Need Help (Someone with Computer Skills)
I just purchased a MIC for my computer. I have plugged it in every hole I have and I'm not able to get it to let me record in my program. What am I doing wrong?....
|
@Dave
I was waiting on that one. |
Nope. Even tried other programs.
|
What kind of plug is it? Is it a mic & headset combo?
|
@Despare
No, it's just a MIC, like one for singing. @Dave I'll do that. |
so its just a regular mic? Not a PC Mic? DO you need software for it maybe? Did your PC do anything when u plugged it in? It should run a test?

These folks are on the right track. In order to plug your mic into the soundcard on your computer you need one that has a mini jack. Standard rca jack won't work. Also, what program are you trying to use it with? Is this a mac or pc?
Whan requesting tech help details are always helpful. |
It's a 3.5 mm plug that I'm putting in the microphone plug. It shows nothing on the screen when I put it in and I'm using a PC and the programs are Cool Edit Pro and Acid 4.0.

And you've installed any drivers that come with the mic? What brand/model is the mic? More info! :) |
It's a phillips karaoke MIC that I got from walmart. It had nothing that should be installed. I would have thought it worked like my old MIC and computer.
|
go to the little speaker icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Double click it. In the software mixer that comes up, click on options. Then click on properties. Then select recording. Make sure microphone has an x in the box. Then in the recording controls, make sure microphone is selected. Make sure volume is set at a good level.
All this may be moot if you have the wrong type of mic- I'm not sure that 3 1/2" jack will work- even though you can get it to go into the soundcard jack, it might not work. You may need to go to Radio Shack and get a 3 1/2 to mini adaptor. |
sounds kinda like a mic thats not meant to be used on computers:eek:

Hmmm...Ok, well, I got the MIC to work with Neverendings instructions. Now I have another problem. It's showing something recording, and it shows the sound waves, yet I am unable to hear myself in the recorded version.
|
turn up your volume.:)
|
I did. I have headphones on.
|
Does it have a meter when you're recording, to show how loud you're recording? Is it pretty low? Can you get it to go into the red when you shout? You might be plugged into the line-in or speaker jack by mistake- or even aux. Mic should be a red or pink jack. Try turning up the volume as suggested- in cooledit, in the windows mixer as well.

Thanks for all of your help everyone.
For some reason, I just tried it again, and it's playing perfectly. -Shrugs- Weird. |
For the record, had i beenj around for all of this, my suggestion would have been the same as Neverending's... i was even ready to take soem screenshots :)

Glad you got it all worked out Vamp!
