I've seen haloween 3 recently. I personally don't understand why they took a left turn and ditched Michael and went with robots and things like that. I wasn't a bad movie but, I think they should have given it a different title. It shure wasn't a haloween movie.

Posher778 06-06-2007 02:10 PM

^^ Yes it was.

The original idea was to have movies where the common factor was Halloween, not Michael Myers. They confused people when they released part 2, since it was a continuation of the first one. So actually the third one just went along with the original concept, and I personally would have liked to see them continue it. I like a couple of the sequels, but still think it would have been better to end the Myers storyline with the first one. And I like Halloween 3, it has been unfairly trashed just because it wasn't what people were expecting.

Near Dark is one of the best vampire movies ever made, in my opinion, despite the trite ending and Black Christmas is also a great movie that doesn't get enough recognition. The others I even haven't seen, or I personally didn't care for.

Actually, I might be wrong about this.....I thought the intent after the first one was to continue on with movies that took place on Halloween night, then they decided to kill Myers off for good in part 2, then continue on with the other stories, but because 3 bombed, the plan changed....but I can't find where I read that. Did anybody hear or read this? Or am I remembering wrong?

Oh well, anyway, I really like a film called To Sleep With A Vampire, which was a remake of a film I have yet to be able to find, not sure I can say it is underrated, because it isn't all that good of a film, and it stars Scott Valentine  but it is one that no one else seems to have seen...LOL..;) And its a good story I think.

The Mothman 06-06-2007 03:12 PM

Haha, nerd.

XjarreckoX 06-06-2007 04:14 PM

I actually liked Friday 5. The story was pretty good for the series and the killer(at first) kept me guessing. Once I saw the copy cat make that "glare" I knew he was the killer.

Wensday13 06-07-2007 09:03 PM

Id like to ad.....
Raising Cain
Horror Hotel
Hour of the Wolf
Die Monster Die
Redneck Zombies (if you like bad movies this one raises the bar)
The Tingler
Carnival of Souls

stubbornforgey 06-07-2007 10:26 PM

another couple..

idle hands
BLACULA
SALEMS LOT
jeepers creepers
what was that movie with that theme song
purple people eater '???
Happy birthday Ronnie
Basket case
asylum
the blurbs
I'spy

Nikkif8 06-08-2007 07:09 AM

One movie that always stuck with me that I thought was just wierd as hell and something about it creeped me out was Motel Hell, and I assume it is pretty underrated.

Someone talking about Salem's Lot made me think of it the other, I may have to find it soon.

Hethwheel 06-09-2007 11:35 AM

What about Stuart Gordons "Dolls"?

Many commentators have said its a very underated film.

Hethwheel 06-09-2007 11:38 AM

And I'd add Renny Harlins "Prison" to this list.

A wonderful film, IMO. Even spawned a ripoff called "Shocker" which was good too.

Hethwheel 06-09-2007 11:44 AM

Actually, while I was mentioning J Carpenter in another thread, I remembered, "They Live". It deserves so much more respect. Heard whispers there's a TV series planned after all these years and Roddy Piper is involved.

stubbornforgey 06-09-2007 12:59 PM

For some ungodly reason
John Carpenter movies don't do much for me..

Blasphemy!

mordrid 06-11-2007 12:29 PM

Dolls is one I would add the underrated list. Another I would add is the movie Freaks from the 20s I believe. I have seen it twice. Very interesting flick that never got the respect it deserved.

swiss tony 06-11-2007 12:37 PM

nobody ever really goes on about event horizon but i absolutely love it. i just got exorcist 3 a while back which is forgotten about too a bit

mordrid 06-11-2007 01:19 PM

Exorcist 3 is a good movie if you take out the fact it was part of the Exocorist series. Event Horizon I completely hated. Not sure why, I just could never get into it.

I so wanted to love E H but I've watched it three times now and it still naffs me off - I dont know why. It's like it could be better, it could be nastier, scarier, something? But it just ends up........... silly!!!

Sorry!!

Now yes, Exorcist 3 - totally underrated film - very clever how they pulled back from the atrocious sequel!!

Yes, Motel Hell - that film is wickedly funny and horrible all at the same time! It creeped me out too!

I was passing some time in Soho, London in about 1903 and ended up watching it then.

Well..... it *was* along time ago!!!

Hethwheel 06-11-2007 03:05 PM

Thought Event Horizon started out brilliant, ran along well and then that F**king ending.

It just wrecked the head completely. Visually it works and the atmosphere and potential for shocks is done well. But the core concept of the movie and how its revealED towards the end, just wrecked it. (opinion only)

Freaks ('32), one of my favorite horror films, very disturbing and just all around a great film.

Event Horizon, I watched it only once, actually saw it in the theater, I think and I hardly remember a thing about it.

swiss tony 06-11-2007 04:01 PM

judging by the responses and coupled with my own opinion of EH i should really put it forward in a most overated movie thread. i clearly am holding this movie up way above everybody else thats seen it. oh well, sod you guys, i'm right and you're wrong.:D

Hey, I might have loved it and just don't remember loving it....;)
I think it is time for me to rewatch it.

Oh and as far as underrated goes I would like to add Ravenous, In the Mouth of Madness (yes, I like it dammit), Lord of Illusions, Nightbreed.....and one of my absolute favorite movies that very few people seem to talk about very much.....Videodrome.

I highly agree. I am a huge Carpenter fan and this movie should have gotten some kind of award. The mental state that the main character goes through is insane!

Nightmare on Elm St. 2......hell almost any of them. It is always nice to sit back and watch a movie that you do not need to constantly scramble around the plot in your head, you know?? But mainly 2 for me, I found it just as disturbing as the first one.

Wensday13 06-11-2007 07:56 PM

Ive always though the 2nd Nightmare was as good as the first one. Alot of people dont agree, I love it though. Freddy was as sinister in the second one as the first.

Im not gay by the way, not theres anything wrong with that.

Ive never enterained the gay notion concerning this film.
