Evil Dead or Evil Dead 2?
I did a search, and surprisingly enough, nobody has made this thread before.
Both Evil Dead and it's sequel are genre classics, no question about it. They are, however, quite different films dispite having a nearly identical plot. So, which is your favourite? Myself, I really enjoy both. Evil Dead makes great use of a low budget, with great effects and genuine scares. Much more of a true, serious horror film than ED2. Evil Dead 2 does have it's benefits though. Ash, for instance, becomes the horror icon we all know and love, chainsaw, boomstick and all. The "Hell Hand" scene is hilarious, and the bigger budget really shows with more ambitious effects. Personally, Id have to say the original is my favourite, due to it's more serious and scary nature, however both films have earner their place among my all-time favourites. [Check the sig] |
The Evil Dead is my favourite one. I really love Evil Dead II, but I prefer The Evil Dead.
|
love the whole trilogy but evil dead 2 is my fav. it just blends horror and comedy so well.
|
i luv em both, but i prefer evil dead 2 for it's fine tuning and polish.part two is the "Ash" we know and love.
|
ED1.
Better atmosphere, it was the original story, I think the demons looked better not to mention their dialogue being much more fucked up. That, and the redneck fuckers in the second one just annoyed me... |
That's tough...I gotta say they're about equal as far as how much I like 'em but as far as which is the better movie, I'd have to say Evil Dead.
|
Evil Dead
Evil Dead II had alot of comedy in it. And I really didnt like that that much. I love both films. But Evil Dead is An Original and showed how amazingly an film can be put together on a shoestring budget. EVIL DEAD |
Horror wise, I would have to go with Evil dead, best of the series for me was army of darkness, and it was the novelty factor that sealed it for me.
|
I like Evil Dead II better, just for the development of Ash.
|
Both were amoung my favourites. I preferred #2 since I saw it first, and later saw the first expecting it to be like the second. I did however, find the clown-girl in the first movie to be utterly terrifying. XD

I can't really pick. If I'm forced, I'll say The Evil Dead. But it pains me to choose one. |
Evil Dead II...
|
For me Evil Dead II just edges it, as others have previously said the fine tuning and extra bit of polish makes it better viewing.
|
I'll pick Evil Dead 2, it took the best ideas of the first and expanded on em'.
Plus the chainsaw. |
Evil Dead 2 works better for me.
|
I like The evil dead.
but LOVE ED2. A perfect blend of horror and comedy, in my opinion. |
there is no deciding between them..
|
i couldnt possibly decide between them
|
Flip a coin dude :)
|
hahahah i didnt realize the 1st post went through ..
had i known i would have said it differently about 6 more times in 6 different posts :D |
I loved both films, but if I have to pick one, I'd go with the original. The approach and atmosphere was just so much more serious and intense. The second pretty much defined the horror/gore comedy, but that doesn't work as well for me.
|
i thought there was a ton of humor in the 1st one - it just wasnt as slick.
the insane amaounts of blood gushing all over ash .. the demons taunting him ... i thought it was a hoot .. |

a lot of folks dont like humor in a horror .. but i do depending on how it's used.
i'm rarely a fan of comedic relief because it's handled so badly in most films. i think when it's effective is when it's used to make us feel safe.. and seconds later our legs are kicked out from underneath us ... but having some skinny - or fat comedy relief idiot poorly written character is just distracting and counter productive to the horror.. |
ED2.
Comedy. Horror. better Quality. Better plot. And it spawned the Ash we all know and love. It also spawned one of my favourite scenes, the chainsaw on his own hand part with the spurting blood. Groovy. |
