My Dog Died

Last night, I was on the computer, and my dad called me outside. My dog Spookie, was hassling really heavy, his left side was swollen up a lot, and his feet were swollen as well. We have no idea as to what actually caused this, but he died between 3 and 4 this morning. He was about 14 years old. That dog was like a brother to me.

:(

hammerfan 04-01-2008 06:16 AM

Sweetie, I'm so so sorry to hear this. (((((VC)))))

newb 04-01-2008 06:18 AM

That sucks big time dude. Very sorry to hear it:(

Despare 04-01-2008 06:23 AM

It's always tough, even more so when the pet has been with you for so long. My condolences.

Dude Guadalupe 04-01-2008 06:24 AM

That sucks man, sorry to hear it.

Papillon Noir 04-01-2008 06:25 AM

That sucks :( It's always hardest with pets as they can't tell you if they're not feeling well or anything and so sometimes there is not much you can do. I'm sorry.

Disease 04-01-2008 06:31 AM

Sorry to hear that, it sounds like he might have been bitten by something, do you get snakes around your way?

jenna26 04-01-2008 06:37 AM

bloody_ribcut 04-01-2008 06:38 AM

We do, but it's a bit too cold for snakes. I was able to see my breath last night. And to my understanding, dogs have somewhat of an immune system to snake bites. We had a dog once that got bit in the face by a snake. Her face got really puffy, but she lived.

Our first thought was maybe that he got in a fight with the local coyotes, but there was no blood. Maybe he ate some ants? There were no ants in his vomit.

Every time he drank something, he would start throwing up. It was long, white and stringy. Pretty much just his stomach acid, though some of it had a brown tint.

None of it really makes any sense. :(

hammerfan 04-01-2008 06:54 AM

VC, it sounds like he was poisoned somehow.

neverending 04-01-2008 06:54 AM

So sorry to hear of your loss. Dogs become such a part of our families.

We thought of that too, but I don't know of anything around here he could have eaten to have poisoned him. Unless a person did it, but even that wouldn't be likely. We live in the middle of 40 acres, with horses and another dog, and we have electronic gates and barbed wire fencing around us. Not to mention, we pretty much know all the locals.

Sounds like his liver failed on him...

Sorry, bud. I have lost 3 dogs before Rolls and I know how it is.

Rolls is 10 years old now...so I was sorta taken aback by the title of this thread too.

bloody_ribcut 04-01-2008 07:15 AM

my cat had the same symptoms before she died, i was thinking somone poisoned her with anti-freeze or maybe it was the flu.....

Dante'sInferno 04-01-2008 08:47 AM

Im sorry man.Best wishes to you.

Phalanx 04-01-2008 09:03 AM

Ugh, the situation is fucked...makes my stomach turn just to think about it.
My dog died around 2-3 years ago now, and I'm still weird about getting another one...had him for around as long as you'd had yours too, makes the experience that much more painful, they're not pets, they're family members.
I'll be getting a memorial inked when I've got the money.
Don't know if there's any advice here...sleep when you feel like you cant do anything but think about it? Probably a lot, but it gets you out of the day.
Nothing really more I can say.

ferretchucker 04-01-2008 10:03 AM

I've never had a dog but I have had quite a few animals with untimely deaths. A guinea pig who got Cancer, A cat which got Diabetes and in the end had to be put down, a mouse who had a heart attack and another who kept scratching it's face to the points that it had no ear and it's face was just scabs. We had him put down. Sorry to hear about your loss. Look it up on the internet or speak to your local vet about it.

I know. And he's a fairly large dog. We've owned him all 14 years of his life too. :(

illdojo 04-01-2008 01:02 PM

Man, that sucks. Losing a pet is a terrible feeling. Sorry to hear about your Dog, VC.

Psycom5k 04-01-2008 01:03 PM

VC, you probably still have me ignored, so maybe somebody will tell you for me, but, I'm very sorry to hear that. I lost my dog a couple years ago, he was 16. I know how you feel, it sucks. I had my dog since he was a puppy, and it really sucks. But when they get that old, they start getting sick easily, and they normally have problems walking and moving. I know it sounds harsh but when they get to be like that they are better off. But if you think about it, you've only lost your physical connection with them.

Freak 04-01-2008 01:28 PM

Sorry to hear that VC.I know what it feels like.I know that when the dog I have now dies I'll be completely crushed.

Posher778 04-01-2008 01:33 PM

Sorry Vamp. I dread the day my dog goes... It's like losing the only truly loyal thing you've got :( My regards

ChronoGrl 04-01-2008 03:01 PM

That really sucks, VC. Some people don't understand how an animal can really be part of a family. You grew up with him. I'm sorry for the loss.

Here. Have a severed finger. They always make me feel better.

The_Return 04-01-2008 05:07 PM

Wow...thats rough man. Sorry to hear about your loss :(

Zero 04-01-2008 05:08 PM
