shock me!

if your life depended on shocking someone who'd led a sheltered life with the sickest fucking movie what'd it be? i'll take the passion. p.s. hoping to comprise a great database of grisly shit. thanks! :D  :D

Despare 04-27-2007 07:18 PM

I would probably have them watch Aftermath which is brilliant but would probably shock most people. The lack of dialogue makes it more disturbing than most of its kind. I like Cerda a lot and personally NEED to add this one to my collection (and Awakening which the new movie The Invisible reminds me of...).

alkytrio666 04-27-2007 08:11 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Nekromantik.

I had trouble deciding between that one and Aftermath (necrophelia really shocks people it seems) and I thought that Nekromantik was a little too much of a love story. Aftermath really shows no emotion which I feel makes it a bit rougher of a watch.

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 08:35 PM

Salo...those who havent seen it yet, watch it.

A great disturbing pick. It depends on the person too, I would find out what they really get upset by first heh.

I think 98% of the people who watch it will get revolted in one way or another.

Leaving the 2% out for the pedophile populace, who will love it I bet.

Do you think that movie was the one that most disturbed you? The beginning of Irreversible (at the end) was disturbing because of the end (at the beginning) but for a different reason. One could make a case for the tasteless, thoughtless, and talentless "Faces of Death" flicks too if you consider those to be movies (which I don't).

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 08:54 PM

The beginning of Irreversible was shocking, but the overall repulsion of Salo is unmatched. Its something which is not normally associated with...that age group. Just the things which roll on the screen one after the other takes a real rigid mindset and a tight stomach to sit through it. Irreversible isnt all that through and through.

Meh...the Faces of Death "documentaries" werent that great. I read somewhere that most of the deaths in that series was faked, so I dont regard em highly anyway.

I'd have more respect for them if they were fake and said it... it takes more talent to create fake death then it does to simply point the camera and press "rec". So far we have...

Passion of the Christ
Nekromatic
Salo
Aftermath

(that's my order of least to most likely to be played to "disturb" somebody).

Add Mordum to it. Thats a sickfest too.

I guess I could disturb people with Scrapbook too...

Oh, don't forget about I Spit On Your Grave, that will upset the layman.

Roderick Usher 04-27-2007 09:16 PM

The Anal Girls Of Tobacco Road 2 : Vagina Slimes

Given the audience, 2 scenes from that movie will have them running for cover.

Slaughtered Vomit Dolls
August Underground
Guinea Pig series
The Baby of Macon
Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom
murder-set-pieces
Aftermath/Genesis
Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America
Irreversible
I Stand Alone
The Untold Story

Despare 04-27-2007 10:14 PM

The Flayed nailed most of them, don't forget Men Behind the Sun though.

Posher778 04-27-2007 10:20 PM

You know, these types of threads pop up all the time, but so do the same exact titles. It gets a bit repetitive, don't you think?

Anyway, i'd say Men Behind The Sun.

Unfortuanatly there's not really a lot of new stuff to add to it. Although some people might be more disturbed by something like Henry, people forget about that one because it isn't visually disturbing. Art of the Devil 1 & 2 both have some disturbing stuff and they never get mentioned... not on par with the others but both films are fun too.

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 10:26 PM

yup, there's the Mordum thread in page 1, and the Cannibal Holocaust thread in page 2, there was a most gorific thread not too long ago...

similar threads keep popping up, but hey, its all good as long as its horror.

:D

Despare 04-27-2007 10:31 PM

Has anybody seen the Mordum follow-up Penance? Does it belong on this list?

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 10:34 PM

Nah its a total waste of a movie. Dull mindless crap.

Despare 04-27-2007 10:39 PM

I'm trying to think of something new... something we don't talk about a lot lol. Seriously though, while a bit tamer Art of the Devil (2 especially) has some GREAT sick stuff in it. Throwing up eels, lizards tearing out of somebody's skin, cat eating... tons of fun. Well it wasn't my favorite but I guess you could say Kids was disturbing and what about Eraserhead? Everybody seems to get something different out of it but the baby and the dream sequences... it could be put on the "disturbing list" could it not?

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 10:43 PM

How about Schramm and Pink Flamingos? Oh and the Blood Feast movies of Herschel Gordon Lewis?

They can be included too.

For sure! Cronenberg's Crash, Bad Lieutenant (GREAT movie), Freaks, Female Trouble...

_____V_____ 04-27-2007 10:48 PM

Schramm was quite disturbing. It is definitely not a movie to be seen alone, as it can dent even the hardest of psyches.

Despare 04-27-2007 11:02 PM

Maybe Ebola Syndrome?

I've seen it (posted about it recently in the "August Underground's Mordum" thread...)

I would say it belongs here. It doesn't push as many boundaries as Mordum, but it is still sick and disturbing. Also, the visuals aren't intentionally degraded so you get to see more of what is going on.

_____V_____ 04-28-2007 03:17 AM

I thought it was just a re-play of Mordum all over again, with some more cheap gimmicks. Given that Mordum is the first one, I d go with it over Penance.

PR3SSUR3 04-28-2007 08:18 AM

Squirmfest
Psycho: The Snuff Reels
Mu Zan E
Wrong Way
Forced Entry

Though you might have trouble getting your hands on a few of those, due to availability.

Also, not many people have mentioned August Underground.

These films might push the envelope in terms of sleaze and 'gore for gore's sake', but for truly disturbing viewing you can't go far wrong with The Blair Witch Project, I Stand Alone and Schizophrenia (aka Angst).

I Stand Alone
Schizophrenia (aka Angst).

Excellent recommendations. Tetsuo the Iron Man, Un Chien Andalou, The Dentist 1 & 2, Requiem for a Dream are some more which come to mind.

If its horrific shocking you want, try the Japanese "The Eye" or "Ju On" and the Thai movie "Shutter". I gurantee you wont be disappointed...at all.

swiss tony 04-30-2007 12:25 AM

thanks for all the feedback. the movie i'm gonna go for first is AUM as it almost always comes up in these threads. irreversible was the movie that seemed to be recommended most in other threads but i watched it at the weekend so its time to add to the list. incidentally, the reviews i had before watching this movie were absolutely spot on. yeah its edgy, to say the least, but its also a very well made, acted and directed movie. i hope people don't think that the movie is a vehicle for the violence as i think it really enhances the rollercoaster ride of a movie that it is. if you haven't watched this movie, its of the highest quality. finally, i notice hostel is conspicuous by it's absence in this thread, and rightly so. so is cannibal holocaust, wrongly so.

crippler666 04-30-2007 09:27 PM

Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, is sick in places (no pun intended) not much of a story, but you wanted shock value.

Irreversable, has already been mentioned but can second that.

swiss tony 05-01-2007 08:33 AM

when i was a kid TCM was the big video nasty. compared to the hostel time has stood still. its much more shocking and a quality movie. perhaps the movies have gotten as sick as they can go.

Papillon Noir 05-01-2007 09:05 AM

I heard that Feed was pretty sick to watch, though I haven't seen it yet, I hear not to watch it while you're eating.

Also, I'd add Blood Sucking Freaks to the list and Last House on the Left is probably worth mentioning too.

Doc Faustus 05-01-2007 09:20 AM

The Manipulator with Mickey Rooney. It's really hostile to the viewer. He plays a deranged cinematographer who holds an actress captive who he forces to be in this movie he's making in which he plays all the parts and constantly talks to himself. Also, the Champagne Club is really disturbing, not in the right ways, but it makes you good and sick.

swiss tony 05-01-2007 11:41 AM

alright, thanks. getting a few new suggestions along with the usual suspects. plenty of brain candy there. i have audition but have yet to watch it. would it be in good company amongst the movies already mentioned here?

Mictlantechutli 05-01-2007 01:27 PM

Feed

not so much shocking as it is stomach-turning

PR3SSUR3 05-02-2007 03:47 PM

Amusing comment on another site about Feed:-

Nope - it was a fat suit - and a great one. It's in the special features of the DVD

This wasn't completly intended to shock,

But in 2002, I moved back to a smaller city in the country where I went to high school.

A girl I became good friends with through a chance meeting at a bar through a girl I only knew in year 7 because a friend from primary school used to go out with her best friend.............

so, we were both writers and hung out a bit from time to time, and I discovered she had never seen The Origanal Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

You see , she liked the macabre, she liked anne rice and poppy Z and so on.....

So I asked her over for drinks and we watch it, this was also to be the first time I saw it on dvd..

But I didn't realise that she would be so shoked about it... she asked me why I didn't warn her it was so horrifying?

Later after the movie we walked to the other side of my street and sat on the swings...

And we saw a U.F.O, no crap.

There was this light hovering above us, it looked a long way off, almost the size of a fingernail, and then it just seemed to shoot off up into the sky on a 110 dgrs North West, I think?
