Scientists have now confirmed what good guys always knew: bad boys get the girls.

Researchers have shown that across cultures it really does pay to have a mean streak - with callous, self-obsessed, deceitful men proving the biggest hit with the opposite sex.

The findings, reported at the Human Behaviour and Evolution Society meeting in Kyoto, Japan, may help to explain why anti-social personality traits, known as the dark triad, could have an upside: a prolific sex life.

"James Bond epitomises this set of traits. He's clearly disagreeable, very extroverted and likes trying new things - killing people, new women," said study author Peter Jonason of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

"It is universal across cultures for high dark triad scorers to be more active in short-term mating," said David Schmitt of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, who also presented preliminary results at the same meeting from a survey of more than 35,000 people in 57 countries.

He said such people are more likely to try and poach other people's partners for brief affairs.

Jonason and his colleagues subjected 200 college students to personality tests. Jonason found that those who scored higher on the 'dark triad' personality traits tended to have more partners and more desire for short-term relationships, according to the study highlighted by the New Scientist magazine.

But the correlation only held in males. The study shows that women who share the same personality traits do not enjoy the same success with the opposite sex.

Nice guys, however, need not lose all hope. Earlier studies have shown that while girls tend to like cads for flings, they usually settle down with more caring types.

Well it goes to show you, women love to be treated like garbage....until they get married, and then its the guys turn.

this has always been a real source of interest for me.

i have seen many times - people going through life like bulldozers, plowing over anyone and anything in their path.

i've wondered how amazing and pure life would be if you were able to completely turn off any social conciousness, have not a care for anything in the world but yourself, take what you want when you want it regardless of who you hurt...and still sleep soundly at night.


i think these guys go right to their grave thinking they've lived properly too... i dont think there is ever a time where they look back and reflect that they actually were bad people.

i dont think they're really happy though - because they are never satisfied, or at least not for long. there must never be a sense of contentment. They are always looking for more, more more.

so yeah - i guess these guys finish first ... a pretty hollow achievement considering there is no race.

What the chicks dig is confidence - and typically the assholes of the world are supremely confident.

But this study is bullshit. I got laid A LOT in my twenties - which was when I finally figured this out (still do get laid a lot, but now it's with the same woman) and I've never been mean spirited or even remotely decietful, simply confident (maybe a bit cocky or arrogant, but never mean).

Meek guys are typically nice, but the ladies don't want to fuck the meek guy - it isn't because he's nice, it's because he isn't bold enough. But you can be bold without being cruel... and it works EVERYTIME:D

Well I could have told you that women love assholes.The more a guy treats a women like garbage the more she wants to be with him.Thats a proven fact.

I know of at least 2 people in my life who are total losers even when they were / are supremely confident. They are homeless and jobless today. (regardless to say, lady-less too)

Confidence isnt the only factor which attracts a girl. There is something about a mean guy - his assholic tendencies, his rather quirky "humorous" way of looking at things the cock-eyed way - which is usually a lady-magnet.

Also, the source. A mean guy almost always either A) has lots of money, or B) has some sort of power. Which is the reason of him feeling confidence in being an asshole to anyone and everyone.

It's easy to see - the douchebags usually have a girl wrapped around their necks more often than not.

I say about 50% of it is confidence, and the other 50% comes from seeing an asshole treat another person like shit, while he is unable to do anything in return...which wets a girl's panties.

I do know many who like the "bad boy" type. It's all about the challenge for those girls: that they may be able to change, or that the bad boy will be willing to change for them. With those girls you'll get the same typical refrain, "You really don't know him, he's so sweet when it's just the two of us." Blech!

But not all chicks are like that. I've been with the bf for over 5 years, and he's the typical nice guy. And no, I wasn't all "used up" before we got together. :p

when he's not drunk and beating the shit out of me ...

you know .. the 3 or 4 times a month when he's actually home.

What really annoys me the most is that alot of girls complain about there boyfriend.they say "I hate my boyfriend he treats me like shit."
Then you ask then why do you stay with them?

And its always the same answer "Becasue I love him."

Then stop fucking complaining.

Freak, those girls either don't know what love is, or they are in an abusive realtionship. If it's the latter, they're only gonna be able to realize it themselves. The more you tell them, the more "in love" they'll become because they think you're picking on their bf and want to protect him more.

What they fail to mention is that the "nice guys" often hang out with the "bad girls."

It's confidence that's sexy. Honestly. I can't stand meekness or self consciousness that overwhelms a personality. AND I can't STAND whiny guys who complain, "Bad guys always win..."

self confidence in a woman is very sexy also - sadly you dont often see it until a woman is older. (which is why i always dug older women)

on the other hand arrogance and sociopathic behavior - often mistaken for self confidence - is human nature at it's ugliest ... in either sex.

it's kind of hard for a woman (or young woman i guess) to be confident isn't it? there's society all around us telling us that we need to be a certain way. if a woman isn't how most are portrayed in magazines and such their shunned...or just don't have really good selfesteem. and most of the time guys are intimidated by smart woman...at least the ones that aren't smart themselves.

and isn't there a kind of double standard here? it's okay for a younger guy to date and older girl and even an older guy to date a younger girl. but it's considered perposterous if an older girl dates a younger guy. anyone else notice this? it's sad in most cases, but i guess the years of listening to my stepdad bitch about it have gotten to me. personally, i think his opinion isn't worth shit, but his views on life still piss me off to no end.

I say true confidence comes from being your own self, what you are. And its true, that societal standards dont always permit a person to be themselves (hence the need of donning a "mask" at least half-a-day), but I have noticed a very uncommon fact - people who are themselves are the most satisfied and contended ones in life. ALL others are always on the lookout of more...some more...money, power, relationships, women (in case of men) etc.

And about double standards - surely it was a thing of the past. With women lib getting strong claims from all over the world, and the decrease in the say of the Church and dominant males in our society, I think any sort of relationship (as long as its a healthy one) is generally acceptable. Lately we have grown to accept lesbians and gays, haven't we? I think most people have become very liberal and broad-minded in that particular aspect.
