Book-to-movie translations
I don't recall if we've discussed this already, but what is the best book-to-movie translation, as well as the worst?
|
As far as horror goes I thought that the Dead Zone movie was excellent of course you cant go wrong with Christopher Walken, some of Kings books are hit or miss when they make a film out of it. The Mangler I understand was horrible although I felt the story was excellent. Other novels made into movies I always have mixed feelings about, with the exception of Lord of the Rings I dont think the transition has been done well in a long time. I would love to see a movie made from the one of the Bachman books, The Long Walk, I know its a bunch of guys walking and all but I think it would make an interesting story, it would have to be bloody though. Not to be on a Stephen King kick but Running Man was one of the worst films (my Opinion) of all time when compared to the book. Even the Governator couldnt make this film for me.

In my opinion, the worst was Running Man...I'm not really sure about the best...I haven't really been that impressed with the way the books are butchered on the screen...I guess Red Dragon wasn't too bad, if I had to pick one

We must have had the same thought at the same time...Of all the movies in the world, that's funny...I guess it must run in the family...LOL:) |
"Queen of The Damned" was transitional murder. I'm not sure about the best because I'm afraid of books most of the time.

barker's novella 'hellbound' transformed itself fairly well into hellraiser i thought.
|
Wow, I really liked The Running Man. Haven't read the book though.
The best and worse for me have both been Clive Barker stories strangely enough. Cabal was brilliantly filmed as Nightbreed, but of course Barker directed it. And Rawhead Rex was atrocious. It could have been SO much more. |

Ah I did read "The Hellbound Heart" and would like to agree with that also that would kinda of be 1.5 movies because "HR 1& part of 2" came from that book, kinda. I didn't read "Cabel" but "Nightbreed" is on my top 5 list.

the running man was so awful it was brilliant. just look at all the one-liners coming from that film.
my particular favourite was 'that hit the spot' |

my all time one-liner though is from christopher lambert in highlander; "hey! it's a kind of magic"
sorry, i'll stop hi-jacking the thread now. |
