No 'Wife Swap' For ME...Thanks, Anyway...

Okay...I didn't know if I should tell you guys about this (to be honest, mostly because it would require a lot of typing to tell you about it, and I HATE typing...but, also cuz it seems kinda stupid)...But...I got to thinking about it later, and the more we talked about it here, the funnier the idea became...

So...Here's what happened...

Last night we were contacted about doing a show called 'Wife Swap'...Now, I don't really watch much television, so I was told that basically, the wife of one family changes places with the wife of another family, and these two families generally have different lifestyles and each is supposed to 'learn something' from the experience...

In the episode they want US to consider, one family would be GOTH (that seemed lame to begin with, why would they consider us to be GOTH?...I still haven't really figured out just what the hell that term really MEANS)...But, we weren't told what kind of people the other family would be (Seri guessed "maybe hillbillies or something"...So, we joked about how THAT would go...lol...We were laughing our asses off)

Specifics:
They will not put children under the age of 5 on the show...So, it was suggested that I allow a family member (outside of our house) to keep Ash for a week  ...Umm...NO

You get paid $20,000....Which everyone here, except me and Dustin, were ready to go for...

So...Even though I turned them down, we were laughing about the possible ways the show could have gone, if we had accepted...

I could just imagine some 'other mom', sitting here while our friends walked through the door (without knocking) at all hours of the night till morning...And asking, "umm is this 'normal'?"...lol...Among MANY other things...

And what if that 'other mom' received a call to go pick up Voltaire, Bella Morte, Dru Cadaver, Hungry Lucy, Trent Reznor, Liquefaction, etcetera, and take them to a show, an after party, out to dinner, or whatever...?

Seri said, "What if me and Shane came in at 4am, would she ask us where we were?...Would we tell her, We went out to eat, duh?"...And what would they think about the fact that we sleep in the daytime (for only a few hours) and we are awake all night?

What I wasn't clear about was this:

Does the family have to adjust to the way the 'new mom' does things?...Or...Does the 'new mom' have to adjust to the way the family does things?...Cuz, I was thinking, MY kids would drive this new mom insane, and I would be taking the 'new kids' out at 2am to hang out with the bands...lol

Anyway...We figured in the end, the 'other mom' would probably end up trying to have us all committed or something because we aren't 'normal'....And the 'new kids' would most likely end up wanting to live with US...:D

So...I ended up telling them that there is NO way I could be away from my kids for a week...

But...Now...I REALLY wanna see this show when it airs......I still wonder what kinda family will be the 'opposite lifestyle family' and what the 'goth family" will be like...

I'll tell ya one thing I know for sure...Whatever 'goth family' they choose, will simply be a buncha fakes...I know this because I hang out with a LOT of people that have been called "goths", and my friends would not appreciate being invaded, and paraded for even a few hours, much less a week...

Anyway...Since we had such a hilarious time coming up with scenarios for how this show would turn out if WE had accepted....I wanted to see what kinda things YOU guys think would have happened.....Cuz, you guys are funny as hell :)

The Sugarplum Fairy Family, that's what it would've been...everyone dresses in pink and white, and they always smile and they have a page-a-day calendar with positive, empowering sayings that they all love to read and adopt as wisdoms.

Yup...THAT would definitely drive me crazy...lol

But...Seriously...We're all happy here..Doing OUR thing....I just don't like the idea that someone (anyone) might try to tell us that the way WE do things is 'wrong'...Even though it may be a little 'different'...And...How would they think we could benefit from any kind of 'change'?....I really don't think we need to be enlightened...

I like kids and everything, but 20 grand? I would've been out of that house faster than you can season tickets and 2 weeks in Australia.

That has nothing to do with it...

That's really what they're looking for, drama.

Ah...So...You have SEEN it.......Is it supposed to be funny?...Cuz, in this case (this episode they are about to do), it seems it could get pretty hilarious....Then again, I can also see how it could quickly become irritating, having the things you do in your everyday life, being called into question....I'm pretty sure some things could piss me off pertaining to this entire premise...

Also, how DOES it work?...Can you answer my question above? "Does the family have to adjust to the way the 'new mom' does things?...Or...Does the 'new mom' have to adjust to the way the family does things?"

OH...And...Dustin said that someone at work told him that each family gets to tell the other family what they have to do with the $20,000 ....Have you heard about that?...Is that TRUE?....We certainly weren't told that by the producers...

Fundamentalist Christians swap with Goths... Now that would be a show!

I also agree that I would not leave my infant child with any family for any amount of money what so ever period, end of discussion, piss off, take your money and shove it up your jacksie, you corporate num nuts.

Actually, we know quite a few Christians who are pretty cool...They even dress like us, hang out with us, listen to the same music we do...BUT...They don't force their beliefs down our throats, and they don't care what OUR beliefs are...We don't even talk about it....Religion is a personal thing anyway, why not keep it to ourselves?

Damn...I didn't even ask when they were planning to air this 'goth' episode.....I pretty much ended the conversation when I told them I didn't want to do it....Now I have to figure out when this is gonna be on...I wanna see what might have happened to us...lol

They already did an episode like that, except it was a new age kind of family instead of goths.

The episode became infamous. The Fundy mom completely flipped out on camera, and now she's famous in certain circles. I never actually watched the show, but I saw enough from the clips to know that it was truly horrifying.

Well, it was suggested that it be a member of OUR family, but someone who doesn't live with us...Like my mother, his mother, etcetera...But still...No way in HELL...

And...Even if we didn't have Ash at all...I still would have said no...For a lot of other reasons....One of the biggest being, that is WAY too much attention...We do NOT need to be on television...

Little bit of both, funny and drama filled...

From the few episodes I watched it's mostly the family adjusting to the mom, but she also participates in usual family activities as well.

I'm not too sure about that, it's either what the guy told Dustin or they just suggest what they should do with the money going by the experience. But like I said, not too sure.

Ugh...I wonder if that's what they're looking to repeat...

I also wonder if, when they find someone to be the 'goth' family, they will expect the teenagers to lock themselves in their rooms and cut themselves  ...Seriously, I wonder if they even really know what they're really looking for...

Hmm...Well...If they make it that flexible...I can definitely see MY family taking over on both fronts...lol

All they're looking for is drama to get ratings, they aren't trying to help anybody be 'enlightened' as you put it.

It's like Jerry Springer, they aren't helping people by talking about the problem for 10 minutes and having a psychologist talk to them for another couple minutes and they don't care if they are or not, they're just looking for 'em to start screaming, yelling and try to beat the hell outta each other.

Well, they certainly didn't tell me THAT either....Glad I backed out...

I don't even like to WATCH shit like that...Makes me tense, and feeds my own feelings of disgust with the overwhelming stupidity of the human race

Thanks, Sweetness:)

Miss Olivia 07-07-2006 08:37 AM

I saw a clip from that show where the wives went back to their husbands, and they all sat down together at a table and then got into a fistfight. It was wierd, they were both white middle class families, and the big DIFFERENCE was one of the mom's liked to dress skimpy and the other one didn't. The goth thing sounds way more interesting.....

The_Return 07-07-2006 08:37 AM

I could never image you on a reality show Rayne...

doctor satan 07-07-2006 08:51 AM

A guy i work with actually did this show in the UK, they swaped with a German family. His wife was a right tyrant, he did all the cleaning, cooking, worked full time while she did fuck all & he ended up looking like a right muppet on national tv. The moment she went into the German household she was hostile & i think she had these delusions of becoming a celebrity. The show went out & to be honest it was quite dull compared to some of the other swaps. I think he got paid about £500 to look a right twat on national tv.

Yeah...No kidding...

Maybe a 'Surreality Show'...lol

@ Austin, Miss Olivia, Flayed and Doctor Satan..Thanks for the info on the episodes :)

I wonder what £500 is in American money...Sounds like a LOT less than $20,000....Do they pay Americans that much more to do it?...If so, I wonder why...OR...Maybe now that so many people have seen the shit that goes on, they actually HAVE to pay people more to get them to do it...Hmm, something to think about...

AUSTIN316426808 07-07-2006 09:19 AM

I was thinking about it and there'd probably be a big argument the first day...

They'd show the other mom getting up at some absurd time, like 5 A.M. She's tidying up and cooking breakfast while everybody's still sleeping, then they show her sitting around 'til 10 A.M. before she tries to wake everybody up and then the shit hits the fan.

LOL...Actually, we usually sleep sometime between 1pm-6pm, depending on what we have to do, like today Seri had to be at work at 1pm, so she went to sleep at 8:30 am and woke up at 12:30.....Dustin has to go to work at 3pm, so he went to sleep at 10:30am, and I have to wake him up at 2:30pm (he sleeps way longer than the rest of us)...And, I'll be TRYING to go to sleep at about 3pm after I get Dustin out the door for work, but that depends on whether the baby will let me or not.....And, the times usually change every day, and always change on days that Dustin, Seri, and/or Stupid Shane don't have to work...

Yeah...I think people from other families may find it difficult to adjust to our schedule...Cuz, we don't really HAVE a schedule...

But...We're ALWAYS awake at 5am...The sun isn't up yet :D

i agree w/ you whole-heartedly, but aside from having to part w/ your kids i would definitely do it. my idea is to take the money, publicity, etc. and run amuck. have fun at someone else's expense. i'm always trying to get onto shows like the real world and amazing race and almost have. i think it would be hilarious to play my obnoxious self on tv. but that's just me.

GorePhobia 07-07-2006 12:29 PM

I am sort of upset you didn't do this.

Here are the reasons.

For one 20 grand is alot of money. That would have been a great thing to be on a TV show.

Also the wife swap thing is ment to be funny and have dramatic aspects. Watching the other mom at your house would have been amazing.

Also you could have gotten the other kids into horror flicks and into the horror forum....aka NAME DROP THE SHIT OUT OF US LOL....This would have made amazing tv....

I wish you would have done it....

The STE 07-07-2006 08:59 PM

opposite of Goth = pretentious Goth poser. Like the ones who shop at Hot Topic and force laughter at death scenes (not like those of us who actually DO laugh at stuff like Bambi's mom) while listening to My Chemical Romance and calling people conformists. They'd be all saying 'like' in every sentence and saying 'oh, you're so not a REAL goth' to everybody

EDIT: And I agree. You could've gotten Sam the Egg's Giant Penis mentioned on national network television!

orangestar 07-08-2006 11:15 AM

That show is on every week when I'm at work. It's kind of a popular show in some circles around here. When I watch it with my mom she always says things like "Don't you appreciate me more because I don't do stuff like that?"

If it wasn't for Ash, I really wish you would have done it, Rayne.
