Anyone seen Umberto Lenzi's Nightmare City?
 

It's a great 1980 Underrated Sci-fi horror action thriller from the director of the notorious "Cannibal Ferox" Umberto Lenzi about a radioactive spill that turns an airplane full of passengers into ravenous, fast moving, radioactive, weapon weilding, bloodsucking, vampire-esque, sometimes cruddy faced mutant zombies that begin to infect a large city and cause destruction with a jouranlist and his wife to flee the city, they must stop these monsters by putting bullets in their brains.

This movie was the start of the fast moving zombie genre! it's got gore, nudity, exploding heads, a great music score and a twist in the end.

I highly recommend it! i also recommend it to anyone who enjoyed George A. Romero's zombie trilogy, 28 Days Later, Return of the Living Dead Trilogy, Lifeforce, Zombi 3, Dawn of the Dead ( 2004 remake), The Omega Man, and The Beyond.

Anyone thinks the 2004 Dawn of the Dead was inspired by this movie? same zombies that run.

there should be an award for the worst zombie makeup of all time .. burn pizza stuck here and there on peoples faces.

Edit: "CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD" was the other title, so yes, its the one i am thinking of. God, i hated it... sorry.

oh hell no, 2000 maniacs is a herchel gordon lewis film .. unless there is indeed a similar alternative name for the City one ..

and yes .. that was the dance show (more of a solid gold thing)

I never saw the whole movie, just a bit on a pretty good compilation called Terror on Tape. It looked like they had dried oatmeal on their faces.

yeah .. the really well made up ones got burnt pizza :)

knowing the "dedication" a lot of italian directors had, he probablyput the pizza on their faces and THEN burned it.

the make up wasnt bader than most zombie movies.....

Anyone thinks this movie was an inspiration to last year's Dawn of the Dead remake? the similar kind of zombies.

i'm willing to bet (that although 28 days later didnt feature zombies) that 28 days later was the inspiration for running zoms.

i cant see nightmare being an inspiration for anything other than laughs

28 Days Later, they run fast because they are all raving lunatics. They dont feel much, and all they want to do is kill. Pretty straight foward


Dawn of the Dead 2004. They made the zombies run.... Because the director wanted to be different, and he thought it was scary

its true .. fast zombies are scarier in one sense ... the 'boy am i fucked now' sense


slow zombies are terrifying but thats more atmospheric and heady really.

if they were just people you hated coming at you that slowly - and killing them was legal - hell you couldnt pay enough for that joy !

Its funny, the fast zombies changed the "what if" factor quite a bit. Hanging out with freinds, you could kind of bullshit about the advantages of zombies taking over the world, because in Romero's movies, only the really stupid people got hurt.

The fast ones are too intimidating. At least you could run by the slow ones, the fast ones are like pack predators....

You gotta admit, that diarrea/Oatmeal/Peanut-Butter faced zombies are good for a laugh? and this movie was THE source of all running zombies like we see today.

Dan O'Bannon just loves this movie and it's one of his faves, so it must have been an influence on his "Lifeforce" ( same kind of speedy zombies only without oatmeal faces) and "Return of the Living Dead". No " 28 Days Later" did not influence the new "Dawn of the Dead", it was this movie! the scripting for the remake came in early 2003 BEFORE 28 Days Later and the writer James O'Gunn and director Zack Sydner must have seen "Nightmare City" then got the idea for speedy zombies but without taco meat stuff on their face.

I liked the movie and thought it was pretty good. 4/5.
