Cheeba's bad day...

So, it started out great.
As some of you might know, I spent the days around my birthday at my fathers place...nice area, coastal/country Australia. A bit boring this time around due to time and financial restrictions, but hey...All the same, this morning, before a 2 hour train ride back to my town...we went to some sand dunes.
BIG sand dunes that eventually lead to some beautiful, like multi-mile long, clear water beaches...which was great. We rode in his 4wd, across the dunes, to the beach. I got in the water a little, but whaty we were there for was essentially one thing.

To "sand surf"...I dunno what else you'd really call it. Stand or sit on a modified surfboard with "reigns", and get dragged along by a long connected rope behind the 4wd along the sand, and the incoming tide. Pretty fun. You glide across the shallow water and tear through the sand. On my first go, I stood up. I've surfed before, so I figure, what the fuck...
It's going great...I notice the board isn't waxed, but figure since I've got the "reigns", it's all good, it wasn't much like surfing at all. We got up to about 40KPH (look it up) The second time it went over the water and back out onto the sand, the top of the board was rather wet...due to a number of factors, when the 4wd made a slight turn onto the sand, I started slipping.

So, I figure I'm gonna fall, one way or another...and figure that if I let go of the reign things, and start running foward really fast, I'll be ok. Turns out that doesn't work, at least not on wet sand. I let go, plant my feet on the ground towards the side of the board, one step, two.....maybe even 3 or 4, and then the trip...all I can think of is how funny it must've been looking at this. For me, can't say I was scared, but I was thinking this is pretty much gonna hurt, in the split second before I made contact. I trip foward, tumble some, and the first part of me to make solid contact with the sand (that I felt anyway) was the left hand side of my face, and neck.
Apparently it looked like I'd broken my neck, but I guess I'm more resiliant than that...my main bother at the time was that I got sand in my mouth and eyes...yuck...So, that's where a chain of events in themselves occured, from the moment of that trip.

*Fell, and felt slightly humiliated
*Ripped a hole in the crotch, yes the crotch of my BRAND new long shorts, which I'd bought specifically for this trip....while not wearing underwear...all I can say is that I'm glad I was wearing a very long, oversized t-shirt.
*Got sunburnt...for a REALLY white guy like me, this is really not fun, also sand scraped my left arm and leg during the accident, and my face a little.
*I had mosquito bites, the sand and salt water seemed to like, super-activate the itch factor...VERY itchy now, even after showering before I left.
*Two hour train trip home to my town...putting up with this shit the whole while...also putting up with the fact that some bratty fucking LOUD kids where around that not even the full volume of my discman could block out.
*During the train trip, as I'm reaching for a cd, something around my chest (inner left hand side, edge of the rib-cage) doesn't feel right, like pulling a stitch, real close, or ON the bone...I felt around a little, and at a basic assessment at how I felt, and that I felt something kind of "move", I'd say that the abovementioned injuries weren't all I sustained, but I think I've also broken my rib....not badly, only about an inch of one of them seems affected by this, but...yeah, didn't make the day any better.
*To top this all off, there was a goddamned fly in the train, and seemed to keep landing in my hair. I FUCKING HATE FLIES.

So, I'm kind of tired right now, and gonna crash relatively soon, I just thought I'd pop in and hopefully give you all a laugh, because I'm pretty sure that if I were viewing these events from a perspective other than my own, I'd probably laugh at the unfortunate son of a bitch. The injury doesn't feel too bad, I'll have it checked out tommorow....but yeah, what a fucking day.

and stubborn, of course I'm gonna do it again...gotta modify a snowboard though, maybe a wakeboard...I think those would work WAY better.

Haunted 01-22-2006 04:51 AM

I didn't laugh. I said, "OW!" I've never fallen in wet sad, but given the consistancy of the stuff, I can imagine that it wasn't pleasant. Sand in your mouth? I echo your "yuck!"

I'm glad you can laugh about your accident. That shows character. It also impresses me that you're going to have another go at some point.

Along similar lines: I went mountain climbing with my bro. I couldn't get all the way up because I'm a puss when it comes to heights. That mountain has served as something to over come. So I think when we go to England this summer, I'm going to get my brother to let me have a go. Maybe I can surmount (get it, surmount?) this mountain that looms behind me.

Anyway, glad you're okay, Cheeba. You're an adventurous dude.

O_o elvis how the hell did you get into my closet???

i mean... uhh:o

Marroe 01-22-2006 10:10 AM

aww, haha. I thought it was kinda funny til I read you may have broke your rib. Go to the doc and have it checked out...you may get some Vicodin:)

What, you too? Shit lets call up IA75 and have an orgy... I mean, I'd have to service all of you, because none of you are remotely gay.

Ow...my jaws hurt just thinking about it.

Girls, have you ever had that happen to you...? You're giving good head, then all of a sudden...jaw cramp? Maybe it's just me.

You know something else that's irelevent? I'm opening up and loosening up a little here. Maybe I should quit while I'm *wait for it* ahead.:D

Elvis_Christ 01-22-2006 04:40 PM

I don't remember saying anything about "service" as you call it. :D

I was in the 4wd when cheebs was sand surfin...It looked fucking painful when he came off but was oh so funny too..

Didn't bring the camera because they had no batterys.. So we all suck for that haha.

I had a go at it. With cheebs. But when he slid off the board he pulled at the thing we were holding onto and kinda pulled me along with him.. Gotta mouthful of sand, did a bit of a roll. Funny stuff.

Still got sand in my ears and my nose. Very annoying.

Well, you know, to be perfectly honest with you Elvis, it's not something that really interests me. I mean, I'll cut up and joke with the best of them, but when it boils down to brass tacks, I usually bow out. I hope that doesn't make me a cock-tease.

However, I'm moving this discussion out of Cheeba's thread. I've gone too far already.

Sorry, Cheeba.:(

cheebacheeba 01-23-2006 05:36 AM

Stop rambling, aqua-faggot.

The rib seems fine today...it's more than likely just a bad bruising, maybe some slight seperation...either way, I think it's safe to assume I'm largely undamaged. No hospital 'til it gives me any further problems.

Aqua-faggot is Cheeba's creative insult for Scaryminda15. I still don't know what it means.

ANYWAY

Great news, Cheeba. I'm glad you don't have any broken bones so far. I hope that you continue to heal so you can get out there and do some more crazy adventurous stuff.:)

Ever thought about getting your own tv show? Half the show could be adventure, and the other half could be cooking.

wood_elf_pansy 01-23-2006 03:35 PM

I hope you had a great birthday, B! I hope you feel better now. Sorry it took me a while I was sick for a couple days, still not quite over it.

Besides the face plant and broken ribs part, that sounds really fun and I would like to try that sometime. Maybe when I (eventually) head that way.

Well, get better.

Spallalala 01-23-2006 04:15 PM

Good to see ya round wood. Im gonna send some beach sand to Marroe.. I can do the same for you if ya want :P

That horrifying. The really sad part is that we live in a world that has no problem feeding it's people. Mother Earth can provide, but just live in a world where the rich get rich and the poor stay poor. We could help those children, if we just would.

Spallalala 01-24-2006 07:16 PM

Yeah, its tragic. I totally agree.

You know what would be a great idea, if PR3SSUR3 and yourself
(Haunted) started your own "feed the world" thread, yknow, someplace ELSE. ;)
