The virtues of fast food.

It's almost lunch and i am hungry.

Anyone else like Fast food (ever notice that fast contains the same letters as fats?)

Not necesarrily for every meal, but everyone i know has a soft spot for at least 1 kind of fast food.

I am a conesseur. I appreciate the finer things in life (filet mingon, crepes, fine food), but give me a 7 layer burrito and some extra tasty crispy chicken any day. My favorites are as follows:

McDonalds:
Big mac (with ketchup)
Double Cheeseburger
Chicken McNuggets

Burger King:
Whopper with Cheese
Tender Crisp chicken sandwich

Taco Bell:
Soft taco
Soft Taco supreme
7 layer burrito
Beef burrito
Nachos bel grande
Nacho Cheese Beef Chalupa
Nacho Cheese Beef Gordita
All with Fire Sauce

Kentucy Fried Chicken:
All of it. Biscuits, gravy, chicken (regular or extra tasty crispy), mashed potatoes, cole slaw... the works...

Subway:
BLT sub with cheese.

Wendy's:
Junior cheeseburger deluxe
Junior Bacon Cheeseburger
Chicken Nuggets

I am truly a fast food carnivore....

Vodstok 03-08-2005 07:42 AM

Do you see why once i went from a physical job to a computer one i went from 198 to 220 in less than 6 months?

I'm 225 as of last weekend, but i am on pretty decent shape. i only eat fast food once a week or so. a HUGE chaneg from the past few years. When i was single, i was eating 1-3 meals a day from fast food restauraunts 3 -6 days a week and going through a 12 pack every 2 -3 days.

And the worst i ever got from all of this was a bit of a beer belly. I'm (very surprisingly) in decent shape.

Yeah, but how's your cholesterol?

BH14 03-08-2005 07:50 AM

Watch "Supersize Me".... It will make you think twice when ordering from McDonalds. Doctors said it was damaging this guy's liver from his McDonald diet. He wasnt terribly obese either. They use some weird chemicals in their french fries that supposedly make em stay fresher than normal french fries.

BH - how about the part where he's eating his burger and gets sick! And goes back to eating! Gross!

BH14 03-08-2005 07:57 AM

it actually made me stop eating McDonalds... Havent had it in like 2-3 months. I still enjoy "Checkers"... Seems to somewhat healthier.

Vodstok 03-08-2005 07:58 AM

Not sure about the cholesterol, but i imagine it is much better now than it was a couple of years ago. I need to get that checked.

Supersize me was interesting. But i have hard time taking what he said at face value.. His girlfreind was a vegan (in my book, that constitutes "psycho". sorry vegans), and a double quarter pounder made him throw up? Jesus christ, he couldnt have eaten more than a pound of beef in a year for that to happen...

Most of my meals these days are are extremely healthy. My wife prefers to have things as low-fat as possible, so i cook for her, and just modify things to make them a little tastier to me. I dont even use olive oil for most of the food i cook her.

But i love high fat salty food. Love it, love it lo0ve it.

i often get suckered into eating the fast food crap because of the big city lifestyle ... you end up spending all of your time commuting so if there is ant activity after work (kids skating lesson) we grab a bite on the fly.

i always end up feeling shitty after .. always ...

Vodstok 03-08-2005 08:17 AM

I have found that being away from it for a while causes one to get a bad case of the shits once you have it again.

kpropain 03-08-2005 08:22 AM

I try and avoid fast food alot also but alot of times it is just covenient...

I'm a sucker for BK though, and Arby's to, loved Jack In The Box's chili cheese fries but they quit selling them here ...

I love good old southern cooked homestyle food though, just can't beat it.

I love sushi also, which usually grosses people out lol

Damn I'm getting hungry talking about food, see yall in a bit.:D

BH14 03-08-2005 08:25 AM

Sushi is good for you, but it never fills me up. I love that though.... I also love Arby's but there arent any on long island anymore. I actually make it myself... onion roll, roast beef and velvetta cheese... mmmmm

urgeok 03-08-2005 08:30 AM

sushi and sushimi are fantastic ... cant be beat .. and yeah they are pretty healthy compared to everything else mentioned so far.

gotta love that wasabi ...

i remember getting it at one place that was 100 more potent than any i'd had before .. took a good helping of it before i realized ... had a coughing fit in the restaurant ..

beware the places where they mix it themselves :)

BH14 03-08-2005 08:33 AM

i cant eat wasabi... i tried but it didnt work... it looked harmless and i accidently put too much on. big mistake

newb 03-08-2005 08:35 AM

I never had sushi.
For fast food I'll usually get a nacho's bellgrande from Taco Bell. Big Macs are pretty good, but I really don't eat a lot of fast food.
Although a NY System hot weiner is great late at night after a few beers. Its a weiner with mustard covered in meat sauce and topped with lots of onions and garlic salt.

your wife hates you doesnt she :)

I do not eat very much bread or breading, so that rather limits my choices. I do like crunchy tacos at TB with Jalapenos. For me a big steak is the way to go...

Bread is my biggest downfall. I LOVE nice warm bread or rolls slathered in butter! Tacos are good, but leave off the jalapenos, please (not good for the reflux). Not big on red meat either. It's not the aesthetics, it's the taste. Prefer poultry or seafood.

Uh oh... you arent low carbing it are you?

I eat and drink whatever i want, the secret is moderation. i try to keep everything at a reasonable intake level. Granted, i splurge every once in a while (every month or so), but im mostly a good boy. i have my drinking more or less down to a 6 pack a week.

LOL!

I have discovered somehting.... Certain fasst food acts as a hangover cure for me. A 20 piece chicken mcnuggets, or pretty much any taco bell food makes me feel better if i am hung over.

ShankS 03-08-2005 09:04 AM

If I'm out with friends, I refuse to eat junk food these days. I'll rather cook at home before I go out or eat at a reasturant before I go to the pub.

I do have the occasional pizza or burger at home, but they're home made, so I know only quality healthy ingredients is going in.

Vodstok 03-08-2005 09:10 AM

Hey, i know the quality of the ingredients they use at ff places....

I had gastric bypass almost 3 years ago. A big lump of dough really causes problems. I can eat a piece of toast once in awhile.

Vodstok 03-08-2005 09:18 AM

oh damn.... sorry to hear that.

I had to ask. You always seemed to sensible to me to hop on the low-carb bandwagon.

movieman64 03-08-2005 09:24 AM

It's not that I wouldn't like to eat a Big Mac or Double Whopper. I sometimes get a Mac and scrape all the stuff off the buns and eat about half of it it that way. Not the same but still close. I also scrape the topping off of pizza and eat it without the crust, pepperoni and sausage are still pepperoni and sausage...

No, my darling, I'm talking about the real things. If I had a pic I would post it. Yummy snack cakes made right here in Philly.

ShankS 03-08-2005 11:38 AM

lol

ItsAlive75 03-08-2005 01:44 PM

Four McDonalds double cheeseburgers.... Four bucks.

Used to do that deal maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Got real sick of it.

Now I do 2 of those Hardee's Monster Thick burgers. Sooooooo good.

ShankS 03-08-2005 02:00 PM

the two Burgerkings I've visited, have both made me ill. The first time I had a wopper, I was off university for 4 days with servere shits and puking, the second time about 4 years later had the same bad effect on me...I was off work with food poisoning.... I feel I'll when ever I walk past one of those dives, that company has scared me for life.

newb 03-08-2005 02:45 PM

Here ya go Shanksie...........its on me.

I hate fast food, but yet I live off of it. This girl can not cook at all!

Anyways, I always get...
From Micky D's Big mac...Light sauce

BK..always get breakfast from there, bacon crossanwich

Taco Bell......Zesty chicken bowl, DD taco supreme, mexi melt, pretty much anything loaded with sour cream..I like that pizza hut they have in them now too

KFC...everything but the slaw. I never liked any kind

Subway..steak n cheese, BMT, or meddaterainian? chicken

Wendys....jr bacon cheese burger..baked potato

What about jack in the box? 99 cent menu kicks ass

anyway, I'm gonna slowly but surely learn to cook. Giving my first swing at a complicated recipe this weekend (thankies cheeb), I think I'll do alright. I just wanna get out of this habbit.

Vodstok 03-09-2005 04:44 AM

We dont have any Jack In the box around here, and i've never been to one in my many travels.

in New Orleans though, i loved Crystal Burger.... Fucking awesome at 2 in the mornming when you are hungry and drunker'n shit.

or is that the other one.....

Austin, clear this up for me. Ther eis a big ass 3 story burger joint on Bourbon street, and then there is a dive-through only burger joint way the hell off from there....

What are their names? I would swear Crystal was the one on bourbon....

damn my hazy drunken memory....
