Think back...
So I was watching Neverending story, and I got to thinking...decided to post this.
What are your top 5 fantasy films you grew up with? They could be animated or live action, either is ok. Try to think back...to a time the flaws of these films didn't show quite so much, to a time they were still magical to you, when you still got thrilled and watched, on the edge of your seat...Don't think of how you see them now, adulthood brings about prejudice against something you once enjoyed. think say when you were aged between 5-10....what were yours? This should be interesting to see what some of our older members say, compared to some of those younger than me... Mine, in no particular order: *Labyrinth *The Last Unicorn *The Neverending Story *Caravan of Courage - Nope, no ewok hatred here. *Willow (The Black Cauldron, Ladyhawke and DragonSlayer gotta get honourable mentions...loved those too...) - B |
Mary Poppins
Fantasia Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Wizard of Oz That's all I can think of. As you can tell, I'm older than a lot of you! BTW, I STILL love to watch Mary Poppins! :D |
Don't know if I have a top five really but it would be a big list to pick from with a lot of movies that have been included and a ton I'm sure I've forgotten.
Mary Poppins Fantasia The Wizard of Oz Labyrinth The Neverending Story Willow Black Cauldron The Adventures of Baron Munchausen Clash of the Titans The Dark Crystal Used to watch the Star Wars tapes a lot too and my dad had me watch Wrath of Khan with him a lot too. Bishop's Wife, watched this classic probably 500 times before I turned 10. |
Dark Crystal
Labyrinth Legend Willow Neverending Story Honorable mention definately goes to The Last Unicorn. |
The Wizard of Oz
The Dark Crystal The Neverending Story I really liked those |
The Last Unicorn
Never saw it, some of my friends say they watched it all the time growing up though. |
Dragonheart.
Or that movie with the kid who visits his aunt and uncle in england, and there's a dragon there or something, and they live in a castle. |
1) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
I'll think of more later |
That movie always frightened me a little... not as much as the remake though.

Would also add Original Star Wars Trilogy Neverending Story Silent Running (not quite fantasy but when I first saw it at the tender age of five I cried at the end when the little robot goes of on his own to look after the forest. The poor little mite!) :( |
I still love all of these movies...
Legend The Dark Crystal Labyrinth Willow The Princess Bride (sort of fantasy... I guess) |
Wasn't really into movies that much as a kid(I was more into reading), but I loved Roald Dahl adaptations, like the Witches, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Also loved the Neverending story. Come on, who didn't cry when Artex the horse died??? That wolf thing scared the crap outa me too. |

As a kid, I didnt venture far from Disney. I was a complete Disney addict! According to my dad, Sword in the Stone was the first movie I ever saw. Used to watch that one constantly, along with a good deal of others, including:
-Pinnochio -Aladdin -101 Dalmatians -Beauty and the Beast |

grew up with .. hmm.
i'm inclined to omit disney films because they are a given .. there wasnt much fantasy when i was a kid .. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Captain Sinbad (the movie of that name) The Wizard of Oz The Phantom Tollbooth The Legend of Hillbilly John i dont have a lot of recollections of growing up with fantasy .. but i remember seeing King Kong VS Godzilla at the theatre when i was 13 or 14 and i think that got me hooked. |
I found The Neverending Story to be pretty damn scary when i was a wee one.
Anyone seen "The Witches"? That was a good one, scared me a whole bunch as well. I think it was abased of tha Rhol Dohl (sp?) book. |

There's always a nice little dark edge to the Roald Dahl books I've read, always had a soft spot for 'James and the Giant Peach'. The animated film wasn't too bad either.
|
Nightmare before Christmas! This one would be kinda cool if they made it an actual movie with actors and stuff.
