Favorite Idiot Popcorn Monster Movies

There are certain types of horror movies I like to watch on a day off when I am just relaxing and I don't want to think about anything. Generally these are bad movies, but it's just just that--they have to have a certain mildly amusing idiot quality, as though they were made by idiots, or just dull or unimaginative people.

This type of film, I can sit and watch and almost fall asleep to because it has such an unengaging quality.

Oasis of the Zombies is one example. Others are:

The Day It Came To Earth
The Slime People
The Werewolf vs. Vampire Woman
The Green Slime
Brides of Blood
Playgirl Killer
The Vampire Happening
Horror of the Zombies

There are hundreds I love but they're in short supply right now. Hmmmm, for recent ones how about Slither... that was fun.

stubbornforgey 03-13-2007 09:36 AM

Jack Frost
Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman

These two film are not B grade.....these are fucking C grade. They are so cheesy that they made me laugh my ass off.

And then of course there is this one--it's been a big favorite of mine for several years now...THE MONSTERS CRASH THE PAJAMA PARTY

this is about as awesome as it can get and i am always recommending it to people.

I have always been good at finding monster goodies! And this one, I tell ya, go grab it. You can get it used all over the place for six dollars.

If you relate to the cover art--if the illustration "speaks" to you--then you'll enjoy the disc. I paid 20 for mine and I still watch it all the time.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea springs to mind and The Land That Time Forgot. Both great popcorn monster movies.

crabapple 03-13-2007 12:28 PM

Ohhhh, I can't put Neon Maniacs on the list because I can never fall asleep watching that. It's too stimulating!

To be on my version of the list, the film has to be sleepy-headed.

The Mothman 03-13-2007 12:29 PM

anyways.

Shriek Of the Mutilated fits into thsi categorie of extremely bad and boring.

crabapple 03-13-2007 12:32 PM

Oh yes, well, I love 'em of course, all of 'em, but this is a special type of bad movie--not necessarily the type of thing that makes me laugh hysterically, more on the relaxing side. It might be something that is trying to be scary but just isn't. This is a vague category though so whatever you think fits, fits!

^^not a monster movie...but it does have flying power tools!
slow moving and relaxing. depressing atmosphere. almost turns into a Requiem For A Dream type movie when the shit starts shitting the fan. but for some reason itsa nice and stimulating.

Perhaps the title of this thread shoud be "Favorite Idiot Sleeptime Monster Movies".

I like to be lulled off to sleep with "The Fearless Vampire Killers". Great atmosphere for nighty night time.

"Fangs of the Living Dead" aka "Malenka" (1969). Directed by Amando de Ossorio.

Now this is an odd bad movie, in some ways it is not bad at all...there is some cool vampire stuff with nice creepy atmosphere and it's scary and weird. The good sequences seem very Bava-influenced. Certainly the lighting is very spooky during the scary moments. But most of the movie seems like a comedy spoof of vampire films, with broad goofy humor.

Overall, the total effect is more cozy than scary and its cheeseball logic puts it squarely in idiot territory. The American version has a comedy ending that is supposedly not present in the original Italian release. The version with the "straight" ending is supposed to be far better, but I have only seen the US release

OMG you had to mention those!~ There is something WRONG with those movies!!!!!
