Worrying Censorship Developments At Hdc
 

There suspiciously does not seem to be a straight answer forthcoming in the other threads, so let us ask here:-

Is omcdave banned? If so, on what grounds?

Furthermore, it appears some if not all of his posts have been removed from the forum entirely.

What is the justification for this?

I don't believe this member - unlike some others - was intentionally rude, pornographic or an aggressive troublemaker. He wasn't even sarcastic.

It is generally agreed that some of his posts might have been silly, but then the same goes for many other - unbanned - members of horror.com. Far more offensive and banal entries have been allowed to stay on the forum, and their posters go unchecked.

Is the establishment executing its right to remove (all trace of) any member it deems 'unsuitable' using some dubious excuse of his 'excessive posting' or typing 'not what people want to read'?

If this is the case, it is extremely disappointing from a community which has been known to boast about its diversity, tolerance and broad mindedness when it comes to discussing horror and other subjects.

I believe more than one complaint was made against him for some of the stuff he had been doing on here and behind the scenes. Also, he and his cohorts have been filling this place with total nonsense since they joined. Till November-December last year, he wasnt posting anywhere else except the General Forum, not to mention opening countless threads of idiocy and filling other threads with stupidity.

When pointed that he wasnt posting anything related to "contribution to horror" by The Flayed One, he started frequenting the Asian movies and Modern movies sections and added some information about Asian stuff. Knowing the fascination us movie-goers have for asian movies these days (since Hollywood has gone drastically down in the Horror genre) he was lauded for it, but actually most of his recommendations were lifted from sites such as upcominghorrormovies.com and hkflix.com et al. (How do I know about it? His posts regarding a particular movie matched the reviews in those sites by other people) I doubt the guy himself took any time out to watch the movies he actually posted about.

And lately he has been doing some stuff which went beyond the transgression of the mods. I am sure if they removed him they had enough evidence and complaints lodged against him, and in subsequent investigations, they found a lot of proof to back those complaints.

Maybe if BR or Zwoti or whoever did the banning clears it up, then everyone would believe it. I am just voicing my thoughts as to what might have happened.

And I applaud the mods for being so tolerant of the fellow and giving him more than one chance to be a good standing and contributing member. Many other excellent members protested and left in disgust, but the mods still let him stay.

It was a severe loss to the forum when so many good contributing members left in protest because their complaints against him werent being heeded upon. Its a classic case of one apple spoiling the whole barrel. I doubt if we will ever get those good members back again.

I'm sorry I've been working 12+ hour days and haven't had a chance to post before this. Dave and company are some strange and scary people who were harassing and freaking out female members. When I came in here brand new and knew absolutely nothing about what was going on and who was who, Dave was very welcoming. I received tons of p.m.s welcoming me and encouraging me to visit "his" J horror board along with a lot telling me who the idiots and jerks were from the old group and how he and his friends were simply being abused for no good reason. I also got them from Trippin, who seemed another very nice and welcoming member. It seemed he doth protest too much about how he was the glue who held this site together, but I honestly thought he and a couple of his cohorts were like that loud, drunk aunt at the wedding who embarasses and annoys everyone, but are basically harmless.

As I was on the site more and more, I noticed that they were simply stirring crap with every member they could. Any, and I do mean ANY, topic was cause for a meeting of the minds with this crew to see how they could agitate. The Yahoo messenger burned alot of bandwidth for them to come up with ways to harass and irritate anyone and everyone, but especially the mods and the people who had been here any length of time. That was their point for being here. Nothing else. It was all about irritating people they felt had wronged them. They would hop on new people after the first post and try to get you to defend them and what wonderful, wronged people they were.

I made the mistake of getting into yahoo with Dave one night when he said he wanted to talk to me about something. He started a multi-chat, pulling in several cohorts whom I had not spoken to on or off the boards. One member activated his webcam on which he, pretty regularly, shows his penis. I was not the first invitee to this little show. Apparently several underage girls who frequented the site had also been invited at one time or another prompting the "why being a pervert pedophile is okay" speech. I believe there were warnings, etc. at that point, to which they took great umbrage. Well, if a 14 year old girl wants to look at a 30-some year old man jerking off, why should HDC care that that's where they were targeted...prudes!! They were pictures of men....err...at the completion stage of....pleasuring themselves being sent around. I declined and logged...fast and left them with the thought that if they sent me a picture of that nature, they had better keep a copy because after what I would do to their testicles, they would need it to remember when their plumbing functioned.

Of course this was followed up with a post on the boards about how much he enjoyed our conversation, then 4 or so p.m.s about how he sincerely hoped I wasn't offended. They are just open minded and a little wierd and like to talk about sex. Since then I haven't been on this site because, frankly, with this bunch of freaks and perverts I figured I would just go gently into that goodnight and say the hell with this place. I mean, between the boards being loaded with them posting the most inane drivel on purpose just to try and ruin the board, what's the use of fighting the uphill battle.

For those that defend Dave and think his posting idiocy is not bannable, think again. How many people who would be good, fun, knowlegeable contributors to this site never even bother to register because a quick trip through the boards is nothing but vapid drivel and constant conversation about why certain people shouldn't get banned? The only reason I made it that far was that it honestly seemed to me that this was not approved of, in general. Do you think that people posting endlessly about how they want to be banned and how they are just assholes, they can't help themselves and they will do it again, is really a good way to attract people you'd ever want to talk to?

In addition, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been invited to these little parties from here, then harassed here for saying, okay you sick freaks, if you all want to sit around all night and look at each other's schlongs, have a ball, but leave me out of it. I'm pretty sure the mods have a long list. Especially since I didn't even contact the mods.

Censorship sounds very scary and Orwellian and everyone goes into apoplexy about how they are being repressed. What's worse is when you have a small number of people, most who have been banned before (and are exploiting the lack of an ISP block) come back under another name to create trouble and basically kill the board to settle old scores. They were already banned and came right out and said I'm back under another name to cause trouble. Banning is the only possible option.

As for Dave and everyone being against him because he's Korean and can't spell..err...Dave has been in the states his whole life. He graduated from school here and he lives in California. He's just illiterate. I'm sorry, if you can't sing, don't stand up at karaoke and if you can't spell or type coherent sentences, stay off of boards where coherent writing is a prerequisite!!

That's pretty creepy stuff. And a totally different side of Dave than the Dave I knew of.

Wonder if if it's a group of Pedos who's found together here at HDC. Brrrrr.... Scary to think of..

Exactly. That's why I posted this. I mean, I'm an idiot for ever having talked to them. I'm a grown woman and dealt with it. The mods, however, can't come out and say alot of things that I'm sure have been reported to them because they are protecting the people who have had to deal with this junk. They have to protect people from this crap without divulging the details. It's unfair and insulting for people to run around second guessing their actions when they have ZERO information on the majority of what's going on. Either trust that the mods would have gotten rid of this lot a long time ago if they were the type to abuse power over a personality conflict and that to do so at this late date is a sign there is more than meets the eye or go somewhere else, but don't give them what they want by ruining the board in their stead.

Well blame me, not the mods. I didn't tell them so they couldn't have done anything about it. There's also the level of who flung what and hearsay. Of course, after multiple people report, the preponderance of the evidence leans towards the fact that they are freaks. They took action as soon as they could, I'm sure.

I doubt that. A forum is basically an expected part of any web community nowadays.

We had no one who was willing to come forward and give proof, and we definitely weren't going to pressure them to...Most of these people are 13-16 year-old girls who were hurt, confused and terribly embarrassed...You have to understand that...

So...We just waited until we had a reason that you guys could understand...Dave kept within the lines on the forum, always sprouting sunshine, when behind the scenes he was spewing his hatred...He kept from giving us a clear definable reason for banning him that could be easily explained to the forum...He played a very good game

We COULD have taken him out at ANY time and just told you guys that it was none of your business, or just not responded to the forum's questions AT ALL...But...We don't do that here...We're always honest with you guys and we respect the wishes of the forum as a WHOLE...Majority rules

Bloodrayne and other mods, as far as I'm concerned, you should ban whoever you want. You don't need to make it into a legal case. Yours is the responsibility to keep this place functioning reasonably well. If we don't like it, we can leave. Ban whoever you want for whatever reason, and feel no need to explain yourself or grant due process. Those who can't stay on topic (i.e., horror) here can always find a more general forum on which to discuss whatever they want.

Well,I just hope he never comes back to HDC!

Well... alarming stuff to say the least.

You of course have to be careful of directing words like paedophile around the internet because of slander and defamation. It was a little unclear from AsylumSeeker's post the level of Dave's involvement in any unappropriate behaviour with minors, but I think it's fair to say that with his alleged harassment PMs and apparently dubious agendas for 'chatting' that he had become a prominent but increasingly undesirable member of this forum. He used to PM me a lot as well, but nothing sexual... honest. :D

not really a pedifile though that term is used alot but if you take a psych 101 class you would know the pedifile is when they like the boys and girls before they are developed so 14 year old girls would not fall into that catagory more like predater. unless this term has become broader in recient years. not that that makes it ok

he was always nice to me never had any idea something else was going on

also would like to apologize to any one offened by my posts and threads about this banning didn't know enough info and i hope that the people effected stay here or return to HDC

It took a lot for you to come forward with this, Asylum, and I am truly appreciative of you informing the others about exactly what happened. If its of any consolation you werent the only 1 who was affected by that group. Next time if any of this happens, I urge you and others like you, to come forward and report it to the Mods. In BR and Zwoti we got 2 of the best...not only mods but like older members of the family who will listen to you and will take action. I hope Asylum's post is an eye-opener for all the affected others, and for the Dave & his cohorts supporters too.

We lot here at HDC are a great community, and some of the older members who have left are some of the best informed critics of the horror genre you would find anywhere in the world, much less on the Net. I have come to learn a lot from em and I miss their inputs now.

But still we have a core group which are very informative about anything and everything. Sure we do have our goofy and angry moments, but still we lot have stuck together through shitstorms like this before. Like we have survived this ordeal, we have survived others before this.

I can vouch for the core group and myself, that you wont go through such sickening stuff from any of us. Lets work together in re-building the site all over again, so that when a new horror fan registers, he can expect a lot of positivism from this place, and get it equally too.

i just logged on after about a couple of weeks of relative inactivity on this site to find this thread. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!! absolutely appalling stuff. for the record, dave PMed me about horror, asian in particular, and was incredibly friendly and welcoming from day one and never behaved in an inappropriate manner. but then, i'm not a teenage girl. on dave's HDC friends thread he started recently he refered to me as someone he liked and i don't think i took the time to respond, thankfully. i hope no one, particularlyBR and zwoti, lumps me in with that crowd. i had no idea. i just thought he was a talkative fella with too much time on his hands but...HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!
i think a lot of people will be feeling the same as myself; that someone we were semi friends with has pulled the wool over our eyes. the funny thing is, like chaibill, when i started reading this thread, before i got to asylums post, i was mentally preparing a defense i was gonna post for dave. BR is quite right in what she says about him playing a good game. he had me fooled. finally, good job asylum seeker and the others that were brave enough to come forward. although, i do think the idea of making this a sticky as a warning to others will do more to advertise our beloved site as the haunt of paedos. the mods are doing a great job watching over the place as it is.

My opinion on this situation, well it is really disturbing. He seemed like a nice guy to me, like someone said you can never tell. It's perfectly understandable for us to be sensitive, and a bit cautious after what has just happened...But, sometimes a little levity helps to bring us back to normal (well, HDC normal)...We can't allow what has happened to change the entire tone of our forum and how we respond to each other

Wow! A lot has happened here since last week. It really shows that anybody can have a dark side and not all villains (or in this case sexual predators) are easily marked by black mustaches curled in their fingers, black top hats, and tying women to railroad tracks.

I'd like to thank Asylum for coming forward and sharing her experience and letting us all know part of what was really going on. I'd also like to share a conversation that I had with Tripp a few months back and that I think his behavior then relates to what was going on.

When I was new here he had PMed my me about my user name and had invited me to talk with him on yahoo messenger about movies. So I did and the conversation went quickly to flirting with me and sending me pictures of himself (just his face, nothing sexual) and wanting to see pics of me.

Well I told him I had nothing to send him so he asked me if I had a boyfriend and I said yes. I asked if he had a girlfriend and he said no, not really. I told him that that was usually a yes or no question and he said he sort of had a loose long distance relationship. I asked if she was in the military or something and he said no that she lived in Indiana and was 20 and a virgin and that they were engaged to be married and he was totally in love with this girl! If you had a fiancee they are usually not referred to as a loose long distance relationship in the very last preceding line in the IM.

Needless to say the conversation ended after that, which was my first and last with him. Now this conversation doesn't seem to completely cross the line, but after hearing why these people got banned, I can see where this conversation could have quickly gone and follows in line with that type of behavior. I just thought you all might want to know.
