One, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, No Way to Treat a Lady, Funny Games, Haxan, Dawn of the Mummy, Sugar Hill, Blue Sunshine, 10 Rillington Place |
|
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Nightmare Before Christmas I've grown very fond of Monster House as well. I also like to throw in some Universal classics, my favorite being the Creature. Wolfman is also great for Halloween. |

yeah that does double duty at our house (xmas too) my son digs corpse bride as well so it makes a good (if redundant) double feature |
Sleepy Hollow
Nightmare before Christmas Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Ernest Scared Stupid and lots of episides of Hilarious House of Frightenstein! |
|
Halloween 1 and 2
Hocus Pocus (Loved that film for years) Psycho Creepshow |
The Haunting (1963)
Spider Baby (1968) Two creepy 60s classics with the right atmosphere for the season. |
The Monster Squad
|
Wouldn't be Halloween for me without at least one viewing of:

At Halloween I love to diversify, but nothing makes me feel as halloween-y as really gothic, really classic-feeling, autumnal fare like
Sleepy Hollow Frankenstien Nosferatu The Wolf Man La Maschara del Demonio The Phantom of the Opera and animated fare like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the stop-motion Annabel Lee |

Okay.....so I was at BestBuy yesterday, and they had "Fat Albert's Halloween Special" and I remembered seeing it when it was originally on--a long time ago! I enjoyed it that one time I saw it, so I grabbed it (I had actually been waiting for this to come out on video). Turns out the thing was on in 1977, so I haven't seen it in 30 years! Holy Moley! Anyway, it is still fun, and maybe the years have improved it...it is one of those traditional Halloween specials that they don't really make anymore. I recall this running originally at night.

... This year, I have friends getting married on Halloween (not on purpose; the Hall was 1/2 price on Friday). But back on topic... Rocky Horror Picture Show used to be a Halloween ritual when I was back in high school. As for this year - dunno. The boyfriend and I will most likely do some catchup on Asian Horror or, make sure to take in our new indie favorites:

I always watch a ton of horror all through October, but the only movie I know for sure I will watch on Halloween is Pumpkinhead. Because I watch it every year. Sleepy Hollow is another good one. |

As for Halloween movies, I make sure I watch all the Halloween series and the Scream trilogy every year. And ever since I was a kid I loved Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas so I have to watch those at least a few times during the season. |

I think a purposeful Halloween masquerade wedding would be awesome (Doc - I'm picturing a macabre scene out of your book - A Murderland wedding). |
The ones that get me into the Halloween mood will always be the Halloween franchise but there is others of course..
Ernest Scared Stupid Hocus Pocus Monster House Friday the 13th A Nightmare On Elm Street Child's Play |
