The new Drinking Thread

I looked and looked for the old one, but I found nothing.....

So I'm starting a new one, simply because I love talking about beer and whiskey!

I got a bunch of these this afternoon, only 50p a bottle, Do you american folk drink it much?

I don't mind it, it reminds me of a few Australian beers, kind of like Tooheys extra Dry but not as crisp.

Nikkif8 09-06-2007 09:21 AM

Hey D, nice to see you on the same time as me for once.

For the record I hate Miller beer Yuck!! Hope you are enjoying it though. I am at work, so no beers for me for another couple hours! :(

newb 09-06-2007 09:22 AM

Disease 09-06-2007 09:33 AM

Disease 09-06-2007 10:17 AM

You can't do that Lime and salt flavoured beer!

Corona is shit anyway!

AmericanManiac 09-06-2007 11:28 AM

You just had to make this thread while we are at work  I personally don't like miller, i'm a budman myself.

jaybomb 09-06-2007 01:04 PM

more of a sam adams beer drinker or killians irish red:)

Angra 09-06-2007 03:13 PM

I'm having white wine....

Roderick Usher 09-06-2007 08:55 PM

Drinking a Bass Ale right now:D

And I LOVE American Micro Brew Ales and Bitters like Wild Goose, Stone, Sprecher, Bert Grant, Anderson Valley, Bob Tupper, Harpoon, Mendocino and Rogue breweries. All great stuff.

As a highly educated beer nerd I can say without equivocation the America makes some of the best beers in the world (on par with England, Germany and Belgium) Please don't hold Bud, Miller or Coors against us...that shit is the byproduct of the post-prohibition industrialization of the beer business and a clear violation of what beer is supposed to be:

fresh, local and ever-changing

Psycom5k 09-06-2007 09:50 PM

I'm more of a Labatt Blue/Heiniken/Bud/Corona(with lime, no salt) man, beerwise.... liquor on the other hand.... Captain Morgan, Jose (hes my best friend :) ) Jack Hennesy SoCo Jager.... i love jagerbombs.... man... im starting to sound like an alchy....Purple mofos.... thats a mixed drink incase ya don't know... but right now its just Labatt blue

I've heard that Ales is really good, from many different people. I have never seen it around here in these parts though. I will have to look for it when I go out of town. Oh yeah what about Iron City ? Anyone ever had that? I love trying new beers though so keep some suggestions comming, thanks.

Liquor my favorite is Crown Royal(I could drink a 5th by myself in a hour), Captin Morgan, SoCo.

I think I may be doing a little drinking tonight :D

I still like Corona and Rollin Rock.

Disease 09-07-2007 11:04 AM

I tried one of these ales this afternoon, pretty nice it's from Yorkshire, it's also linked to some crime writing festival.

Old Peculiar is a fine ale and from my home county too! If you liked that try Wobbly Bob if you ever have the good fortune to stumble across it :)

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...zpier/1286.jpg

I used to partake of both Wobbly Bob and Old Peculiar on a regular basis in my youth, nowadays i'm partial to the finest Irish stout ...

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/guinness.jpg

Disease 09-09-2007 10:49 AM

I had plenty of Guiness on Saturday, five pints in 2 and a half hours while I watched The mighty magpies cruise through to the semi finals.

Is Wobbly Bob a hard one to find?

Disease 09-09-2007 10:52 AM

I'm missing this one from back home, but the choice of different ones to try in the U.K is making up for it some what...

horrorchic 09-09-2007 10:53 AM

schrecher is okay, but I am a guiness girl. Irish red is nice and thick too. But if all else fails Schaeflys.

Yeah,it's brewed by Phoenix in Manchester, you may find it at a Beer festival but alas I don't think you can find it in pubs any more. From what I can gather it is only brewed once in a blue moon ...

The supermarkets and bottle shops seem to have a good range though, that's where I have been buying most of them...

I might have to make a trip to Cardiff and visit the Brewey.

Not much of a beer drinker, though having an occasional bottle's rather nice after a hectic day, when I don't feel like getting plastered out of my mind with vodka or tequila or some such.

I did find Budweiser quite watery. Guinness was some improvement. Recently, whenever the whim strikes to buy beer I go for darker ones like Baron Trenck, Herold Bohemian Black & Grenat Lager, Synebrychoff Nikolai Dark Lager and good dependable Old Tom, or whatever interesting new ones happen to be there.

Have no idea what whiskey's like. Anything close to cognac? sherry? port?

Generally, I prefer red wine. Speaking of something smooth from Italy, ever had Lambrusco? With the lower alcohol content, you can pretty much chug it like beer. :)

illdojo 09-09-2007 12:31 PM

I'm more of a Vodka man myself...... http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...homerdrool.gif
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...dojo/goose.jpg

When I do drink beer I like Guinness, Newcastle, Harp, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

missmacabre 09-09-2007 12:43 PM

I'm a sucker for the sweet stuff. Coolers mmmm and strawberry wine

Don't like beer much but beer with rootbeer schnapps is yummy.

Ever had Zubrowka? It's beautifully smooth.

AmericanManiac 09-18-2007 11:06 AM

Tried some Foster's the othernight, because of Rod's photo at the lighthouse. Not to bad of a drink either.

Angra 09-19-2007 10:10 AM

Me too, these days. Love Butterscotch schnapps.
I don't like beer much at all. Rum and coke is usually my drink of choice. Though, I love tequila, I try not to drink it too often these days. But when I am really cutting loose, nothing like a few tequila shots...lol....
