Wish me luck!

Today is day 1 of no cigarettes. I'm using the patch to help me through it. This is about my millionth time trying to quit, but I think I'll be successful this time because EVERYONE in my house is also quitting. My nephew is using the patch and my sister is going cold turkey (she has high blood pressure and is afraid to use any supplements).

Sis and I are going to Flavor Fest on the grounds of the PA renaissance faire, so today should be pretty easy.

Wish us luck!

All the best, HF!!

I really want you and the fam members to quit smoking...and I KNOW you can do it. :)

Ferox13 05-24-2008 04:04 AM

I've gone over 13,000 days without a cigarrette - not that hard.

Nearly 5 hours with out a beer too.

Just be strong.

That's awesome, H! Good luck! I know that when my mom was quitting smoking, the gum really helped her, too, so if you have the oral fixation, just something to consider. :)

You can do it.

novakru 05-25-2008 03:23 PM

Just get pregnant.
I found out I was pregnant with my son, stopped smoking immediately and haven't picked it up since:)

ferretchucker 05-25-2008 03:34 PM

/\ Worked with my sister.

ManchestrMorgue 05-25-2008 11:55 PM

Good luck with it.

Studies have shown that using NRT (eg patches/gum/etc) gives you a better chance of quitting than going cold turkey.

They worked for me.

If you were a reasonably heavy smoker and don't have any significant cardiac problems, you can use gum as well if you need a bit "extra" to get you through particularly bad cravings. Might be worth considering if you find it hard going with the patches.

roshiq 05-26-2008 12:21 AM

I tried once. Though it was only for a month...but I realized I can do it anytime, so I started again.:D

Anyways, best of luck to you & your family members.

ferretchucker 05-26-2008 03:08 AM

I was told that lolly pops are meant to help as well. Dunno if it's true though.

I did get a big bag of lollipops - they're helpful when I'm driving.
