Bands I should check out?
 

So Im going away for a few days tomorrow morning. I have nothing to occupy myself with other than my Ipod (and my portable DVD player, but that gives me a headache in the car).

So basically what Im asking is in the title: What are some bands that I should check out? Im looking for stuff that I avent heard before/not familliar with, so I have new stuff to listen to while Im away.

Ive already started downloading stuff from bands that I know members around here like...Faith No More and Thursday, among others.

Im not really concerned about the type of music, doesnt matter...just looking for new tunes.

I guess it really depends on what you're into. Archenemy is great, so is Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Black Dahlia Murder, and if you like Primus, there's a song called "Buzzards of Green Hill" by Les Claypool with Frog that I can't get out of my head.

Voivod is great. Their cover of Astronomy Domine is one of my favorite songs.

They are so amazing, and their new album has just recently leaked. saerkjhgaielrhliaehruahgbewlruihtgaeurhgt. I just can't explain how much they rock, and as fellow horror fans, you guys should look into the "concepts" of their albums. They're more hardcore than any metal band out there.

Well I wish that I would have caught more of these suggestions before I went away...oh well.

To be honest I was a big fan of most of the bands that I checked out....Im not really into screaming, and thats what most of the stuff I downloaded was. Oh well, it gave me something new to listen to, thanks guys!:D

Ah, hell. If you wanted non-screaming, why didn't you say so? Half of the stuff I listen to is screaming, the other half isn't. Next time I'll pick the good, non-screaming stuff.

Download Lou Reed "Street Hassel", you'll hate it. But it's one of my favorite songs.

Its one of his more underated albums there's some good tunes on there. New York is probably my favorite album of his after the Velvets. Coney Island Baby is great too. Dig Transformer but its kinda been overplayed by me especially when I was younger.

I really like The Will To Death by John Frusciante at the moment. Picked it up cheap with his album Curtains from a sale bin. Some cheesy songs but there's a lot of killer tracks on the two. Way better than his RHCP stuff. Downbeat with his sad guitar wailing. Dope.

I appreciate both for their own strong points. But, alas, since At the Drive-In is no longer with us as a band I'm giving all of my support to the Mars Volta, rather than Sparta.

I got New York for X-mas last year.. And I totally agree. New York is one of his best albums. It's better than Transformer. Some of the songs on Transformer aren't that good. While, NY is all great.

I haven't heard Coney Island baby yet. I heard it's one of his most up-beat records.

The next Lou Reed album that I am getting is "Blue Mask". That title song is badass ! I heard a lot of great things about it.

I finally got a record player . And my friend gave me "Lou Reed - Take no prisoners - Live". Very rare, but what a god awful album. But it is amusing how drunk he is and all the shit talking he does during and between songs.

I haven't heard Blue Mask yet. Haha Take No Prisoners is rare over there huh? There were so many copies floating about over here at one point in cheap bins! One of my favorite stores was filled to the brim with LR stuff.
Thats cool you picked up a turntable its a whole new world of music for you to get into. I've got back into CDs after I sold my last record collection to pay some bills and get a new guitar. Not sure if I've got the patience to start another collection..... but I probably will at some point.

Lou Reed doesn't support America. He very rarely tours here. Many once in 5 years ? But every year he tours Europe :rolleyes: Great for me. I'm a huge fan.

His albums are hard to find here. Besides Transformer or his greatest hits.

The record company didn't want to release "Take No Prisoners" at all. It was only in limited release in America. While Europe has almost all the original Velvet records...

That is my ultimate dream. Is owning a original American Velvet Underground "Andy Warhol" album. They go for almost 400 dollars...

Those US pressings from that time are really nice records. The MC5 - Back in the USA I had was a great sounding pressing with a decent thick as fuck cover. Sold it for nowhere near what it was worth but whatever.....
I had standard NZ pressings of the Velvets albums awhile back. The recent colour vinyl re-issues are well worth your time. I stopped being anal about pressings after awhile. A bunch of the re-issues are even better than the originals. Sundazed brings out a lot of cool re-issues on 180g vinyl (MC5, Stooges, Byrds, The Sonics). I dig how Dischord still brings out a bunch of vinyl still.... you'll have to pick up all the Fugazi albums!
But yeh keep trawling the junk and second hand stores you'll be suprised what turns up for next to nothing.

Of course I have a Fugazi record. I got a original print of "Margin Walker". Their second album. And one of Fugazi's best.

You know 13 songs cd ? Margin Walker is half of the album.

I had a really cool marbled copy of End Hits. I wonder if it still comes out like that. Doubt it I guess cuz it must have been the first pressing. I had a O.G Repeater and first Minor Threat EP aswell. Hahaha I had...... I had....... :rolleyes:

Vinyl has got stupidly expensive over here since a certain vulture chainstore took over the local store. $50 a record in some cases fuck that. Pity its pretty much the only place to get music. I refused to go there for ages but had to bite the bullet. Its like going to a supermarket..... :rolleyes:
