Duke Nukem - The Movie

September 8, 2008

Max Payne producer Scott Faye has revealed to kotaku.com that he is planning to bring another maverick video game star to the big screen: Duke Nukem.

Faye is collaborating with publisher 3D Relms' Scott Miller on the project, and said: "I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world... as is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation."

The gun-toting, bleach-blonde antihero has been causing carnage on a variety of gaming platforms since his 2D, PC debut back in 1991, with two next gen console offerings in now the making, as well as the long-delayed PC update Duke Nukem 4Ever.

Faye, who runs production company Depth Entertainment, said he hopes to compliment these with "a Duke film scenario that will compel a studio to finance a feature version... Certainly, there's a large audience that knows and loves this character."

He went on: "We're expanding Duke's 'storyverse' in a very significant major way without abandoning or negating any element that's being used to introduce Duke to the next gen platforms."

With Max Payne due out this October, the producer also had this to say about possible sequels. "What more do you need to hear than Mark say he'd be interested in doing a sequel."

He went on: "I would imagine if the film is successful that there'd be a sincere desire to do a sequel. There have been no conversations about what the scenario would be, or whether we'd look at the Max Payne 2 game. Hopefully, this film will find an audience."

They should totally get Bruce Campbell to get right into shape and play the character who he largely inspired the modern incarnation of...won't happen, will never happen. But hey...I'd see it.

i just shat my pants.

I'm about as excited for this as I am the new rambo. this is fucking awesome. Duke is the man.

urgeok2 09-12-2008 08:01 AM

the guy sounds like Bruce Campbell ... but he looks nothing like him ...

casting would be a challenge

The Mothman 09-12-2008 08:10 AM

Have you played Duke Nukem 3D?
first of all, if you havnt, you must, its a ground breaking, phenomenal game.
I've been familiar with Duke since elementary school, and i could tell you right now, Bruce Campbell doesn't fit. I'm sure he'd make it awesome none the less, but It wouldnt be the Duke I know and love. they just need to cast some huge roid monkey.

"Release date: The day after Duke Nukem Forever hits the shelves"

This is what I anticipate. I'll beleieve it when I see it. If they do to this what they did to doom, i will personally castrate the director, screenwriters and producers. It will be done with a butter knife.

if it's at least as half as good as that magical film Dungeons and Dragons, then i can't wait to see it !

Well, it remains to be seen. We'll see how Max Payne turns out, but apparently Courtney Solomon was not available...

He must be out using his mothers money to purchase film rights to another beloved product from a company that is financially wrecked and grasping at any straws that come their way in a pathetic effort to not fold.

Oh, and if it's a QUARTER as good as that materpiece, ill be , like, sooooo happy.

The funny thing is, done right, it will be a movie that shamelessly rips off one liners from other movies, and we will love it for it. :)

Duke's lines are almost all from movies. He didnt exactly coin "Hail to the king, baby" 5 years after Army of Darkness came out ;)

Angra 09-18-2008 09:42 AM

The Rock got the lead role in Doom, soo.... my bet would be him.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 09-18-2008 10:28 AM

Bruce Willis

The Mothman 09-18-2008 10:49 AM

the rock would never make a good Duke. As much as i love Bruce Willis, im not sure if he fits the role either. Too old, not buff enough.

Phalanx 09-18-2008 11:44 PM

Could be just me, but I think the man who largely inspired the character could pretty much do this...

But Schwarzenegger don't do movies anymore.

Despare 09-19-2008 07:42 AM

Dolph... with a voice over.

I would have said Daniel Craig (no, really!) but I'd say if he's in a videogame movie it HAS to be wolfenstein.

Bruce campbell and Roddy Piper were probably the 2 biggest influences for the character. I completely agree with despare on Craig as Blaskowitz, he completely looks the part.

I think Mr Dwayne "the rock" Johnson would look silly as a blonde, so he's out. Bruce willis... nah, doesnt quite fit. Bruce campbell probably could, but whoever does it has to be able to pull off that husky Duke voice....

Aren't those guys mentioned, including sir Campbell, a little over the hill for that role?

Besides, Dolph isn't bad ass enough. Jean Claude on the other hand...

I don't think so, Duke looked pretty damn worn. Aged beyond his years for sure...

Well, if we're looking for a washed-up has-been to play the part, why not Roddy Piper?

That would be CULT!!!

Dolph isn't all that washed up, he'd be perfect for a straight to DVD Duke (I can't see it being a wide release but I could be wrong).

Yea, but we're not talking straight to video here. We're talking BIG screen.

So... bye bye Dolph.

Vodstok 09-19-2008 11:24 AM

haha for even mentioning van dam... If Duke was an effeminate foreigner who could do the splits at the drop of a hat, he'd be perfect. Especially if he had that burned-out i had an amphetamine addiction look.... (duke, that is. Van Dam already has that look down.)

Despare 09-19-2008 11:33 AM

If we're talking big screen only and they want a decent name I would guess they would at least approach Viggo Mortensen. I think he could pull off the look and the voice just fine.

Interesting suggestion.... He seems capable of anything that gets thrown at him...

What about Kurt Russell?

LMAO

True, there's nothing he can do about his accent. But i think he's capable of getting into the Duke character.

Yea, a little Snake, a little "Soldier" and a little "Death proof". That should do it.

Doesn't Bruce Campbell have the same problem?

Thought he looked pretty damn cool in Death Proof tho.

Vodstok 09-19-2008 12:10 PM

i think if they use a flashbulb to light him, yeah he'd look pretty crappy, but with some makeup and a good workout...

Goldie Hawn still thinks he's a catch...
