HDC Oscar Awards 2007-08

We did have the first (and big) version of this awhile back, thanks to Tic. And since the Academy Awards were completed yesterday, it is only befitting to award the best in the Horror Genre in the past year by us, the folks of HDC. This will be following the Academy Awards pattern for the categories.

I will be your host, and hence will not participate in the voting. You, members of HDC, will vote for the best in each category as you deem fit...and the nominees with the most votes will win in their respective categories.

In case of a tie-up in votes, I will gather together a jury of 5 best minds in HDC who have been in touch with the latest horror, and take their opinions, which will count in the final tally.

So...lets get the ball rolling...

What gives you the right to decide which film is in each category?! Huh?!

But yeh, I'll be voting.

The unconditional backing of HDC in projects such as this.

Besides, the choice of nominees came from several extensive researches into threads in the Modern Horror and Upcoming Horror Sections such as - ChronoGrl's thread, Last Seen Movie thread, discussion threads...and some threads in the General Section too.

Also taken into account was IMDB reviews, forum discussions at IMDB, Bloody-Disgusting, Fangoria etc. So as you can see, I have been working rather hard at this.;)

Still, if you have a nominee other than the ones listed above in a particular category which can replace the original, feel free to PM me.

ferretchucker 02-26-2008 09:56 AM

Wow. You really kinda whammed me there. But still...you...I...YOU EAT SPIDER POO!

_____V_____ 02-26-2008 10:08 AM

Remember the last date folks - 08th March, 2008.

Hope to catch all of you with yet another fantastic HDC project's results soon.

Yeah, we know how it goes.....YOU do all the work....we like it that way....hahaha....;) I haven't seen all the nominees yet, but I will see the ones I can soon, and then do my best I suppose.

Freak 02-26-2008 10:55 AM

Another fine thread V.Honestly your threads and tournaments and overall hard work to keep this board alive is a major part of what keeps me coming back day after day.If it wasn't for you this board would have died long ago.

I'll be sending my votes in soon by the way.

Also do we pm them to you or just post them here or...?

The ONLY thing I would do is put Fido up there for best horror flick, only because I thought it was better than Behind the Mask. I wouldn't vote for either though. ;)
Good job V, expect PM.

newb 02-26-2008 12:14 PM

As per usual...another fine thread from The Mighty __________V_________

I haven't seen all the movies nominated but will try to do my best in voting.

massacre man 02-26-2008 12:39 PM

So are we PMing our votes to you, sir?

_____V_____ 02-26-2008 07:09 PM

You can either PM me or email me at [email protected] (indicating your screenname here and subject - HDC Oscars 2007-08).

Thanks, guys. I knew you would wholeheartedly approve.:)

So...grab the DVDs from Deep Discounts or bump them ahead in your Netflixes and send me your choices!!

Edit - Already received 2 lists with some really good choices. Keep em coming, folks!!

Bub the Zombie 02-26-2008 08:40 PM

Another great idea, mate. Expect my PM soon.

GorePhobia 02-26-2008 11:48 PM

My votes have been cast.

I will possibly be a presenter.

When would it be? Time and Date because I am leaving for ND to see my gf on March 3rd and will be home the 13th then the Monster Mania Horror Convention is the 14th-16th. For the most part I will have internet access.

Got it, Gore. Also received PMs from Massacre Man and Fortunato.

About the ceremony...well...it depends on the responses I get till 08th. I am thinking March 09th, in the morning, especially because our overseas friends had a bit of a trouble staying up for the HDC Awards last year. This time around, it will be in the morning our time (rejoice!).

On a final note, HDC Oscar Awards 2007-08 are being sponsored by Neverending Wonder Radio. They will have something special lined up for the ceremony thread on the 09th, I am sure.;)

GorePhobia 02-27-2008 04:41 AM

Alrighty well I should be able to be on the 9th and do a presentation or two.

_____V_____ 02-27-2008 10:09 AM

I have received 5 lists of choices so far - Massacre Man, Gorephobia, Fortunato, Bub the Zombie & Papillon Noir.

We have clear winners emerging in at least 6 categories already. So take some time off, and get busy on your recommendations for the HDC Oscars!

Kane_Hodder 02-27-2008 07:18 PM

I keep forgetting I have to PM you the blurbs too.
Expect a PM anytime over the weekend.

Disease 02-27-2008 07:40 PM

Well it does seem like the Oscars with only a select few movies being nominated through out many categories....

Disease 02-27-2008 08:16 PM

So when are the Oscars?

_____V_____ 02-28-2008 04:01 AM

Somewhat of an update...

8 lists so far (including Despare, Disease and Roshiq last night), and already we have a surprise leader in a much-fancied category.

2 categories are having very tough battles for supremacy...

Keep em coming folks! This is going to be a very interesting HDC Oscars year, thats for sure!

_____V_____ 02-28-2008 09:15 AM

You can all have your safe bets and guess, but you will NEVER guess who is leading for Best Director.;)

(Of course its 5 guesses, but it isnt your 1st one, or your 2nd either):D

Hmm...The Best Visual & Sound Effects has a surprise leader too...

Doc Faustus 02-28-2008 09:19 AM

I think Tarantino/Rodriguez are probably picking up a lot of steam.

GorePhobia 02-28-2008 11:31 AM

Yeah I'd have to agree with Doc.

Would you guess that they are getting a REAL run for their money? The Best Director category stands at a TIE right now, btw. So also does Best Actress.

Close battles for Best Supporting Actor and Original Screenplay.

One thing is for sure...for those of you who thought Grindhouse would be sweeping everything...boy are you WRONG, and HOW!:D

GorePhobia 02-28-2008 10:13 PM

It's all good. I am glad it isn't sweeping everything. There was some good movies and performances this year in horror so it's all good in my book.

Kane_Hodder 02-29-2008 04:13 PM

Hey _V_ did you get my email?

_____V_____ 02-29-2008 05:24 PM

Yes I did, Kane.

13 lists of votes so far...keep em coming, folks! Looks like there will be quite a few surprises in store for the much-fancied nominees.;)

GorePhobia 03-01-2008 01:12 AM

V just so you know I think you're the best thing to happen to this forum.

You always find ways to make everyone involved and it's just great!

Aww thanks Gore. I am just doing my part, really.:)

Halfway mark till the deadline of March 08, folks. I need more of you voting in this...so put your Oscar jury cap on and decide your winners!

Disease 03-01-2008 08:26 AM

I think Sweeney Todd may be the suprise here...

You're very welcome, sir.

_____V_____ 03-01-2008 05:53 PM

**Update**

According to the 14 lists of winners, (I say winners because you have chosen YOUR winners, folks) the HDC Oscars stand like this :

Best Film - You all can safely bet which one is leading this...

Best Actor - No surprises here either...

Best Actress - This is a hot little two-way battle for supremacy...let's hope a clear winner emerges by 08th Mar...

Best Director - is a TIE right now...

Best Supporting Actor - A leader with an un-clear edge...

Best Supporting Actress - Same as above...

Best Visual & Sound Effects - Again, no prizes for guessing this one...

Best Cinematography - Another hot two-way battle for supremacy...

Best Original Score - Guess this one, and you get a lollipop...

Best Makeup - See above...

Best Original Screenplay - is another TIE...

Best Adapted Screenplay - A leader who stands every chance to lose...

Best Foreign Horror Film - This looks good for the leader...so far, that is...

Plenty of time left till the 08th of March. Keep em coming, and lets see if clear winners emerge in all categories. One thing is for sure, the results so far largely haven't gone as per predictions of most of you out there.

Catch you soon with another update. Keep sending me your votes!

Disease 03-01-2008 05:57 PM

Wouldn't thry be going they way most of us predicted if we have voted for them and they are winning though?

Not totally, if you are a very good guesser based on your set of winners.;)

jenna26 03-02-2008 07:21 AM

I don't think I am going to be able to vote in this, I can't see Sweeney Todd yet, and I have a feeling it would sway several of my votes.

I think you should, although I know you dont want to be biased in your judgement, jenna.

Its not necessary or imperative to see the movie in question...you can go by critics, performance and gut-feelings alone.

Okay....I will then, at least I have seen most of them. Now I wish we had driven a bit to catch a showing of Sweeny Todd dammit....;) We really need to move to an area with a bigger theater....

Bub the Zombie 03-02-2008 08:49 AM

Must say I am a bit surprised at the ties for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. This is going to develop into a very interesting outcome.

GorePhobia 03-02-2008 09:01 AM

Looks good so far. Hopefully you can get atleast two or three more people in before the 8th.
