All-around film tournament

seems like I haven't done one of these in a while, this particular one hasn't been done as far as I know since that first one, and I checked 5 pages back and have only found one tournament that isn't done yet, so if there'd be any interest I'd be willing to do up an All-Around Movie Tournament.

I'd vote in it.

pinkerton 02-17-2007 09:47 PM

I would vote, add some war movies!

The STE 02-17-2007 10:01 PM

Since I'm not just gonna plug my top 64 movies into the tournament, any recommendations would be welcome

pinkerton 02-17-2007 10:04 PM

Full metal Jacket
Phantasm
Grand Theft Parsons
Grandmas Boy
Evil Alien Conquerers
Napoleon Dynamite

\
Those are a few of my nominations.

The STE 02-17-2007 10:07 PM

Ok, I realize this exposes a big bias on my part, but fucking Napoleon Dynamite will never be in a Best Movie tournament that I'm in charge of.

Box office records mean shit to me.

The STE 02-17-2007 10:17 PM

the 64 movies are chosen by me. It'll be a combination of my opinion and general consensus. For example, I did an Asian Movie tournament. Oldboy won. Now, I wouldn't put Oldboy in my top 64 movies list, but it won the Asian movie tournament, so I figure general opinion around here of it must be pretty high, so Oldboy will be in the tournament.

That's not a blanket rule, though. General opinion of The Beyond seems pretty high around here, too, and The Beyond will not be in the tournament.

I figure I'll divide it into 8 genres and pick 8 movies for each genre, so representation will be even.

The STE 02-17-2007 10:19 PM

I don't care about the box-office records, so box-office records will play no part in the selection one way or the other.

pinkerton 02-17-2007 10:19 PM

Super Troopers

AUSTIN316426808 02-17-2007 10:22 PM

Healthy dose of Kurosawa and Scorsese wouldn't hurt.

The STE 02-17-2007 10:24 PM

both will be well represented

I would think that's given and as I remember, he doesn't hold musicals to high, so what the last genre would be, I have no idea.

Action, Drama, Horror, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, Romance, and Sci-Fi will probably be the genres

And the previous one was 128 movies? Hm. I might do more than 64 if it comes to that.

256 it is then :)

The STE 02-18-2007 04:26 PM

I'll probably do a couple qualifying rounds in the early going, because a 255 match tournament would take forever

Have a fun year with this one sam.

The STE 02-18-2007 04:28 PM

the qualifying rounds won't take long, I doubt this one'll be much longer than a standard 63 match tournament
