What do you REALLY think about cops

I'm curious :)

(and no not the show)

alkytrio666 05-07-2008 05:28 PM

Honestly, they scare the shit out of me. Nothing is more frightening then police brutality, and I rarely come across a cop who isn't on some kind of power high.

I think they're necessary, but sometimes the amount of unquestionable power they have scares me genuinely.

neverending 05-07-2008 05:36 PM

As a hippie in the 60s and 70s I hated the damn pigs, but now that I'm an old fart and the world seems like a much scarier place than it did 35 years ago, I'm bloody well glad there are cops. There are people out there that are a lot scarier to me than cops are and I'm glad there are people out there who are willing to put their lives on the line for me.

Abuse happens, and brutality happens, and I don't like that- but I sure as hell wouldn't want to do away with police. And I don't care who thinks I'm an old-fashioned pussy because of it.

missmacabre 05-07-2008 05:50 PM

cops here are stupid and get half price coffee. The can have it though. (im seriously so pissed at coffee haha)

^^ Pretty much how I feel. We have one of the most scumbag police forces over here they've been hit with a bunch of rape charges and even shot up a street to try and kill a dog.
You should've seen the army of pigs they sent to bust a AA gig I went to really fuckin' pathetic.... told them that too. Someone was probably being attacked at that moment in the city while they were intimidating 15 y.o girls.

20 or so years later and the MDC song I Remember is still dead on and relevant to what's going on.

pinkfloyd45769 05-07-2008 05:58 PM

Most of the time they suck, the ones here anyway. They never come when you need them, and they are always around when you don't.

newb 05-07-2008 06:11 PM

I have nothing but respect for most of them. Its a thankless job...most of the time dealing with the scum of society for a meager salary.

not to mention that my father was a cop for twenty years....so what can I say;)

The_Return 05-07-2008 06:38 PM

I have no reason to dislike them...never had any real experience with them though, good or bad.

Despare 05-07-2008 06:47 PM

Depends on the cop. I've known great cops, real good guys. I've also known giant assholes drunk on power. The smaller the town the worse the second one seems to get, most of the "good guys" I mentioned first transfered to other divisions because of the bullshit politics and crooked jerkoffs. I KNOW in big cities there are tons of ahole cops but there's usually enough to keep them busy. Give me an Ann Arbor or Detroit cop over a hick town sheriff any day. Like religious freaks and teenagers, a few real shitty examples of the group can forge somebody's opinion on the collective.

Roderick Usher 05-07-2008 06:57 PM

having been arrested several times (a few earned, but a couple of times completely unwarrented) I gotta say they're just like the rest of the people on this planet... a few reall good guys and gals drowning in a sea of opportunitic assholes with delusions of power and entitlement.

Elvis_Christ 05-07-2008 06:58 PM

Well put Mr Usher

Disease 05-07-2008 07:01 PM

From my experience, they are assholes, they don't want to help, they can't be bothered with the paperwork...

They might be quicker to help if you bribed them? :D

It's a shame your probably right..

Staplez 05-07-2008 07:12 PM

Depends. Ive meet some who are pretty cool guys. Also meet some who are assholes.
Like anything else, as many cops as there are theres bound to be some dicks in the bunch.

VampiricClown 05-07-2008 07:31 PM

One of the cops in my town got arrested for having child pornography on his computer. So I must say, I don't like cops.

urgeok2 05-07-2008 10:37 PM

i've never had any problem with the police.
then again - i dont do anything wrong.

only time i see them is when i get caught speeding (my fault - so why would i get mad at them ?) or when i play volleyball with them.

like others have said - i'd sure hate to live in a world without them.

and like others have said - they're people. there are going to be good ones and bad ones - just like any other profession.

but i think bad teachers have caused more harm than any bad cop ever could.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 05-07-2008 10:52 PM

we need robot cops god damnit!

it's the year 2008, where the hell are the robots?

Honestly, if I saw a fight break out with the H.A and the cops, I would be cheering for the H.A. They're charming until you piss them off atleast, cops are bastards 24/7

The STE 05-07-2008 11:20 PM

They can be dicks but they can be useful. I'm occasionally not as quick to call brutality than others (fuck him, the "Don't tase me bro" guy had that shit coming), but people are often hypocritical and abusive of whatever bit of power they get, and cops are people with guns.

A lot of teachers and cops are unequipped to deal with problem/at risk kids. Both can be heavy handed/complacent and just make the situation worse. Bad parenting and poverty are factors too. I hope a lot of the shit I saw in schools growing up doesn't go on anymore some teachers were just sadist bullies with over reactive discipline. But on the other hand some were fantastic at what they did.

ferretchucker 05-08-2008 06:53 AM

They used to get the job done. If they knew that someone did it but didn't have quite enough proof, so what if they planted something, 99% of the time they were guilty. Now, they have to fill out 50 forms before they can give you a good talking to. It's not entirely their fault (although I was pissed when I saw the police station full of police cars last Friday Night.), it's the system that won't let them do anything.

ive never been arrested (althoug i did plenty of shit when i was 15 to warrant it), and have never been pulled over when i didnt deserve it, but, i completely agree with this assessment. I have nothingbut respect for the mantle of Cop; they are necessary. Also, i tend to think of cops as good until i am proven differently, but then that is how i try to apporach most people.

Phalanx 05-08-2008 07:00 AM

I think generally they're ok, with a larger image/public perception (like any group) that can be spoiled by a minority.
I don't have any "problems" with them, but more than likely because I don't dress and/or act like a fuckwit/the kind of person they'd deem attention-worthy.
Sure, there's been incidents - but that stuff was always my own fault.
They've been of assistance when required.

Overall, neutral...I'll start hating individuals if and when neccessary.

Doc Faustus 05-08-2008 07:01 AM

I respect cops who might get shot. Cops who have no chance of getting shot I can't respect as much.

jenna26 05-08-2008 08:12 AM

Well, I don't trust them.....but that's pretty much because I don't really trust people in general.....;) I have never been arrested, and I have pretty much "behaved myself" .....for the most part.... But when I was a kid, we lived in one area where many of the cops were just completely out of control. And another where they were so damned bored, they were just looking to give people a hard time.

Like others have said, I certainly wouldn't want to live without them, they are necessary. I believe there are decent cops, cops that want to do good, and help....I also believe that becoming a police officer can be very attractive to a certain kind of individual. Its a position of power, and like ALL positions of power......it can definitely attract people that are more about abusing that power than anything.

illdojo 05-08-2008 09:57 AM

Fuck tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority

Fuck that shit, cuz I ain't tha one
For a punk muthafucka with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell

Fuckin with me cuz I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics

You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rollin in the Benzo
Beat tha police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water

I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down and grabbin his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin out for the white cop

Ice Cube will swarm
On any muthafucka in a blue uniform
Just cuz I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young nigga on a warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dyin in LA
Yo Dre, I got somethin to say

Fuck tha police!!!!!!
:D

And what's so screwed up about it, there are drugs, shootings and rape all happening in my town, while the cops sit at the gas station and give people tickets for going down a road that barely anyone goes down, while some are sitting at home jacking off to children being molested!

The Mothman 05-08-2008 02:25 PM

They shut down my favorite venue,
They maced a bunch of kids at a show I was at,
tackled my friend and gave him assault charges for slapping a cops hand away as he reached for his wallet to see his ID.
fuck the police.

that song is freaking sick.

"I remember getting intimidated and busted at age 13 by the police.
I remember my friend Tate Bryan getting shot in the back in Tampa, FL for his first-offense burglary.
I remember the police firing at the crowds and killing children cause they were the wrong color.
I remember the narcs from my high school trying to set me up for a big fall.
I remember the police bringing dogs into our school and sniffing away my rights.
The police is the klan is the mafia and they're out for me, and soon they're going to be out to get you, so you better get going if you know it's good for you and take your stand."

beats being one of those people who walk around department stores trying to catch people shoplifting.

(they're outside - get to walk around, spit on, etc.

hey, what the hell, if people weren't inherintly assholes, there would be no need for cops, meter maids, or security guards.

but because so many of us feel that it is worth the risk to break the laws - play the game - they end up hating the people who bust them for it when they lose.

doesnt make much sense really.

Dante'sInferno 05-09-2008 06:52 AM

My Grandpa was a Sherrif. So I never really met any mean cops. They all helped me when I needed help.So I don't really have a problem with any of them.

Despare 05-09-2008 06:57 AM

It's nice when everybody has good experiences with police but I've seen them be some major pricks. I watched one group of kids get pulled over and searched, their truck taken apart (tires off, doors apart, the works and their cell phones were taken so they couldn't call their parents), and when nothing was found and no ticket could be written the kids were handed back their phones and cops left. Unfortunately for the group of teens they had no tools to put their vehicle back together which the cops just left in pieces on the side of the road.

_____V_____ 05-09-2008 07:10 AM

Pretty much everything has been said already...I ll just narrate an incident which happened awhile back...

This guy at the place I work was pretty much a regular, dumbshit geek who did his job and went back home. One fine morning, the cops barge into the office and demand to know who he was (by name). When pointed out, they come runnin over and beat the shit outta him in front of all of us, and literally drag him out of the office into the waiting police car outside, all the while kickin and stomping on him. He was a bloody mess by the time they lock him up inside the car and drive off. We all watched, flabbergasted.

Next thing we heard was he was accused of giving shelter to some illegal Mexicans and Asians and that they had hardcore evidence of him having guns and stuff at his home. He was in the lockup for a week, where they beat him to a pulp.

Poor guy didnt have enough to get some legal help for himself, but seeing his track record, the boss asked one of the company's legal advisors to do something for him. The advisor took some time in collating with the police and the investigators and found out that the real suspect was the guy's neighbor, not him. They had the wrong address on their comps and had gone ahead according to the addy the police comps had thrown out.

Because of that technical glitch, the guy needed 36 stitches on the nose right between the eyes, about 6-7 stitches on each eyebrow and eyelids, 4-5 stitches on both cheeks and plenty of blows and whacks on his entire body.

Next morning, they released him. The advisor asked him to go to court and sue em for damages, but he declined. Took him about 2 months to recover sufficiently to come back to work.
