Just say no to diets. Eat everything you love, just less of it. If you deny yourself things, you'll just end up giving in to your craving at some point and eating 10X more. Oh, and if you don't want any of that good food in your kitchen, let me know what time I can swing by ;):p

Phalanx 05-07-2007 11:36 PM

I don't place too much credibility in too many diets.
It's more about knowing what to eat, portion control, and excersizing after eating things you KNOW are going to put weight on you.
Increase seafood/meat ratio.
Don't cook the fuck out of vegetables.
Stay away from saturated fats...chips are evil...
Save money - Less takeout, more "Real" shopping.
Eat lots of ginger, fruits, and salad items - which don't count if smothered in oily dressing or mayo.
Remove skin from chicken.
Investigate various wholemeal/wholegrain breads
\Use cholesterol lowering spreads, instead of butter.

...Above all...learn to cook...not assuming anyone here in particular doesn't, but when you learn a few things, you learn lower fat/healthier equivalents, and how to make an otherwise average meal, quite good, "healthy" or otherwise.

Another thing...those things you really want? Those junky disgusting calorie pumped, fat saturated, sugar filled things you crave...take time to eat them, once a week, make yourself want them even more. Use it.

Fuck your set diets, work within your own perameters, if you really want to lose whatever weight you need to, then you won't REALLY have the problems doing so...it's only when you're not really driven about it that you fuck up.

Above all - Drop soda, diet or otherwise, immediately.

AmericanManiac 05-08-2007 04:05 AM

I don't exercise, and I eat what I want all the time. I do however drink about 6 green tea's a day, I think that is what keeps me "skinny":D

Phalanx 05-08-2007 04:42 AM

Green tea IS meant to be pretty good for you.
Cleans the blood, good for the BP and liver function...lots've anti-oxidants.
It's the same thing as black tea, just picked earlier and more dried, than cooked. I try to regularly drink green/jasmine (I think the jasmine makes it taste a little better) tea, in fact, there's points where I'll completely substitute all hot drinks with it.

However...sounds more like you've just got a fast metabolism...

stubbornforgey 05-08-2007 04:45 AM

I hate diets!!!

Em not a big eater anyway..in fact em very sparratic with my eating habits
and this is why (i am told)..I am gaining weight.. :D
oh and the odd pizza..3 days a week..with my coke..along with my meat pie and snickers is also contributing to m dilemma.
'whispers..and my love of laziness' :o

meetthecreeper 05-08-2007 07:29 AM

Stop drinking soda. Too much sugar and sodium. I used to drink way too much soda, like a 2 litre a day. Drink ice cold water, alot of it.

I lost 30 pounds by doing this. Of course I have peaked at my weight loss and cant seem to lose anymore weight than I already have. I do cardio and 100 crunches a day(THEY SUCK!!!!!)

I tried South Beach. Pretty simple and you eat alot but sooner or later the junk creeps its way back in.

novadawn969 05-08-2007 08:28 AM

Really simple diet, and I lost every inch of fat off me:

-no processed sugar
-no caffiene
-no carbanated drinks of anykind
-and try to avoind any deep fried foods

It really wasn't that bad.
I was hooked on some of this crap, and now that the weight is gone, I'm so used to not eating these things that when I do, I don't eat it often enough to gain anything.
Loosing almost 30 pounds was worth it.
Believe it or not, that's a lot for me.

The STE 05-08-2007 08:30 AM

I never bothered with dieting

Nikkif8 05-08-2007 09:11 AM

I have been wanting to lose 20lbs or so and it is so hard. I never feel like working out and I am definately the type that needs to work out at least 3-4 times a week. I used to work out everyday for 5 years when I worked as a fitness trainer at a gym and now I slack. I eat healthy but I tend to eat late at night before bed which is bad and I think my portions are a little bigger than the should be, plus the beers the evil beer calories add up. Exercise and healthy food in healthy portions is the key.

novakru 05-08-2007 09:12 AM

This is from experience...
Get alot of bloodwork done first.
Check your thyroid, adrenal glands and lymphatic system.
Make sure you're not allergic to gluten or other foods (cow's milk, soy, etc.) as well.

I lost a pile of weight really fast after the baby (oh yeah, you KNOW I was loving life:) ) and then started gaining an astonishing amount of weight within weeks (bloated tick comes to mind:D ).
Turns out the changes my body went thru during pregnancy really screwed my system up.
I ended up with adrenal fatigue and I am gluten intolerant, even though I have never had any problems with bread products before.
The funny things babies do to our bodies:eek:

Oh course I had other symptoms but didn't notice till I got FAT:D

Also: I looked up a bunch of diets on-line and the best, most-healthy was the Macrobiotic diets.
I can't get on this until I stop breast-feeding but it will be something I will do because of the anti-aging factor alone!

Macrobiotics is great. My sister-in law does this and I have taken a lot of recipes from her. It is not hard and it makes a lot of sense.

AmericanManiac 05-08-2007 10:18 AM

Try this, my mother lost about 5-10lbs just by switching her daily beverages. Drink nothing but water. I normally drink nothing but green tea with citrus(sp), salad, and grilled/baked chicken. Once a week I have steak to reward myself.

Shadow 05-08-2007 12:35 PM

I am happier after changing my diet. I have cut out fast foods, snacks and fizzy drinks (well I have the odd diet one but the aspartame is evil) and have learned to cook proper meals. I have lost weight and am almost half way to my target weight :D Its difficult sometimes when you have to always check your food and you cant eat out with friends. It has been worth it in the long run I feel better and I hope to increase my fitness in order to climb the beautiful mountains that look in through my window, without having a heart attack lol.

Posher778 05-08-2007 01:10 PM

I've never had any problems at all. You honestly don't have to change your eating habit significantly, just exercise on a routine basis. I just do marching band, which is extreme cardio (way more than most people believe, look it up. It's more pressure than football/soccer/etc)

stubbornforgey 05-08-2007 02:43 PM

Healthy stuff make me sick.
If i want healthy i would join a healthy spa..

FYI...Men lose weight so much easier than women:mad:
But yeah, that's a great start. I agree, diets SUCK. I have been REALLY sticking to one for a couple of months now because I don't want to look like a cow wearing a bridesmaid dress in my bestfriends wedding in a few months, then I have my own to worry about next June. So yeah, I have been pretty good, but it's so hard sometimes! I have also been doing personal training which is exausting, but I know it will pay off.
My best advice to you....make sure you have a set "cheat night" once a week and stick to ONLY that night. It will keep you sane;) I am currently looking forward to Pizza, buffalo wings, and beer for Saturday night:D

CHeat night is a good thing. Sometimes it turns into cheat week though.

I know! that's what I meant by me actually sticking to it. I was having Friday night cheats that went all the way til Wednesday....not so smart:o It's hard when you have no disipline what so ever.

Too late, a lot of money is already spent! Haha...I may not be able to commit to much, and we may "break up" once a week, but when there's money involved it's a WHOLE nuther situation:p ;)

Hi, btw.

Exactly.....I haven't had a coke since New Years eve and I've lost 54 lbs. Of course I am back in the gym 5 days a week and cut out MOST of the crap I use to eat. :)

Hey there Doll Face, long time no hear from you.....I know, I've had a coke for breakfast for the last 35 years and probably drank at least 2 liters a day. It is the thing I miss most since I started this diet new years eve :(

I thought I was the only one that had a coke first thing in the morning....:p I have been drinking green tea now in the mornings, on the recommendation of a friend. Can't say I am lovin' it though...........I've cut back to about a can a day....if I am bad 2.....if I'm good sometimes I can avoid it altogether for a day. ;)

Shadow 05-11-2007 02:59 AM

I don't drink many fizzy drinks, never really have, so when I have a diet one now its like a treat. I don't like the word cheat so I will use treat hehe, I have a treat night just to keep me happy. You appreciate a slice of pizza and a pint of cider (drools) more when you don't get to have it all the time.

novakru 05-11-2007 04:51 AM

I am totally slacking on eating right lately but I did notice when I was eating really healthy and then ate something at a fats food place-I got sick.

Last year we ate out alot for about 3 weeks and I actually started to CRAVE Burger King burgers.

You can get addicted and un-addicted to crap food.Just remember that.:)

mordrid 05-11-2007 06:50 AM

Diets do not work, period. Once you lose the weight, if you dont exercise and keep eating healthy, you gain every bit back. Changing how you eat and exercise is the only way to lose and keep the weight off.
