Sometimes You Should NOT listen to HDCers

OK - here's a thread to reveal BAD HDC advice.

I'll begin with a controversial one in the form of a little story:

My friend and I were in the video store and he wanted to see a 'scary movie' - no stress that's my thing. BUT, he insists that we see a film that neither of us have seen - ok, limits me a bit BUT, i suddenly remembering reading folks (who shall remain nameless) declaring Session 9 as the "scariest film they had ever seen." so we rent it.

Well, I can't begin to describe what an utter disappointment it was. The whole film was a series of "oh, now its going to get good" followed by a gentle sigh of exasperation as the scene suddenly shifted without climax or explanation.

utter and total shite (and you made me watch a film with DAVID CARUSO IN IT! DAVID FREAKING CARUSO!!!!

stygianwitch 11-08-2006 01:39 PM

You're not alone, i HATED this movie, couldn't even sit through to the end..... definitely total shite :(

Yup!! That was deffinitely the worst flaw in that movie.

That guy sure is one hell of a boring actor.

i sat through the end hoping (based on the ridiculous assumption that my friends here had a FREAKIN CLUE) that there would be an amazing pay off --- but nope.

and caruso seemed to actually get more wooden as the movie went on - bizarre.

i can't even watch a minute of CSI MIAMI - he is SO AWFUL!

I actually thought "Session 9" was quite good.... Untill the ending that is.

It had a very good eerie atmospheare about it, from beginning to end and i was really surprised and impressed by the, to me, infamous actor Peter Mullan.

But the ending...... meh... Disappointing.

GetrDone 11-08-2006 02:23 PM

Never seen it....Thanks for saving me the trouble

urgeok 11-08-2006 04:31 PM

Session 9 is a fantastic film .. and David Caruso was just fine in it ... unless you're hung up with being fashionable (where fashion dictates that its cool to hate David Caruso) - check out Session 9.

it isnt scary - its creepy and atmospheric.

david caruso couldn't act his way out of a paper bag - - - indeed, i think a paper bag would've had more depth of feeling and range of emotion and reaction than caruso in session 9 (and everything else he's been in). . . indeed, casting a brown paper bag and just sitting it in scenes to take the place of david caruso would've made that film infinitely better

and, since when does 'atmospheric' translate into "pointless and disjointed?" nothing happens and the payoff is just plain silly

utter crap

I only found out about session 9 through people here talking it up, but I liked watching it before bed, and I was very happy to hear the sentridoh song at the end, that made my night.

Heh, Can't blame ME...I've never seen that movie...It didn't look very interesting to me :p

The Flayed One 11-09-2006 03:58 AM

I think you're in the minority here, bub. Session 9 is a great flick, and according to the HDC Top 100, a lot of people agree.

Nikkif8 11-09-2006 05:34 AM

I thought it was a boring film also and I was very disappointed!

urgeok 11-09-2006 05:45 AM

just goes to show you 2 things..

1) we all have different tastes

2) there is no accounting for the people with poor taste :p

Oh, I HAVE considered it...It just didn't really seem like my thing...And, you know that you and I specifically have different taste in movies...Just a little [/obviously understating=being a smartass], but it's there

Haha...It's okay...I've been told that before (mostly by Seri...But there are a lot of them that she and I agree on, too)...The funny thing is, Dustin loves the same ones I do, and dislikes the same ones I do...So I guess we were made for each other...lol

I actually agree with that...For a FEW reasons, and I'm sure that others would, too...lol

No one else here likes the Herscell Gordon Lewis's except for me and Dustin, we have tons of them (including a boxed set)...Toxie's pretty popular here (I'm waiting for the price to come down on the Tox Box, probably get it for Christmas)...Overall, we have a lotta cheesy, gory stuff...But, we have lots of other stuff, too...There have been FAR more movies mentioned at this forum that we DO own, rather than that we don't...We have a lot of Asian stuff, too...3 Extremes and 3 Extremes II, we really like...I gave Audition to Jared (Hatebreeder), it was just too slow, I really only liked the last 20 minutes, and the 'bag' thing (but, now I have to replace that one because Dustin hasn't seen it...Thanks for reminding me, I'll get it at eBay right now)...Still haven't bought One Missed Call...Waiting for that one to get cheaper, too

There are not very many horror movies overall that I just flat out can't stand...I can appreciate quite a few of them for different reasons

Whoa...I'm jealous

Did you see 2001 Maniacs with Robert Englund?...We bought that one a couple weeks ago...They changed up the kills some...It wasn't bad.

We also have Blood Feast 2...Dustin loves that one...It's pretty funny..and VERY cheesy.

Look what I just found :)
