Favorite stand up comedian(s)?

I'd have to say mine is Lewis Black. His cd's get me laughing my ass off on every listen.

bloodrayne 01-28-2007 08:13 PM

Amazing Jonathan...Penn And Teller...Gallagher...Mitch Hedberg (R.I.P.)

dewaholic 01-28-2007 08:16 PM

Gallagher, Ellen, Louis Ck, The Amazing Jonathon, Howie Mandell & those are just the ones of the top of my head.

Master 01-28-2007 08:18 PM

Alot of these guys you are mentioning rely on sight gags, Mitch Hedberg was good though. I was thinking more in terms of comedy cd's as I haven't seen too much live stuff.

Some of mine right there.

I also like Steven Wright, Dane Cook, Chrissy Burns, and Heywood Banks.

I don't like much political humor anymore though. I used to be into politics in a HUGE way but it's caused a lot of problems and I've realized a lot of things over time and I'm tired of it.

AUSTIN316426808 01-28-2007 08:25 PM

Eddie Murphy
Dane Cook
George Carlin
Richard Pryor

Oh yea them too. Never seen Dane Cook though.

neverending 01-28-2007 08:27 PM

I'll have to agree with you on Lewis Black - his "always near a heart attack with rage" schitck is hilarious, IMO - and he's intelligent enought to make some great points with his humor.

Another one of the same calliber is Bill Hicks- full of rage, filthy, and hilarious.

Exactly the opposite but incredibly funny is Steven Wright- deadpan delivery of mostly one-liners that are so twisted they make you bust up at their outrageous outlook.

Exactly. Bill Hicks was really good too. These guys are more my type of humor. Steven Wright is only so-so for me, but if you guys like him, have you ever tried listening to Todd Barry?

Sam Kinison was pretty fucking funny too. Has anyone liistened to "Louder than Hell"?

Elvis_Christ 01-28-2007 08:36 PM

Lenny Bruce
Richard Pryor
Bill Hicks
Andrew Dice Clay

Master 01-28-2007 08:37 PM

How about favorite comedy albums?

~Chainsaw~ 01-28-2007 09:37 PM

let's give it a shot:

"Relentess" and "Rant In E Minor" by Bill Hicks
Lenny Bruce @ Carnegie Hall
Lewis Black-The White Album
Sam Kinison-Live From Hell

and i dunno if they have comedy albums out, but if they do, try anything by stephen wright or patton oswalt

I really like your picks. I have the Patton Oswalt stand up album and I can honestly say that I listened to it in it's entirety without so much as chuckling. the other stuff that you mentioned is really good, though.

~Chainsaw~ 01-28-2007 09:46 PM

I really think you should give Patton another chance. Maybe that album didn't have his best material.

To me, he always comes up with the goods

I don't know. It seemed pretty cheesy. I also listened to an album by some dude named Jim Gaffigan and had the same response. Also, b/c I know he is pretty popular, I'm not too impressed with Dane Cook. His cd's have had bits that made me laugh pretty good, but it's a lot more miss than hit for me. Very inconsistent....

~Chainsaw~ 01-28-2007 11:29 PM

hate dane cook. love jim gaffigan

are you aware of jim gaffigan's "Pale Force" series on nbc.com? Him and Conan O'Brian fight crime with their paleness and they shoot laser sunlight out of their nipples and stuff. It's really cool!

Vodstok 01-29-2007 05:10 AM

Bill Hicks
Jim Norton
Dane Cook
Brian Reagan
Louie CK

Disease 01-29-2007 05:34 AM

Bill Hicks is my first choice, Dylan Moran gets a mention, and an old favorite is Rodney Rude, p.s Stephen Wright!

Haunted 01-29-2007 06:24 AM

Bill Hicks (I miss him)
Mitch Hedburg (I miss him)
Louis Black is extremely funny
Rowan Atkinson
Sara Silverman (fuck all y'all's moms for not mentioning her:D ;) )
Bill Cosby's old records are really funny and his show: Bill Cosby Himself (that's about all of his stuff that's funny, and I don't know why I find it amusing)
Chris Rock is funny sometimes, because I think he's just being honest.
Dave Chapell had his moments
Ellen Degeneres is actually funny live
Paula Poundstone was funny in her day.

I guess it depends on what type of humor I'm in for.

Good list, and i have found all of them funny at one time.

i think Ellen Degeneres is hilarious, she just gets a bad rap.

Ill never forget, YEARS before she came out, i worked with a girl named Perry who was a hardcore feminazi lesbian. She was always looking for a fight in the name of being oppressed. she told me ellen degeneres was a lesbian, and my reaction was "So? she's funny and doesnt make it an issue, apparently. what's your problem with it?"

She didnt like me :)

Roderick Usher 01-29-2007 07:24 AM

I forgot Denis Leary too, his first couple albums were great and The Ref is a classic holiday film.

The Ref is great. Leary's comedy albums were very funny and his delivery was perfect, unfortunately he stole about 75% of his material directly from Bill Hicks.

Poor Bill couldn't break out and make it big, Leary brought it to an audience.
I don't have to respect somebody to think their funny. In fact, as far as celebrities go, there are VERY if any that I could say I "respect".

Steven Lynch and Otis Lee Crenshaw do some good musical standup.

Hell, Ellen should be the lesbian heroine: Most everybody loves her adorable look, her humor is clean but funny, she's got her own show, people pity her for the Anne Heche (who looks like an ass now) debacle, she's got a hot girlfriend.

Hey Vod, remember when I was the forum femnazi?:D (Was in training to be a Dianic High Priestess. Gave it up for my own beliefs. Found out that men aren't actually stupid nor are you guys all scum).

Now... to the rest of yous, who in hell is Dane Cook, and why does he suck? Apparently I've been spared.

As for Louis CK... I saw him twice, once on Dr. Katz then on a HBO thing a year ago. He did the same shit on the HBO thing that he did on Dr. Katz, which was, admittedly, pretty damn funny.

"Rise testicles! Rise at my command!"

Finally...

Of course you like Sara Silverman, Murder. You couldn't possibly not like her.:D

This is Dane Cook. He's a silly bitch and I love him http://youtube.com/watch?v=8rr5c6j9T0w

Here's a less nervous Dane Cook: http://youtube.com/watch?v=A3TnQ16leUE

Elvis_Christ 01-29-2007 02:40 PM

Ellen Degeneres fucking sucks. Everytime I see her I get the urge to stab myself in the eyes and ears.

~Chainsaw~ 01-29-2007 02:40 PM

Mitch Hedberg. It's such a fucking shame he died. And Jimmy Fallon will probably live to be 118.

Here are some Mitch quotes in his memory:

I want to get a job as someone who names kitchen appliances. Toaster, refridgerator, blender....all you do is say what the shiit does, and add "er". I wanna work for the Kitchen Appliance Naming Institute. Hey, what does that do? It keeps shiit fresh. Well that's a fresher....I'm going on break.

I got to write these jokes. So, I sit at the hotel at night and I think of something that's funny. Or, If the pen is too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of wasn't funny.

You know that Pepperidge Farm bread, that stuff is fancy. That stuff is wrapped twice. You open it, and then still ain't open. That's why I don't buy it, I don't need another step between me and toast.

This product that was on TV was available for four easy payments of $19.95. I would like a product that was available for three easy payments and one complicated payment. We can't tell you which payment it is, but one of these payments is going to hard.

You know when they have a fishing show on TV? They catch the fish and then let it go. They don't want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something.

I would imagine if you could understand Morse Code, a tap dancer would drive you crazy.

I don't wear a watch because I want my arms to weigh the same. So if somebody asks me what time it is, I have to tell them something that is going on. "What time is it, Mitch?" "Uh, that guy is eating a hamburger." "Shit, I had to be somewhere..."

I went to the park and saw this kid flying a kite. The kid was really excited. I don't know why, that's what they're supposed to do. Now if he had had a chair on the other end of that string, I would have been impressed.

At my hotel room, my friend came over and asked to use the phone. I said "Certainly." He said "Do I need to dial 9?" I say "Yeah. Especially if it's in the number. You can try four and five back to back real quick."

Despare 01-29-2007 02:51 PM

Actually I got the Jimmy Fallon Bathroom Wall cd somehwere and even though his comedy isn't that funny he has some GREAT impersonations.

~Chainsaw~ 01-29-2007 02:54 PM

Fallon pisses me off. He always laughs during skits and ruins the whole thing.

I've never seen him do impressions though. Which people does he impersonate?

the_real_linda 01-29-2007 02:54 PM

has got to be ellen....and peter kay....and bill bailey and dylan moran and peter kay......victoria wood......and ellen some more

Cliff from Cheers, Adam Sandler... I don't know a whole bunch of people. When he sings the Troll Doll themes as different bands he does a pretty good job too.

Found a short impression of Sandler...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1GUaMdy1Yc

Here's him singing about Trolls as different bands. Well, there's also some idiots lipsyncing along with it for some horrible reason.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CyIdOWRm2g

~Chainsaw~ 01-29-2007 03:40 PM

Wow! That Sandler impression is spot on.

This marks the first time I've ever been entertained by Jimmy Fallon.

And he only laughed once during the entire skit, which is like a new record for him.

It's actually adorable when he only does it once, it's when he laughs at every other line that really pisses me off...
