SPAM!

Hi I'm spamman

Miss Olivia 07-10-2006 11:56 AM

Def Leppard. Whoop.
Scott Stapp. Blow.
Ultraviolet. Blew.
Goo Goo Dolls. Shit.
Think I'll pass.

waffle 07-10-2006 12:06 PM

It's not spam! Honest - just trying to spread the word. I know there's some not so great bands there (well, not my taste anyway) - but we're just trying to include some cool stuff, and the films are.
We've got some awesome exclusive interviews, with things getting even better over the next few months.
Promise - not spam. Just trying to appeal to like-minded (maybe) people!

Miss Olivia 07-10-2006 12:13 PM

We'll see how long you stick around after you plug your stuff.
Do you even care about horror movies, or are you just trying to sell stuff? Where else have you posted? Has there been ANYTHING that doesn't have to do with your little magazine?
How can you say it's not SPAM?

newb 07-10-2006 12:15 PM

Funny.......Spam is usually enjoyed at breakfast.....much like a waffle.

Say what you will. The editor has asked me to post on some popular forums, so I am. We're all doing this together from our own pockets and trying to make it work - and I figure that's something you guys can relate to.
If I didn't care about horror, I wouldn't slog my guts out producing a mag.
Like I said, we're on our own out here, so with no massive distribution deal, and no huge advertising budget.
It's not spam cos I'm not just some fcking bot leaving a trail of badly spelt shite across anything with a forum.
Anyway...

filmmaker2 07-10-2006 01:30 PM

Well, you're obviously on a budget as far as advertising is concerned, so you can slide a little. You should know, though, that for the most part we're a bunch of cheap bastards with shallow pockets ourselves! Ain't that right folks?

By the way, have you seen "The Day It Came To Earth"? Because one of the characters has of all things a WAFFLE obsession.

Okay. This is fucking spam

On what grounds do you have to make that statement? Nine or some odd posts into your stay here, three or more which are in this thread. How can you possibly think you'd know what we'd relate to?

Quote:

Bullshit. I'm a writer, one who's gotten paid for some work several times. I do all kinds of shit I hate to write, like copy for webpages that sell fishing lures. I respect the fact that you're trying to get a magazine out, but that statement just reeks of desperation to prove yourself.

Quote:

Like I said, we're on our own out here, so with no massive distribution deal, and no huge advertising budget.
Again, I respect the fact that you're trying to produce an indy magazine. I've worked for a few, and it's hard. However, we didn't waste our time spamming message boards trying to advertise. We were out handing out copies for free, homemade flyers and such trying to get people interested. I have no testaments to your magazine. You've offered no samples whatsoever to the writing/article quality. I see a post that alludes to one 80's horror movie & two that came out this year. Other than that, it looks like a bunch of shitty bands with one or two horror articles thrown in. Why the hell would I be willing to pay so much money for that?

Quote:

It's not spam cos I'm not just some fcking bot leaving a trail of badly spelt shite across anything with a forum.
I'm sure anyone could see the irony in that. Unless you were trying to be cute by mispelling fucking, and intentionally used spelt (which happens to be a species of wheat from the bronze age) then I'm assuming that's the writing quality I can find in your zine. I'll pass.

Quote:

Anyway...
Anyways what? Is that some sort of snide remark because you think you've "pwned" the people here who are calling you out? Far from it.

So now I'm challenging you to bring it on. If this is truly your labor of love and you have no interest in anything else than writing for your own horror magazine, prove it. What articles do you have lined up? Surely you're not just going on the fly. Any information on upcoming issues? I can read a thousand peoples opinions on the DVDs that just came out this month for free. I can go out and pick up a cutting edge copy of Fango if I'm dying to read a director's interview. What are your takes? What sets you apart from the rest? Ultraviolet & The Hills Have Eyes? That's some old news for a horror magazine. Or are you a metal magazine? You said bring it, so let us know: What's so fucking great about your mag that we need to pony over our cash to see?

filmmaker2 07-10-2006 02:04 PM

Good God, man!!!!

Jacob Singer 07-10-2006 02:05 PM

Hey man , calm down!!! see?? He's gone. Sure he never would post here again

The Flayed One 07-10-2006 02:15 PM

Okay, okay. I'm overly full of bile today. I apologize.

Miss Olivia 07-10-2006 02:22 PM

It was still a lot of good points, Crunchy.:p

PR3SSUR3 07-10-2006 02:30 PM

And I have to say that the act of dissecting and quoting somebody's post so diligently is somewhat disturbing.

Surely addressing the issue in general is the reasonable way to respond, and perhaps the relevant elements contained within the last post - pasting and rubbishing every bloody sentence shows great defensive irritation and suggests that the other person is incapable of making a point whatsoever.

The Flayed One 07-10-2006 02:33 PM

Now you're just trying to ag me on. :D

The key to spamming is to build up credibility with the forum regulars by first taking part in regular conversations for a while.

And now let me tell you about all the wonderful things you can get with Amway...

The "editor" asked you to post what?..Information to promote his site...By joining random forums that you have no intention of becoming a REAL contributing member of, in order to sell/push/promote a product....Sweetheart, that is the DEFINITION of SPAM

AND...

If you have to start a thread with "Please don't hate me but....", it's obvious that you already know we are not going to 'be happy with' what you are about to post, before you even post it...Why would you think we would be interested in purchasing your product if you already know we don't want to even hear about it?....Kinda makes your post pointless, huh?

BTW...If you WERE a REAL member here, you would have known to expect this, and you also would have known that.....We hate commercials...

We are a horror forum, not a consumer market for free internet advertising...

waffle 07-11-2006 03:21 AM

K. I would have replied sooner, but I went to bed.

The Flayed One: Well done - you are clearly a very, very clever person and the biggest of the big cheeses on this website. To respond to just couple of your points, (because honestly, I know your friends will jump to your defence, but the majority were just petty and ridiculous):

I figure that people can relate to someone trying.

I'm glad you're a writer, and I'm sorry you don't like some of the stuff you write about. We do enjoy the topics we write about, but as yet aren't getting any money from it - just enough to break even and cover print costs. I don't really understand how you can take umbrage to me defending a previous accusation of not caring about horror.

Anyway... no it's not some snide remark, it's just an ending. Seriously, grow up and chill out. What are you? 12?

Bloodrayne, thanks for replying with a little more civility. You wrote:

"Why would you think we would be interested in purchasing your product if you already know we don't want to even hear about it?....Kinda makes your post pointless, huh?"

Its not so much that I thought you wouldn't want to hear about it. Despite this response it'd be nice to think that at least one person's interest has been aroused. It's more that (present company accepted) I know how cliquey sites can be, and it's deferring to the already established members. That was all.

bloodrayne 07-11-2006 04:26 AM

@Waffle...So...Does this mean you actually ARE gonna stick around?

waffle 07-11-2006 04:51 AM

of course - I've was a regular (ish) poster previously anyway, and have remained a lurker for ages.

filmmaker2 07-11-2006 05:23 AM

So.........you don't really have any waffles, do you. I mean, none you could (or would) give to any of us.

Aw, man!

waffle 07-11-2006 05:48 AM

'fraid not. I mean, I suppose I could buy some and send them, but they'd go minging in the post.

newb 07-11-2006 05:58 AM

It seems like the only way you're gonna get any respect around here is to do just that. WAFFLE'S FOR ALL.

Ha ha. Good man!!!

S'good to see someone sticking up for themselves on here. Made me smile.

Although I do think you ay gonna stay here for very long. Bit if you do, save me a waffle.

I hate Eggo Waffles. I only eat the real deal. Pecan waffles are really good. Belgian waffles with fresh blueberries and real wipped cream rock as well.

However, they aren't very good for you.

The Flayed One 07-11-2006 09:58 AM

You see, waffle? Check out the Darth Fart & HORRORWEEN threads. We deal with that everyday, so sometimes it gets a little too easy for one of us to fly straight off the handle.:p
