Best Movie endings

I dunno why i'm into endings now, but, what are your favorite horror endings?

I personally liked the Hills Have Eyes remake's ending, because it was pretty realistic and not too hollywoodified. *spoiler* They didn't have the whole, "boy and girlfriend live" thing, which was good too.

The_Return 08-30-2006 03:36 PM

I havent seen the remake (yet), but the original Hills Have Eyes had a perfect ending. People say it was too abrupt, but I thought it was great.

Session 9 has one of the best closing lines EVER.

The last shot of Hitchcock's Frenzy is great too.

Maltese Falcon is amazing...Casablanca is classic (Beat ya to those ones Alky:p)

More will come to me...

Well that's a given.

Scream I wouldn't say it was spectacular or anything, but it's definently a good ending. Silent Hill, although really sad, was really interesting.

Return could you tell me the closing line from session nine? And the abrubt ending to the hills original?

noctuary 08-30-2006 05:31 PM

Dr. Strangelove had the best ending ever. Absolutely perfect in every way.

VampiricClown 08-30-2006 06:17 PM

I just watched Halloween 4....A pretty good ending for a slasher film.

Silent Hill?

I really loved Silent Hill. one of my favorite all time movies... without spoiling it I'll just say this about the ending: WTF IS WITH THE ZOOM IN ON THE BUSH!??!?!

urgeok 08-31-2006 02:19 AM

You havent seen them? I really dont wat to ruin it for you (especially Session 9), check them out for yourself. Here's as much as I can say without spoiling.

Session 9's closing line adds a whole other way of looking at the film. The voice of the actor that delivers it (uncredited) seems to be distorted a little....turns out very, very good. Watch it.

As for Hills Have Eyes....As I say, I havent seen the remake yet, but according to my friend that watched the original with me, it ends the same way only about 10 minutes sooner, leaving alot more questions.

No one mentioned Se7en?

"AHHH CMON! Whats in the box?"

Sleepaway camp goes from campy horro rflick to downright horrifying in the last 30 seconds. I thought nothing of it until then, then literally yelled "What the fuck...." the first time i saw it.

Shatner did a parody of that scene? I must see it... "What... IS IN.. Thebox?"

I forgot The Usual Suspects. I am still in awe of that movie. Notice none of my short stories even attempt a brilliant "HOLY SHIT" spin at the end... Often imitated, never duplicated.

Speaking of twists, a movie that had a great end, until they threw in the second twist at the end.. identity. Great movie until the last 5 minutes.

No one said Night of the Living Dead - heartbreakingly brutal

Zero 09-08-2006 03:43 AM

I agree with RU - night of the living dead was savage; i'd also have to give a nod to the ending of Texas Chainsaw (of course the original) - the insanity of it and the suddeness of the final cut was staggering.

oh, and i love the look on Loomis's face at the end of Halloween when MM has disappeared. i read that carpenter was filmed an alternate where michael is dead - thank god he went with the supernatural disappearance ending. . . classic!

The first time I saw that, I was just staring at the screen, jaw hanging open, thinking "Uh...what the hell is happening here?"

God that was an amazing ending:D

Planning to finally buy that in the near future...I see in the Zeller's flyer this morning that they have a 2-pack with Blazing Saddles and Caddyshack for $12 (!), hopefully I'll get down after work tomorrow.

Wow. That, my friend, is a good deal. Usually 2-packs consist of a great movie and a piece of shit, but those are both great.
