Dog Soldiers
I love this movie so much. I bet someone has already posted a thread or 2 about this subject, but i dont care.
To anyone who hasnt seen it, then go see it!!! btw, is there anyone out there who DISLIKES this movie??? |
i saw a lot of people rave about it on here so i rented it... i should get it by tomorrow from netflix.
|
Oh god, you'll love it. Very gory, very funny, and very good plot. very original.
|
I was gonna buy this, its only 10 buxx.
|
it is quite possibly my favorite horror movie, I love the dark British humor. I give it my highest recommendation for those who have yet to see it...Go buy it Now!
Also, does anyone know of any movies like it? I would love to see more of its kind. thank you in advance:D |
It's actually scottish humor. but ya, excellent film
I don't think that there are any like it. It was so original. |
i thought it was good - better than i suspected because i picket it up without knowing a thing about it.
(i was worried it was going to be about killer dogs - from the title and we all know how wonderful they are. As i have said on the other 3 or 4 posts on the same subject - the one thing that did bother me ... maybe unfairly - was near the end when the one survivor is holding the bathroom door closed - barely - with his leg - while trying to get through the wall to his friend. there is no goofy explaination for the ability of a guy holding the door closed on a superhuman monster with a small portion of his weight - other than to 'make it work' for the scene - it was an 'eye roller' for me. even i cant suspend my disbelief that far :) other than that i enjoyed it.. |
I liked this movie a lot because it was a good spin on the Aliens/Predator ect, ect kind of movie. But I think as far as werewolf movies go Ginger Snaps takes the prize for originality and a fresh perspective on the genre.
|
I too enjoyed this movie... Just saw it last night and it felt like it was Predator at times and then Aliens at other times... I enjoyed it more than the Howling and many other horror movies. And I like the twists at end. I give it a 8/10!
|
I liked Dog Solidiers. It had solid acting and great caharcters.
My only beef with it is that the monsters didn't have to be werewolves. They could have been vampires or aliens or widgets or whatever. Plus the last half of the movie does turn into a weird Aliens rip-off. But along with Ginger Snaps, it's easily one of the best werewolf movies to come out in recent years. |
Actually, the portions of the plot dealing with Ryan and sgt Wells they absolutely HAD to be Werewolves. I suppose werebadgers or wereguinea pigs may have worked, but some sort of lycanthropic creature was necesarry to the plot.
That being said, i love Dog Soldiers. Absolutely one of my favorite horror movies. |
Good W-Wolf movie.
|
My favorite werewolf movie, surpasses The Howling for me. Excited to see what DS2: Fresh Meat will be like, afraid though that it'll turn into an American horror movie rather than an English one. American horror movies are a fucking joke anymore...
|
I want to see this movie badly, but I don't want to rent it. I always buy my movies, and even though I have seen it for rent, I can't seem to find it for sale in a store yet. I will expand my search a bit more, sounds good.

Check your local Walgreen's believe it or not, I've seen it there for cheap. It's always worth a good look there, you'd be surprised at some of the gems that can be found there if you're lucky. I've found Romper Stomper there (not horror but violent :) ) and Horror Express along with several old Hammer movies in those compilation packs for like $5.99 for 3 movies.

Whats the gore like in this movie.

cooper breaks the sink, takes the faucet, and hacks through the plaster in the wall to get to sgt wells. once he has the hole big enough, a werewolf breaks the door and sticks it's head in, whereupon cooper sticks it in the head with the faucet. He then crawls under sarges legs (who is still on the toilet holding the door with his feet) and begins hacking at THAT wall with a knife. Sounds like you got the scene a little mixed up. It isnt nearly as silly as you thought :) |
I own a copy so I'm gonna watch it again some time today. I remember first seeing it on the Sci Fi channel, and then it was released at Ballbuster, I mean Blockbuster a few weeks later as a New Release.

these things rip cars apart .. they cant knock down a bolted bathroom door ? i could do that ! :) |
During the commentary there were quite a few comments that one producer would make about plausibility and the other would say "yeah, yeah, its a fantasy movie..." :)
And they used the jaws of life to tear up the car. it was in the background in 3 shots. I bet you missed thew werewolves when they were wearing hard hats, too, no doubt :) |

like i said .. it happens all the time .. little things that dont make sense (even in the context of the film) but are used to serve the action/moment along. I guess it stood out for me because for the most part the rest of the film avoided moments like that whereas most american horror films in the last 20 years are rife with them. |
The part that always bugged me was Megan. The character. I could never figure out why she would help them, then suddenly turn on them at the end. the twist never sat right with me.
The producers explained the backstory better than the movie did. Apparently Ryan SENT her to scope the area out, and she got infected. She wanted to leave, but at the last moment, realized that she wouldnt, and turned on them (basically gave in to being a werewolf, grudgingly accepting fate) For once, the commentary actually improved a movie for me, as opposed to just giving me cool insights (it did that in spades though) Neat shit i leanred from the commentary: The actor who played Joe played a Nazi in band of brothers because he speaks fluent german. He was complemented personally on the quality of his performance, and was mortified to find out the guy who praised him was Steven Speilberg, and he hadnt realized he was talking to him. Cooper was originally cast to be played by Jason Statham (Snatch, The Transporter), but he chose to be in Ghosts of Mars instead. Ryan was originally going to be Bruce Payne. Thank GOD they didnt go with him.... The rifle that Spoon picks up, and is eventually used by Terry jammed constantly in real life, which is why teryy would fire a shot, then have to unjam it, and shoot again :) |
I finally found it! I bought it for $10 at Family Video. I plan on watching it tonight.
|
Get a cold beverage and some snacks. you will need them as you will probably be rooted in place through the whole thing.
Enjoy it :) |
I bought this last night and watched it. What an excellent movie! I can't believe that I waited so long to see this. Definately one to watch over and over. I see that they are in the process of making a Dog Soldiers 2 due out this year (IMDB). It is already on my list.:D

It depends on the movie. Good films like Dog Soldiers, I watch again the next day or so. Others like Soul Survivors, every couple of months. |
