Remake hell
What's up with all the classics being remade lately? The Fog, Amityville Horror... There's a bunch more. Do remakes do anything to add to the originals?
|
No.
CK |
Nothing to add to the originals, but I think it might add to the number of Jaguars on the road, the frequency at which teenage boys get laid, the cover price of Fangoria and the number of names I need to forget.
|
How would it add anything to the original? The originals were done, in some cases, almost 30 years ago, they're done. They're RE-MAKING them, not altering them.
|
Eh, some remakes have been... alright. By and large, they pale in comparison to the original though. I wish that filmmakers would do something a little more challenging and creative, but that's the industry for you.
So... no, they don't really add anything to the original. A few are okay on their own merits, but for the most part they get a thumbs down. |

Actually with the Dawn of the Dead remake they added to it and changed it a bit and in my opinion changed the movie completely. It's a completely different movie and while not as good as the original it's not bad.
|
no, they made a different movie. The original Dawn of the Dead is still the same (except there's three versions of it)
|
i liked the re-make of Texas Chainsaw Massacre a lot more then the original, same with Amittyville Horror, i also really enjoyed The Fog, but i never saw the original.

Personally, the remake of Amityville Horror was seriously needed. No joke. If anything, the only thing I could possibly see people liking in the original was a feeling of nostalgia. It was utter shit, IMO. The remake was much better, and followed the original story much closer. The Amityville remake added so much to the original film, because it was following the book rather then "a remake of the 70's movie". I loved it.
Yeah, today is the time of remakes. The Fog, Amityville Horror, When a Stranger Calls, House of Wax, The Crazies, Dark Water, The Grudge, The Ring, Pulse, Dawn of the Dead, The Evil Dead, The Eye, The Fly, The Shining, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, The Hills Have Eyes. Personally, I think it's good. Updates a film, even though it may be worse, but opens it up to a newer audience. If someone is dissatisfied, go and see the original. Viewers of the remake might do the very same, or might have not even known it was a remake. Stop bitching about remakes, because it doesn't ruin the original = as it is not replaced. There is just a new version. Similiar to all those fables and fairy tales. How many versions of those are there? Start bitching about that :p |
I personally thought that the Amityville remake sucked ass.
How can You say that the remake added so much to the original film? The original is still the same, untouched, unadulterrated.:) |

....so we've concluded that remakes to not add to,nor detract from the originals.
everybody got that....it'll be on mondays test. |
There's too many remakes of things that were shit to begin with...outwith horror I've read they're remaking revenge of the nerds and miami vice...
|
Enough with the remakes already, unless they're gonna remake it with that 1970's/1980's classic, gritty atmoshere. I gotta admit, "Amityville" is probably one of the remakes I actually like though I perfer the original. "Dawn Of The Dead" could've been better, but the zombies running at full speed threw me off a bit and was way too dry for an unrated film. Decent acting, though but still kinda fell flat.
LOL@"Miami Vice/Revenge Of The Nerds" remake. Can't imagine how bad those are gonna be. :) |
there has not yet been a movie that i have seen in which the ramake has been better than the original.
|
Wizard of Oz and The Ten Commandments

So many remakes evidences a genuine lack of original thought from the last several generations - music is "covered", do overs of movies and, jeez, TV shows. And don't get me started on reality shows where they come up with a stupid theme and then watch people humiliate themselves - no script writing or plot necessary. I'll stop now because I have a ten page treatise on this subject ready to go...........................

We have to watch the path were going with this crap on remakes.
Nothing beats the classics. And the newer gen has no clue on the quality and the story. So some old black and white films were low in cost to make ,thats what made the film and there the granddaddys to what we see today on the screen. We as horror/sci-fi fans honour and treasure these films not like the brain fartys in hollywood.Yes they are running out of ideas and thats not good for us. |
