Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 12:45 PM

That is so true, Sam...Art imitates life...Women are survivors...We have to be, in order to live in a "man's world"... :)

Haunted 01-25-2004 01:32 PM

While I agree that women are survivors and the fact that they're the only ones left at the end of the film may indicate the primordial sense that women will prevail.

However,

The social and physical rammifications and implementations forced upon women by the popular patriarchy are the deplorable. The media is the greatest enemy woman has ever had to face. Note that I said media, not art. The media has been unkind to art as well but at the same time created new outlets for artistic minds. So the media is a tricky entity.

Lets look, though, at the other role of women in horror: the domineering and often insane mother.

Psycho
Friday 13th (to a small degree)
Aliens (even)

Those are only three, but there countless others. The role the mother plays is that she creates the flawed son, sons, or offspring. She's the greatest threat and monster in the film although she's seldom really apart of the movie or whatever.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I could add "The Ring" to that too. I'm not going to, because I'm unsure. Someone tell me why or why not, if you don't mind.

meetthecreeper 01-25-2004 01:32 PM

Come on Bloodrayne without woman there would be no man. Women are my reasons for living, I love them all

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 01:34 PM

there are plenty of evil/domineering fathers too, ya know

Haunted 01-25-2004 01:41 PM

True, but we're talking about women.

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 01:42 PM

sure, it's always the arguments that support the other side that get ignored

hmmm

to be honest i always viewed the entire slasher sub-genre as throw away to begin with. when i rent a slasher film im pretty sure i'm not going to be seeing a whole lot of in depth character development. Lets be honest here, we all watch slashers to see people die, and its my opinion that because of this 90% of the charactors are throw away to begin with. So if your just going to kill somone why not up the anty and make her a permiscuios teenager with a great rack? I mean really on their most basic level, slasher films are little more than exploitation flicks and the charctors (especially women) are depicted in such a manner.

Arioch 01-25-2004 02:42 PM

Women have it better than men these days i think.

What? Look at women's roles globally and then tell me we've got it better.

Im not saying that at all, equality still (and probably will always) have a long way to go. But you gotta admit, your a hell of alot better off than you were 40 years ago.

Haunted 01-25-2004 03:02 PM

That's for damn sure. Hell, we're better off then we were 20yrs. ago. It's due to our insistence on human rights that allows for a more global perspective on women's rights.

I didn't understand what you were saying. Sorry about that.

Its alright, its a very heated subject. But anytime you want a political discussion about the inequalities of male vs. female in the social arena im game;)

I like you, Haunted. You and I think on the same wavelength. :)
I do agree with Sam about the "evil daddy" thing. hehe Stepfather, right? My favorite evil Daddy. and in the end, it is his stepdaughter who kills him, but up until that point, he does a good job of beating the fuck out of her mom. I have a bit of a different view on physical contact between men and women than other females do. Since I want to be treated equaly, I'm willing to scrap with a guy and NOT start all of that "OMG you hit me and I'm a woman" crap. I support the idea of women becoming physicaly stonger in order kick men's asses, when needed. Taking a few punches is the price of being equal, and I'm not afraid to pay it.

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 03:32 PM

EXACTLY! If someone deserves a punch in the face, they should get a punch in the face, penis or not.

Well, I never hit ANYBODY unless they assault me first. I'm strictly a defensive fighter. Oh, well, there was that time I ripped my ex's shirt off of his back. Actualy, I did that quite a few times. Anyway, I wasn't afraid to scrap with him, and he was SIGNIFICANTLY bigger than me. Size doesn't matter though. Its all about your mentality.

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 03:40 PM

ah...an ex...and why exactly is he an ex?

He is an Ex because I dumped him like the sorry sack of shit he was. He was an alchoholic, plus he was mean to our son. I knew I had to get rid of him before I really snapped and did something that would send me to prison for many years.

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 03:44 PM

No, they themselves arent bad, but the way that some of them think is bad.

Sam The Egg 01-25-2004 04:01 PM

and you make generalizations on account of that. I would like to know if you thought this way before all the stuff with the ex happened.

bloodrayne 01-25-2004 04:06 PM

Stereotypical generalizations...Guess what...

ALL men are NOT the same...

ALL women are NOT the same...

Yes, because I had seen my Mother's expieriances with men, and knew how sleazy they could be. I saw lots of times where she was taken advantage of by them. A lot of her boyfriends would actualy try to get me to have sex with them while she was in the bathroom, in the kitchen, busy or whatever. And I was only 14 or 15 at the time too. Of coarse, when I told her, she would dump them, only to find another one who seemed to think in the same disgusting way as the last. 98% of them were sleazy like that. She was always saying "Are there no decent men in this world who wont try to screw my daughter when I'm not looking?" I must say that is the reason I choose to be celibate.

fluffho 01-25-2004 04:13 PM

so lets say all of these men were black

would you then make these generalizations about black people?

fluffho 01-25-2004 04:15 PM

you also have to ask yourself..

what sort of people are you and your mother attracting?

there is a reason why you these guys are magnetized to you/her... ... YOU... HER...

Of coarse not. Because race has nothing to do with biologics. Racial discrimination is based on their physical appearence. Men are men, regardless of race, but men and women are different for MORE THAN OBVIOUS REASONS.

Attracting? What do you mean? Most of them were business men. One was an insurance salesman, the other was a mortician. So, exactly what are you trying to imply?

PS You sound like one of those people who are into blaming victoms for a criminal's actions towards them.

fluffho 01-25-2004 04:21 PM

well there is a reason why we get along with certain people..

there are cliques in high school, there are people you are drawn to and people you arent

all im saying, is if this is all you came across. it makes me wonder. i attracted all sorts of guys, dumb smart, kick ass, losers.. everything

and when you say all youve been in contact with were pigs makes me wonder

dont sit there and talk so badly of men and remember every man was once a female (back in the womb) and dont even bring biology into it.

racism, sexism, generalizations do us no good doesnt matter if bio is involved or not.

Well, I CERTAINLY do commend you for knowing about how all babies are females when first developing. BUT The things I have said are true, in my expieriance. You can't dictate to me what I have expierianced, and what I have not, and how I should feel about those situations. I'm entitled to my opinion and I plan to keep it.

fluffho 01-25-2004 04:40 PM

well. if you really want to be a man hater then fine

i personally have better things to do than to be angry at people just for being who they are

not to mention i have a great bf that loves me very much :D

Hi DIZZLER

How many times must I say this in order to get it through you people's thick skulls?

I DO NOT HATE MEN I hate some men's attitudes and the way they behave. If I hate men so much, then tell me this, WHY am I constantly talking about Terry O'Quinn and posting his naked ass pics on this site? Yeah Ho', that really makes sense. By the way, I was disscusing this with Sam, not you. PS As for your boyfriend who "loves" you so much, I'm sure that if saaaay......Angelina Jolie walked up to him and offered to give him a blow job, he would scarf up on the oppertunity without even thinking twice about how much damage it would do to your relationship with him. That is, if he would even tell you he did it. A lot of guys like to lie about that shit. They firgure that your better off not knowing about it. Don't tell me about men, I'm older than you and have more expieriance with the subject. I used to think like you, then I woke up and started living in REALITY.
