i saw a youtube video on how some musicians are possesed.
they showed featured bands lyrics from rock to rap, everyone mentioning the devil and deals they made with him in order to become famous.
it was serious from a church's point of view and started me thinking,i just wanted to know what you guys and gals thought.

What do I think about what? the devil?

yeah, and or demons. possesion....do you think it could be possible....

Demon possession...interesting. Sort of like what's happened here on this message board in recent months!

What about all the unknown bands that have those types of lyrics as well? Did they just get ripped off? Or were their souls worth less from the start?

Demon possession and "selling your soul" to the Devil are two completely different things. You cannot get possessed if you have already made a pact with the Devil or a demon. Religion has rules and you just can't mix them up.

Demon possession is when a demon (or the Devil) takes control over a person against their will for evil and destructive purposes. The demon will stay there until it is forced to leave the body.

Selling your soul to the Devil or making a pact with a demon is when the person exchanges their soul (to be given to the Devil at a later date) for power or wealth or any of the seven vices really. The person receives these right away and lives until unharmed until the expiration date of the pact where they go to hell as the Devil now owns the person's soul.

There is also the possiblity that those people are making it up for attention or they're just wacko.

Don't forget willful possession. Some people invite demons (or spirits) into their bodies. Vodou Mambos and Bokors use this practice as the cornerstone of their religion.

I don't believe in a "Devil" that is the embodiment of all evil, but I do believe in other gods/spirits/forces, that were painted as "Demons" by the Catholic Church when they co-opted and subverted pagan religious festivals.

They do do that in Voodoo/Vodou/Vodun, but the spirits are not good or evil, they are hot or cool. The cool spirits are familial and congenial, while the hot spirits are combative and restless. All of them can become dangerous if angered.

The our conception of the Devil has evolved over the years from many view painted during the Medieval Ages. While the Devil is in the Bible, a lot of our views about him have stemmed from art and literature from the Medieval Ages. Milton's Paradise Lost and Dante's Inferno are big ones.

All of the Catholic feasts parallel the previous pagan ones. A lot of this has to do with the Catholics (then just known as Christians) trying to pull people away from the Pagan festivals. If the Christians were to have their own festivals at different times than the Pagans, people would probably just go to all of them, but if they're at the same time, people have to choose.

As far as I understand, and as stated by S. Jason Black in "Pacts With the Devil" the concept of selling your soul is silly. After all, if you're making pacts don't they own your soul already?

I've read several books that hint at the same concept, such as The Lesser Keys of Solomon, Grimourium Verum & Le Grande Grimoire. According to those, demons seem to prefer such things as tobacco, raw meat, fine wine & possession of the body for an agreed period of time as to have sexual relations. If I were a demon, that'd sound like a decent trade to me for disclosure of the whereabouts of hidden treasures and the such.

Alot of bands in the 70's believed thier music was possessed ..like Black Sabbath
and Kiss'..
I basically think it was due to all the makeup they wore..the cosmetic fumes

I was wondering if someone was going to bring up these notorious demonology books. Others include: Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Munich Handbook, and Liber Juratus.

These books were all written in the Middle Ages and sex with demons was all the rage then. :p The books also talk about the different demons themselves and how to conjure/manipulate them. I think The Lesser Key of Solomon also has instructions on how to call angels.

Yep. I've also been through The Constitution of Honorus, supposedly written by a pope (although all evidence points towards this being a lie)

They really are fascinating books, though I take most of them with a grain of salt. Trident released very nice reprints of a lot of them, along with Dictionairre Infernal. I picked up copies of a few. Unfortunately, Trident went under and now they're hard to find. Hopefully I'll have enough money to complete my collection one day.

these days we wouldnt think any of it's real,( death surrounds us all.death surrounds us all)..we trained ourselve's to deal with demonics through films.
so as soon as we hear something about possesion and demons we automaticly write off as fiction.
what an oppertunity for a demon to posses people.....hit us while were asleep.
