Books you'd want to make into a movie

too many different folders this would fit in, so it goes in here

Ok, if you could make any book (or short story I guess) into a movie, what would it be?

Personally, I'd adapt The Colour Out of Space. Or maybe Illusions by Richard Bach. But mostly Colour Out of Space

Haunted 12-21-2005 01:11 PM

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Actually, anything by Terry Pratchett.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I'm not really a Koontz fan, but I loved that book. It so made me cry. Currently, I'm reading the sequel. It's pretty good so far.

Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Book

The rights have been bought by Warner Bros, however Id really like to see Cirque du Freak movie made sometime soon. They've had the rights for a few years, and no progress yet...

Great thread, Ill think of some more later

The STE 12-21-2005 03:01 PM

Oh, I can't believe I forgot this.
Since I want to make a horror movie eventually, ever since I read it I've always wanted to make a really, really, REALLY graphic, horrific, obscene, unpleasent movie adaptation of the book Teratologist by Edward Lee.

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

Haunted 12-21-2005 04:41 PM

Teratologist? I've never heard of that. Sounds interesting. Care to give a synopsis?

Tenet, love the av! Skary.

Haunted would be a great film adaptation too... except for the whole masturbation chapter.

It's about a crazy millionare 'teratologist' (someone who studies birth defects and genetic malformations) who wants to defy and anger God so much that he'll show his face and, I guess, personally smite him. It's a fucked up book. And it's short, it's barely over 100 pages.

Honestly made me wish I didn't know how to read, it was that gross... and you go into it thinking "No biggie, it's just a book. How nasty could it be?"

And then the whole candle wax part comes up...

nonono, I meant terrible as in BAD. Each of the three stories just got worse and worse.

Three stories? There's a bunch of stories in that book, like 10 or so.

'The Werewolf vs Vampire Woman" by Arthur N. Scarm, a.s.p.c.d.

Probably the craziest, most insane book I ever read in my life, and I would love to make a movie out of it, note for note.

"She jacknifed into the air, throwing up as she soared."

Great book.

Anything by Edward Lee would be sick on film I love that freak..Teratology, The Big Head etc.

How about Poisoning Eros by James Wrath White..

Or Excuisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite

They Thirst by Robert McCammon

Some more Irvine Welsh if handled properly.....

nut a lot of adaptions have stolen his gas.

alkytrio666 12-22-2005 08:18 AM

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger would make an academy awardd movie, honest to God. I can't believe this hasn't happened yet.

I'd like to see any of Poe's works turned into a new movie- any that haven't been made, at least.

Porno by Irvine Welsh
Sequel to trainspotting, but if they can't do it with the same actors & director they should'nt do it. Heard that wanker Ewan Macgregor was'nt interested he was far too busy fucking up the Star wars franchise.

I enjoyed "The Dark Elf Trilogy" by "R.A. Salvatore". I'd like to see this become a movie.

MisterSadistro 12-22-2005 05:00 PM

'My Pet Goat'. It would be faster for Bush to watch it in case of another 9/11 rather than wasting valuable time trying to read it

Did some research...Supposedly, after seeing My Foolish Heart [Based on one of his Uncle Wiggly storys], Salinger refused to sell the rights to anymore of his works. It's reported that this has also been included in his will, so we'll need to wait until around 2046, when the copyright runs out.

The STE 12-22-2005 06:15 PM

oddly enough, 2046 is also the year that Hong Kong's government goes back to Chinese control

The Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce.

Revelation.

Have you guys ever thought what a horror show it would be to do a four hour movie on the book of revelations? If any of you have ever read it, it can scare the crap right out of you. With todays effects,CGI, and all of that, it would be a blood bath. And from what I understand, if you belive this way, it will be.

she_died 12-24-2005 11:53 AM

well.....there was End of Days lol

cheebacheeba 12-24-2005 12:01 PM

Can we include comic books?
If so, a film, or series adaptation to the classic "watchmen" would be fucking brilliant...but they couldn't leave anything out...the storyline was a work of art, and if they fucked it up...whoah...they just couldn't. So yeah, if they did it RIGHT, that would be cool.

Also, the Artemis Fowl books would make for an interesting film series...perhaps somehow amalgamated into 2 films.

One thing that I think would out-do ANY fantasy series would be the various DragonLance series. I've only read a few, but for what they are, they're some of the best. This one would really have to be done with great attention to detail as well...

cheebacheeba 12-25-2005 01:23 PM

Oh, and "Dread Dominion" would've made a far better Judge Dredd movie. I doubt anyone here's read it though.

 HELL YES! Welcome to my cool book...not that it's important, but still...:D I would love to see the first three on film or in an anime type cartoon style.

But I ask you (and Creeper too), who out there, could do the voice or play the part of Raistlin Majere (who may or may not have been a favorite character to of yours, but Creeper and I just love 'im)?

Definitely better than those LOTR (I realize that's blasphemous, but blasphemy is my middle name) movies.

Holy shit, let's make a rule that Orlando Bloom is not alowd to star or even make a cameo in these.

Oh yeah, Sabersword, the book I suggested, Good Omens, is based on the Revelation/s. Only, it's really really funny. I've read Revelation/s several times... I thought it was kind of far fetched and silly, but I'm really cynical.:)

cheebacheeba 12-25-2005 04:24 PM

I'm not good on voice guessing, because a lot of the time, someone you'd never think about is casted to voice, and casted well. If they were to make a live production of it...Rasitlin...I can't think of any big-timers that would really suit the role, BUT, one guy I'd seen in a show came to mind.
Now, I haven't read MUCH dragonlance, but in the series I was reading, Raistlin was somehow sick and weakened throughout the thing, so bearing that in mind, I thought of this one guy...did you ever watch "24" series 1? I dunno the characters name, but towards the beggining when Kim and her friend are kidnapped by the two guys in the van?
The one guy that's kinda reluctant about it all, and ends up helping the girl escape. He looks kinda dark and a lil' miserable...I can see him working in the role. The actors name is Daniel Bess.
http://www.danielbess.net/
The pics on that site don't really show the qualities I'm talking about, but when he looked all junked up in 24, he looked as though he'd suit the part just fine.
