"Malevolence"

Just watched it.
For an independent film...the budget looked much bigger than I expected.
Any thoughts on this one?
I liked this one, although reviews across the board pretty much panned it.
What did you guys think of it?

Malevolence

50bc, umm, can you give me somthing here? Is this a new inde, can I pick it up at blockbuster, netflex, what? Can you give us a small piece of the plot? Sounds good.

50BCPRODUCTIONS 02-06-2006 01:59 AM

"Malevolence" can be purchased at Wal Mart or rented at Blockbuster.
The plot:bank robbery goes wrong and robbers hole up in a house that a serial killer/child abducter once resided in...or does he still?
I enjoyed the hell out of it,even tho its nothing real new or grounbreaking in the slasher genre.
Shot on a budget of 100,000 it looks incredible, good acting, lighting, sound,I even liked the music.
It has been called both an homage and a rip off of films like Halloween and Friday the 13th.
View it as a stand alone film, and I think you may like it too.
DvD does contain some decent extras as well.

VampiricClown 02-06-2006 04:26 AM

The story is quite similar to that of Dead Birds if you look at the whole bank robbers go to an old house that they think is abandoned aspect of it. I've watched about 30 minutes of it so far.

tonemeister 02-07-2006 01:55 AM

i thought it was ok. but just that...ok. i personally thought there should have been a little more nudity in it since the girls were so hot. but that's just me. i heard the director speak on this film and it kind of turned me off. he claimed to not be a fan of horror. he made this by the numbers movie just to get his foot in the door as a director.

50BCPRODUCTIONS 02-07-2006 12:29 PM

Nudity is always good...I hadnt heard the director say that before.
Way I heard it,he is a huge Horror fan and this film was the middle story of a trilogy.
Do you know where you saw or heard Stevan Menas comment from?
I would be interested in reading it.
Sucks if he really did say that.
I would be comfortable being labeled a Horror director...Dont know why so many dont want to be associated with Horror.

sabersword 02-07-2006 02:29 PM

Malevolence

I am thinking of Sam Raimi. An inde derector turned mainstream? Does he want to be associated with horror anymore?

he said it at the nyc horror filmfest. that's where i saw the movie and he had a Q and A afterwards.

komi 02-09-2006 01:00 PM

i have this movie but no time :D

so its good?

noctuary 02-09-2006 07:37 PM

I liked it. One of the better indie horror flicks of the past few years, in my opinion. That comment from the director is lame, though. That's what you call a sell-out, in the sense that he's created something he doesn't even like for the sake of money/recognition.

Posher778 02-12-2006 04:33 PM

hated it. i'd put deadbirds or anything in that category over it. it wasn't the worst movie ever or anything, but... damn i hated this. i was in a crappy mood though, so maybe i'll give it a second chance.

VampiricClown 02-23-2006 08:31 PM

I finally finished this thing. Not too bad in my opinion. A few creepy scenes and a disturbing atmosphere. For some reason I felt like I was watching a Halloween knock-off the entire time though.

Despare 02-23-2006 08:53 PM

Dead Birds was a lot better in my opinion but Malevolence managed to put some good scenes out there. I think if it was more of a slasher and there were more people to kill it would've been better. Worth a rent.

alkytrio666 02-28-2006 09:41 AM

Pretty good plot. Horrible music.

And no nudity. The director would have done well to take a page from the Roger Corman playbook.

The opening scene to Memorial Day is a sex scene. That's the first I've seen that opens with nudity like that.

Yes, but you were complaining about "no nudity" and MD was the most recent movie I've watched that came to mind.

urgeok 03-02-2006 05:44 AM

i think nudity is to horror films like peanut butter is to bread.

it's a freaking necessity !

it's the only thing 80's horror got right.
