Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers

I thought this movie was great but a lot of people seem to disagree. I was flipping thru some old Fangorias that come out when this did and the letters section and editorials all pan this movie. I saw it again a couple of nights ago and I think it is one of the stronger entries in the series. It has plenty of gruesome murders and a few scares and I really dig the dark tone of the movie. It has a lot more to offer than Ressurection or H20. But yeh all in all I think this movie has a bad rep it doesn't really deserve.

Halloween 5

I'm gonna have to check it out again because it's been a few years since I saw it. After so many sequels the mind tends to blur one into another especially with all the intake of beer. However, I don't recall any of the Halloween movies being that bad until I recently saw Halloween Resurrection which I thought was atrocious and an insult to the legacy of John Carpenter's horror masterpiece. Michael Myers is supposed to be a horror icon but in this film he just shuffles about like a parody of himself. There are no original murder scenes, no jump out of your seat moments and the effects are terrible.

Re: Halloween 5

Better than number 5...
I think number 6 is ok...but it sems a little cheap and the acting is poor..especially that family to the main character...her father and mother dont have acting talent....(maybe its irony...:o ) but I dont like irony....
And the hole "man in black" thing is just uncool...I know its a link from number 5 but that picture sucked....Michael Myers is cool enough anyway...
..and the ending seems unfinished...I know.. Donald died...:)

I really liked the opening of Ressurection and it has a couple of good moments but yeh it really is a lousy movie especially once Busta Ryhmes turns up in the movie.

Better than 5, which was ruined by the silly bland slapstick scenes with those two cops (influenced by The Last House on the Left perhaps?) - they actually inserted zany Laurel & Hardy style honking/farting sound effects (to indicate that they are "bumbling", you see?) if I remember right.

Of course, none of the Halloween sequels can top the straight-as-a-die number 4 which didn't mess about at all - even when the town's cops were called in early on in the film, they still couldn't get near Myers until the end. This one aped Carpenter's original style in scenes sometimes revealing nothing where there should be something, and something long after there should be nothing.

Halloween squels get a bad rap.Besides the new ones, I don't think they're bad at all

If you think about how shitty the Jason movies or the Nightmare movies are.

Sedated_replica 03-05-2005 12:57 AM

Oh you're right!

Nightmare of elm street part 3 was a fucking master piece..... of shit...

Creighton Duke 03-05-2005 05:23 AM

What and oscar for best film 1989 went to Halloween 5, did it bollocks.
My point is you have to take the rough with the smooth in movie sequels and not call them all shit.

Yeh I agree with this Halloween has been a pretty solid series apart from Resurrection. Friday the 13th has had some totally shit entires Jason X, Jason Takes Manhattan. I like most of the Elm St movies but parts 4, 5 and Freddy's Dead are fucking weak. I really dug Wes Craven's New Nightmare tho it was a really fucking solid entry to the series.

.......and it didn't spawn shitty TV series either. Well yet anyway. I heard they were making a Hellraiser TV series which seems like a real shitty idea.
