In movies, do you root for the good guy or the bad guy?
 

I admit I love villains. They have more freedom of action. I admire the way they do whatever the hell they want. And what fun would a movie be without a really evil bad guy?

But I also have a deep sense of justice. So in the end, I want to see a badass, larger-than-life, ass-kicking, name taking good guy thrash the living shit out of the villain.

Vigilante. best of both worlds. he's a good guy but he's going against the rules to provide justice so he's a bad guy too.

Agreed. V(from the comic and movie) is a badass.

I also love vigilantes' or just the guy that bends or breaks the rules while still being the good guy.

Good answer. The vigilante. The loner. The amoral hero who seems caught in circumstances beyond their control.

But, honestly, it depends on the movie and the characters. Spiderman 3, for example. I cheered for the bad guys. Because all of the good guys were lame.

Usually I root for the good guy.

I love the everyman. The ones that aren't necessarily "Good" or "Bad," but are heroes on a more microcosmic level.

Example: The Dude of Big Lebowski and Lester Burnam of American Beauty. Two of my all-time favorite everymen.

I wasn't sure who to root for in the Phantom of the Opera because the Phantom was kick ass and a bad guy but he obviously loved Christine and Raoul was a good guy and loved her aswell but was kind of a pompous ass about the Phantom. So they were both good guys and bad guys to me.

If the villain is good then I'll want the "hero" to win or at least see the bad guy get what's coming to them. Like Harry Powell, Stansfield, or Nurse Ratched... I was so happy to see justice done in those cases. Speaking of Stansfield, Leon was a great anti-hero.

it depends on the bad guy. If they're a traitor and a smart ass then i usually root for the good guy. But if it's someone like hannibal then it's the other way around.

Depends on the villain for me as well, mostly I would say I root for the good guy. I WANT to see a nasty villain fail in the end. Yes, I certainly do.

But I do prefer good guys that have a little bad in them. Anyone that is TOO good is just not all that interesting in a film, and they often aren't all that realistic either. I want my good guys to have flaws.

I also don't like good guys that are too moral. I like the idea of saving people, but not only going into battle themselves and that. I also prefer if the good guy is thrust into the situation, and doesn't do it by choice.

I don't think Dude is my favorite "normal guy", but I did REALLY like him. I'd say I liked William Foster from Falling Down or Peter Gibbons from Office Space better though. I guess it all depends by what you think of as a normal guy though. Is Paul Kersey a "normal guy" in Death Wish? What about Ash or John McClane? Normal guys in normal situations that create excitement are usually harder to come by than normal guys in extraordinary situations.

Depends on the movie and the badguy really.

But i'm a sucker for happy endings, so i guess i mostly root for the hero although the villain nearly always is the most colorful and interesting character in the movie. :)
